British Columbia — we're back! We're bringing the Hope and Respect Tour back to BC this week.
First up is Nanaimo, then Saanich-Gulf Islands, Vancouver and Sea to Sky Country.
Hope to see you on the tour!

Whether he heard one media report or not, a responsible leader wouldn’t speculate while the incident was still unfolding. And the petulant tone is beyond juvenile.
If this is the tone for the next two years, I'm not sure Canadians will decide this is what they want for national leadership. Not sure they will want to experience this for a decade. Real countries with real self confidence don't choose to endure terminally petulant scolding.
If this diabetes support comes to pass, it will be a huge relief for people that have to pay dearly to stay alive, or to keep their loved ones alive. It is that urgent and very overdue.
I have not taken an airplane for vacation in over 13 years. I drive a hybrid electric. I have lobbied parliament to get a change in our schedule so that MPs would not have so much air travel required for work. I am vegetarian. I know I could do more. Working on it.

Thanks so much everyone for your generous comments about the demise of

. I've learned much from bright lights,
@vmochama
and
@MOHAWKEMOTIONS
and
@JohnIbbitson
has also frequently inspired wonder! Thanks for watching and for the feedback, all of it! I'll miss you all.
CBC story was perfectly normal, straight up, mildly interesting. If Baird doesn't want to be reported as praising Trudeau, he shouldn't praise Trudeau.
Like you, I've followed the show for a few decades and I don't remember it ever being so detached from reality, the pursuit of truth and basic respect for one another.
Who do the Conservatives think is listening to this repetitive and no-longer-relevant daily QP hectoring on Trudeau's trip TWO CHRISTMASES AGO. It was wrong. Its over.
I wonder if they are a little, tiny, bit worried about Charest. Harper doesn't want to lose the hard-right, western-based Conservative party he created. Why would he emerge now after many years silence?
The larger point is that India's tariff policy has nothing to do with retaliating against Canada _ any more than Trump's steel move does _ and everything to do with domestic politics.
I did. She mentioned pulses _ India also jacked up tariffs on chickpeas, EXCEPT for Canada, where 95 per cent of chickpeas enter the country at low or no tariff.
Harper is still slicing and dicing, still dividing groups of people (based on where they live and what recreations they favour) into good and evil. Such a limiting way of looking at life.
Maybe if you are prime minister it is easy. For those of us living 20 minutes from Parliament, in Quebec, not so easy. Pharmacies have run out, doctors only serving over 75 year olds.
With Danielle Smith and other premiers balking at federal coverage for insulin meds, in particular, you wonder how it is they don't know anyone who can't afford life-saving drugs? Who could benefit from more help? Do they never get out of their privileged bubbles?
Danielle Smith is deliberately misleading Albertans about the national pharmacare program. She claims about 75 percent of people have drug coverage but neglects to note people must pay for that coverage through copays and premiums.
For diabetes patients, the costs of medication…
I wonder if anyone believes these Conservative promises of "more money in your pockets." I guess it happens, but does anyone notice? Wouldn't people rather have services than a little extra cash?
Today is the third anniversary of my father's death in a long-term care home.
@PattyHajdu
just said what I thought then, and now: We need to value the work done in those homes a LOT more. Points out that we pay people more to care for vehicles than human beings.

This format is really terrible. It would be much better to have moderated encounters between two leaders at a time. Individual interviews are also more useful for voters.
Ontario families cannot afford this federal carbon tax. And Bonnie Crombie hasn’t said a word.
This morning, I joined Premier
@fordnation
and our PC team to urge the federal government to scrap the carbon tax.
Our government is continuing to keep costs down for families,…
Everyone who doesn't have a subscription to the National Observer should get one for Christmas, because they do excellent environmental reporting and commentary. And other news, too.
I have to think the mauling Wernick took from opposition MPs today will make his job more difficult. Striking that he got tougher going over than Butts, a political operative.
So important to have journalists in a place far from main media centres to record abuses, violations of law, especially. Otherwise, it’s too easy to ignore.
There is a legitimate affordability crisis that we ought to take seriously. But blaming that affordability crisis on the carbon price is wrong and deeply cynical.
Watch the Oppo leader blaming PM
@JustinTrudeau
for the strike at the Vancouver port. It's to a point where if a dog has diarrhea anywhere in Canada,
#Poilievre
will blame the PM.
Here’s a shot of me and the guys last night.
We’ve got much more work to do.
We’re continuing important discussions today in New Brunswick.

Putting a moral equivalence between Trump’s protectionism and bullying unilateralism and Mr Trudeau’s defence of a reasoned multilateral approach is reprehensible.
I did. She mentioned pulses _ India also jacked up tariffs on chickpeas, EXCEPT for Canada, where 95 per cent of chickpeas enter the country at low or no tariff.
Patrick Brown is drowning in scandal.
He had to lie to cover up his poor membership sales.
He has lost three of his four caucus supporters—including his national campaign chair.
He is in free fall.
Here's some perspective:
-1 person in Canada has tested positive for
#nCoV2019
, is in isolation & officials are tracing those potentially exposed.
-560 kids 16 & under have been hospitalized for the flu this season in Canada. Of those, 78 have landed in ICU. At least 1 died.
Yes, but I partly walked back my first brash claim about amnesty one week after legalization. After this, I will try to stick with my brash claims and wait it out!
This is petty and personal on Trump's part, but still dire. It will have implications in Canada, too. Like women's rights, environmental gains can be rolled back. So, a warning, I guess.
Can’t thank Haida Nation leadership enough for the beautiful visit of only a small portion of their beautiful territory.
Je ne peux pas assez remercier le leadership de la Nation Haida pour une si belle visite de leur territoire.

Clarification: He didn’t call everyone who disagrees with him racist and misogynist. He was talking about the agressive protestors who showed during the campaign when he said these protestors are people who don’t believe in science who are often misogynistic, often racist as well
So Pierre Poilievre, in a truly scummy moment, blamed a CTV report for his assessment of the Rainbow Bridge as a terrorist attack in the House of Commons yesterday. The first CTV report doesn't seem to have landed before Poilievre spoke, but the Fox News report had.
My sense is both former cabinet ministers are acting on principle _ and not lightly _ and this is so unusual in Ottawa that people are searching for other motives. Others are so opposed to
@AndrewScheer
(for good reason) they are embracing
@JustinTrudeau
's story.
I love Alberta. It has the most stunning natural beauty and the generous, resilient people. But, as a journalist, my job is to challenge exaggerated claims, from wherever.
@Cicvaric2
@susan_p_riley
I certainly would not. Canada has made extraordinary efforts to keep Quebec in confederation. Susan Riley in this instance, it's pouring gas on the Alberta separatist fire.
Outrageous that Georges Laraque, former NHL player who survived Corvid, could not get tested, despite worsening symptoms. He's not the only one in Quebec, where tests are hard to get.
But the most extraordinay speech came from my
@ISGSenate
colleague, Mary Jane McCallum, a residential school survivor, who was taken from her family at the age of 5. This is very hard to hear. Which is why you should hear it.

Some 44 people are said to have died in the 2003 SARS outbreak, 56 have died so far of the new flu. In an average year about 3,500 Canadians die of seasonal flu.
COLUMN: Alberta's predictable freakout at the emissions cap is a tell about its own climate ambitions -- and another demonstration that Danielle Smith doesn't understand where the real threats to the oil and gas industry are coming from.

Not sure there is any solid evidence _ i.e. a signed contract _ suggesting the oil will go to China. Most will be headed to U.S.refineries on the Gulf Coast where refining capacity exists. So much for the main rationale for the pipeline.
It’s official - we’re in the bitumen pipeline business now. The Canadian people’s own gov’t is using our own $ to ship our own resources raw to China.
If gets it built (big if) Trudeau wipes out 85% of the GHG reductions he promised the world at Paris.
Liberals,Conservatives and NDP all confirm they are topping up wages of employees being paid through wage subsidy program (i.e. paying remaining 25%) - more on this story from

I totally agree. It is arrogant and dismissive to refuse to follow guidelines intended for everyone. Trudeau's family could have stayed at Rideau Cottage and Scheer's in Regina.
@EvanLSolomon
Everyone is in tough circumstances and we don’t get a pass. A family was ticketed 800$ for letting their kids play hockey in an empty parking lot. The PM and Scheer should lead by example not bend the rules.
