A tiny handful of far-right European politicians criticized Justin Trudeau last week. The rest of the 705 member parliamentary body gave his speech a standing ovation. Guess which one the media chose to focus on?
#cdnpoli
OMG -- after Biden says "both of us have cabinets that are both 50 percent women for the first time in history," he seems to address some Canadian men who weren't applauding and says, "even if you don't agree, guys, I'd stand up."
It feels like Canada is splintering into two tribes - the intolerant, authoritarian woke lunatics on the left and the spittle-flecked, hateful lunatics on the far-right. Where are the voices of compassion and common-sense? The silent majority needs to speak up.
Danielle Smith: the Charter has been suspended over the last two years.
Constitutional experts: uh, nope.
Buckle up, Alberta. It's not getting less bonkers any time soon.
Seriously, does Jason Kenney not understand that we export the overwhelming majority of our oil and gas to the United States? Picking a trade war with them over a pipeline when they're basically our only customer is just remarkably, almost impossibly daft.
The NDP has been in power for six years now in BC. Can any conservatives explain why it has a better credit rating than provinces run by Doug Ford, Scott Moe, and Danielle Smith?
Fun fact: under Brian Mulroney's PCs in the 1980s the capital gains inclusion rate was hiked from 50% to 75% -- and the overall combined corporate rate was in the low-40s versus the current rate of 26.5%.
And yet, businesses were formed. They took risks. Imagine that.
So much for "JustinFlation". A new report from Scotiabank says that 85% of our inflation is from "global or foreign forces" and supply challenges.
"Government transfers account for around 0.45 percentage points of the rise in inflation we have observed since the end of 2019."
Pierre Poilievre wants to destroy the CBC, and he's not shy about taking a swipe at the Canadian Press as well. Why? Because as recent polling shows, the less informed Canadians are, the more likely they are to support his party.

Itβs beyond the pale.
Trudeauβs tyranny against peaceful trucker protesters seems insignificant to this despicable and outrageous act of honoring of one of ADOLF HITLERβS NAZI SS Soldiers by the Canadian Parliament.
No wordsβ¦
I absolutely love it when Alberta Conservatives try to play the Norway card. Shall we talk about Norway's 79% tax on oil extraction? Its 25% economy-wide sales tax?
Oh, right -- you just want to talk about equalization. Funny, that.
New polling shows that a majority of Canadians think their country is "broken". Maybe it's time for us to start focusing on the governments that are actually doing the breaking.
#cdnpoli
For the bazillionth time, governments aren't like households.
And if the government had "lived within its means" during the pandemic, the economy would have cratered (and destroyed the finances of millions of households).
The Canadian trucking industry wants no part of the protests and is telling drivers to get vaccinated.
Iβm sure conservative politicians will amplify this message, right?

Help me understand something. Canada has the lowest debt-to-GDP ratio among G7 countries and the second highest projected economic growth (just 0.1 % behind Japan).
So why are so many people convinced our country's economy is being run into the ground?
A few quick thoughts about the thinking behind an Alberta Pension Plan, and why I find it so distasteful.
At its heart, it's not about getting more for Albertans or righting some historic wrong. It's about undermining their sense of connection with -- and to -- Canada.
Never forget: victimhood is at the core of the modern conservative identity.
People who chose not to get vaccinated faced consequences, not discrimination.
"They're the most discriminated against group that I've ever witnessed in my lifetime."
Danielle Smith says unvaccinated people have suffered greater discrimination than those based on race, gender, sexuality and other.

Pierre Poilievre loves to talk about how the country is "broken". So why isn't he calling out the Conservative premiers who are actively and deliberately breaking it?
#cdnpoli
I don't quite get how the US is only allowed to send one president but Canada is allowed to send five prime ministers and a vast extended cast of other various hangers-on.
For those in the back of the class: yes, of course wildfires can be started by individuals (cigarette butts, improper campfire management, and yes, even arson).
The problem is that climate change is making it *way* easier for those fires to spread rapidly.
Clear?
Since the premier referenced Norway in her remarks last night, it's worth reminding people how Norway did that:
*Public ownership of upstream oil and gas production
*Massive wellhead taxes (78%)
*A 25% economy-wide sales tax
Just saying,

The 1% keep getting richer, and the rest of us are struggling with housing, healthcare, and a bunch of othe priorities.
A wealth tax could raise $50 billion a year. It's time, Canada.

Going through some of my dad's old notes and found this gem:
"The human capacity for justice may have made democracy possible, but it is the individual inclination we have to be cruel, stupid and prejudiced that makes democracy mandatory."
Relevant today, I think.
Conservatives seem determined to downplay the allegations about India's involvement in the murder of a Canadian citizen. Is it because they're worried people will learn about Modi's friendship with their real boss, Stephen Harper?

Inflation for the 12 months leading up to the convoy was 3.4%, and the Bank of Canada policy rate wasβ¦0.25%. The hikes didnβt start until March.
"This was an emergency that Justin Trudeau created by attacking his own population, by driving up their cost of living, by making it impossible for people to pay their bills, and live their lives in peace," says Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre as he comments on

This is, as they say, a tell. Poilievre consistently chooses to attack the Canadian Press, the CBC, and other professional media outlets while boosting Rebel Media.
He's not interested in freedom of the press. He wants freedom from it.

Pierre Poilievre's reaction to a local reporter has gone viral in the right-wing online bubble.
But make no mistake: his reflexive petulance, fondness for one-dimensional solutions and populist sloganeering are inescapably Trumpist.
#cdnpoli
Friendly tip for reporters asking Poilievre and Smith about the green shirt guy (or the next green shirt guy -- because there will definitely be one): ask them to explain *why* they don't agree with it.
Ask them to explain why "straight pride" is problematic. Be persistent.

Come to Alberta, where the guy pulling the Premierβs strings mocks higher education and credentials given to doctors, lawyers, and engineers because he doesnβt have any himself.
The war on expertise has a lot of collateral damage, folks.
Hereβs the Trudeau interaction with an anti-vax protestor at the Ukrainian vigil in Toronto. He really snapped back at the individual who was shouting at him for stealing freedoms.
The decision to implement things like vaccine mandates has been criticized repeatedly for being "divisive".
Also divisive at their time: same-sex marriage, the flag, the Charter, and voting rights for women.
See the pattern here?

Pierre Poilievre met today with the Frontier Centre for Public Policy -- the same organization that *just* put out a paper saying "anti-white male policies" are "the only systemic discrimination there is."
I wonder why he's polling so poorly with women.
This will continue to cause major traffic, noise and safety issues in the downtown core. We urge all residents to avoid travel to the core. Police have avoided ticketing and towing vehicle so as not to instigate confrontations with demonstrators.
What would be the response if Trudeau was taking selfies next to βFuck Pierreβ flags, cause Pierre is doing exactly that here. Dude even went in to hang out with convoy folks with a Diagolon flag on their trailer.
Just so Iβm clear: Tucker Carlson and Danielle Smith are free to say all sorts of incendiary things, but Liberals exercising their own right to free expression is the problem?
Canadians have had enough of the Liberal-NDP costly coalition!
The cost of groceries, fuel, & homes has skyrocketed. After 8 years of Trudeau, what isn't unaffordable?
It's no wonder over 1500 people joined

If youβre a convoy enthusiast and you arenβt speaking out against Doug Fordβs pre-emptive strike against the rights of teachers, youβre confessing that you were never interested in standing up for other peopleβs rights β just your own.

Fun fact: Banff and Jasper do not, in fact, "subsidize" the rest of the country. Their user fees only cover approximately 25% of their operating costs. The rest? Covered by the federal government.
@maxfawcett
@miket136
Iβd like to see both Banff and Jasper transferred to Alberta.
As the number one and two most visited national parks itβs another way Alberta subsidizes the rest of the country.
