O’s fans – I’m a storyteller. And never want to be a part of the story. The most compelling story in baseball right now is the story of the league-leading Baltimore Orioles – the best, most exciting young team in the American League.
Spot starter only stretched out to 5.
Short bullpen.
Opposing starter goes 9 shutout.
Sellout crowd in a frenzy.
The majors’ longest win streak at home.
You just don’t win that game. Not unless you’re a special team.
Believe it, folks. These
@Orioles
are as special as it gets.
I wake up today feeling grateful.
Grateful for every night we had a chance to watch this Orioles team together. For every Felix strikeout, every Adley hug, every Gunnar...everything. Grateful I could reasonably say "that's the best win of the year" about 30 times.
The
@Orioles
hung back in the dugout after the second inning so Cedric Mullins could take the field by himself after joining the 30/30 club.
A goosebumps moment.

Thanks for the shoutout. Can’t wait to hear the new album. Friday. Please know you are welcome on the Orioles’ broadcast. Always.
Sincerely,
The Sports Announcer
Five years with this team and I’ve never enjoyed a series as much as this one - and, judging by the sounds from the third-base stands, I don’t think I’m the only one.
What a team. See you in Philly.
Well, that was a dream day.
Thanks to the best broadcast partners in baseball, the best fans in baseball and a team that sure looked like the best in baseball today. And what a joy of a second inning with
@DM_Rubenstein
.
Let’s do it 161 more times (and then some), shall we?
A reminder that are two sides to every transaction. Tony Kemp couldn’t have been classier in his two weeks with the
@Orioles
, and he couldn’t be classier here. Hope to see him again soon.
In the fall of 2010, our college had a series against the Longhorns for a 3 game set. Our hitting coach at the time was Josh Holliday and his brother, Matt, brought his kid to our early practice. I remember watching his son
@J_Holliday7
with a sweet lefty swing. Go get em’ kid!
I ask that everyone disregard the distracting noise of the past few days. I have worked closely with O’s SVP Greg Bader for the past four years, and John Angelos and I have a solid dialogue based on mutual respect. We are all good here in Birdland!
These
@orioles
are hilariously, ridiculously, insanely, phenomenally fun.
But also…our
@masnOrioles
crew crushed it tonight. Discovered this shot, stuck with it, found a bunch of amazing looks after.
Everything is awesome.
Unfortunately, recent media reports have mischaracterized my relationship with my adopted hometown Orioles. The fact is that I have a wonderful relationship with the organization, and our ownership and front office has fully supported me since 2019 when I first came aboard.
No Adley Rutschman, no Cedric Mullins and no Ryan Mountcastle…and the
@Orioles
just put up an 11-spot for a sweep. Not a bad Sunday.
Also: ‘twas an absolute pleasure to have Brian Roberts, a fantastic broadcaster and person, with us in the booth this weekend.
Another year of ramp racing, razzing and ridiculous recall is nearly upon us…
Thrilled to be back for year six (what! How’d that happen?!) with our fantastic crew.
I can’t promise much, but I can promise this…there will be more singing.
These
@orioles
are relentlessly entertaining. Might be the most fun I’ve ever had covering a team. And we’re only halfway done!
Thanks to everyone who’s been on the ride with us so far. Can’t wait to see what the second half brings.
Hey,
@realbenmcdonald
- haven't seen you in a couple of days.
What are you up to? Want to call a battle for first place in the American League tonight?
Finished “Good Omens” today (I know, what took me so long?) from the brilliant
@neilhimself
and
@terryandrob
. One of the funniest novels I’ve ever read.
Those of you who’ve seen the Amazon show: is it worth watching?
ABBA’s “Dancing Queen” is currently playing. I’m singing. Actual conversation follows:
@realbenmcdonald
: “You sound just like them.”
Me: “this is also blink-182.”
Ben: “Really?!”
A beat.
Ben: “Wait, I don’t think so.”
In the past month, Ben, Jim and I have hung out on air with:
- A Baseball Hall of Famer
- A Pro Football Hall of Famer
- A Rock and Roll Hall of Famer
MLB's hottest club is the
@Orioles
' TV booth.
These are just some of the faces of our
@masnOrioles
crew. They make every day at the ballpark a great day. They make us all better. I wouldn’t want to spend a baseball season with any other group. Onto the playoffs…
(P.S. I started this before Geoff posted the same picture.)
Adley Rutschman hit .234 as a college freshman and .164 in the Cape Cod League after.
Austin Hays fought through ankle, rib, hamstring & wrist trouble for 5 years.
Felix Bautista spent his first six years in rookie ball.
Yennier Cano had an 11.50 ERA in the majors last season.
Thanks for all the get well wishes. And to O’s medical staff and Johns Hopkins docs and nurses. Life savers.Covid is the real deal. Go O’s.
@masnOrioles
Orioles fans…
Thank you for hopping on this extraordinary ride with us at MASN this season. Your joy, passion, enthusiasm and kindness helped make it the most unforgettable season of my broadcasting life. Can’t wait for what’s next.
As a thank you, here’s Shep in a floppy hat.
One final Camden Yards sun-shining photo for 2020. That scoreboard sure looks nice.
This has been a strange and unsettling year, but I've been happy to share so much of it with you, O's fans. Can't wait to see you all back here soon. Stay safe.
Tonight's my last
@Orioles
TV game of the season. I'll leave you with some free advice - if you get a chance to work with
@Jim22Palmer
or
@realbenmcdonald
, take it.
And thanks to our exceptional crew at
@masnOrioles
for everything this season.
See you at 7:05 for O's/Phillies.
13 years ago, I made my minor league debut in Buffalo, New York. That first day was a real blur. But the Bisons announcer was awfully kind to me then...and we’ve been fast friends ever since.
It’s great to share a press box with you again,
@benwag247
. You’ll look good in orange.
Heartbroken, devastated, lost for words after the Key Bridge collapse. It's simply incomprehensible.
Thinking of all the workers, first responders and families impacted by this tragedy.
Adley Rutschman update:
- 8 straight games on base.
- .345 / 1.027 OPS, 6 XBH in those 8 games.
- 97th% Arm strength (85.2 mph), 80th% Pop Time on yesterday's caught stealing.
- Yesterday: the game's only RBI and 2 of the
@Orioles
' 5 hits.
the Orioles are the 1st team to win a game allowing 23+ hits since the Mariners on 9/3/81…ALSO at Fenway, in 20 innings
1st to do so in a 9-inning game since the Cardinals on 6/3/1930 (!!) in Philly
John Means' no-no.
Cedric Mullins, All-Star.
Trey Mancini, cancer survivor/HR Derby masher.
Adley and Grayson and DL and co.
Fans back at Camden Yards.
Even in a tough "first half", but there's still so much to celebrate, O's fans. Let's close it out in style.
Last 3-man booth of the year.
Last TV game for
@realbenmcdonald
this year.
Last time I feel this short for a long time.
7:05 on MASN. Let’s have some fun.
Last
@Orioles
broadcast of 2021 is in the books for me.
Was a genuine pleasure to meet some more of you this year - and to see so many of you in the stands after 2020. I’ll remember that as much as anything from this past year.
Let’s do it again some time, shall we?
Yesterday was the
@Orioles
' first game without a strikeout since August 8, 2010...
...and they did so in a game started by Major League Baseball's all-time strikeout/9 leader.
(Once again... baseball!)
Didn’t take any pictures today. Too thrilling, too energizing, too much fun to grab my phone. Whatever. I’ll never forget this Opening Day. These
@Orioles
are really something.
Thanks for taking the ride with us.
Outside of Opening Day, I’ve never experienced an
@Orioles
crowd like yesterday. Thanks to everyone who hung out or said hi on the roof top deck or in the Bird Bath. We had a blast despite the final score. Hope you all did, too.
And, hey - a 48-33 first half? Not too shabby.
There are 186 days until April 1, 2021, when the
@Orioles
kick off next season in Boston.
Until then, O’s fans - thanks for joining us on the strangest ride of a baseball season we’ll ever have. It’s been a delight to share it with all of you.
I believe I am now legally required to say "Some News".
So. Ahem. Some news!
I am honored and humbled and whatever other h-words you can think of (hobnobbed?) to step into the
@Orioles
' lead TV job this season. And I genuinely cannot wait to get started.
The epitome of "great player, better person",
@TreyMancini
is as first-rate a human being as you'll meet inside - or outside - a baseball clubhouse.
(I'd also like to personally thank him for making my voice crack on air on several occasions.)
Thanks for everything, Trey.
The O’s fans here at Wrigley were awesome tonight. Pregame, in-game, postgame.
What a special environment that was. What a special ride this is.
Anyone up for 10 tomorrow?
It’s real.
It’s spectacular.
It’s Opening Day for an
@Orioles
season oozing with potential.
I truly, truly cannot wait to share it with you all. Let’s go.
I will volunteer this clip to broadcasting schools as an example of what *not* to do. Just like Papa Bear of the Berenstain Bears. Oh well. What a stupefying slide. I love this team.
@BrettHollander
@Jim22Palmer
great seeing you guys on the game yesterday! My son was beside himself when he realized a sportscaster could get paid to hang out with a hall of fame legend. I’ll work on helping him remember Brett’s name for next game 😀
Part of our job in broadcasting is to provide joy and entertainment. Well, let me tell you...that will never be easier than 2023.
Thank you all for letting Jim, Ben, the rest of our crew and me into your houses all year as we shared in that joy together.
And...see you in March.
