THE WHITE HOUSE: 100 million people, about ⅓ of everyone in the US, will most likely get COVID this coming fall and winter.
ALSO THE WHITE HOUSE: Got spare COVID money? Why not give it to the cops?!
I've seen a lot of this sort of mask wearing in the selfie trend.
Does the bridge of your nose have a corner? NO!
When you leave that crease in, you're leaving a gap that COVID can enter! See it in the profile?
But it's the shape, right? What can you do?
Here's an easy fix.🧵
Today's a great day to remember that, if you need a doctor's note to wear a mask at work:
1. The CDC has helpfully provided a list of high risk conditions which can necessitate masking in order to protect yourself or a loved one, and...
2. Many of them are very, very common.
"If you notice, no one's wearing masks."
1. Gosh, I simply can't imagine why.
2. All that means is we're barreling headfirst into the polar opposite of the pandemic being over.
3. I DEFINITELY FUCKING NOTICED.
A thing that non-disabled people may not be considering about the covid-safe business list is that it's literally an accessibility tool.
Being immunocompromised—without info re COVID safety, delivery, etc.—no business that I don't absolutely HAVE to use can get my business.
🧵
When she escaped the train en route to a camp, in another country where she didn't speak the language, she met a deeply poor family. They barely had enough food for themselves but they hid & fed both her & another girl for the rest of the war.
I'll never forget that lesson.

CDC will be pausing COVID reporting for 2 wks beginning tomorrow through 6/20.
Extremely interesting timing given the significant increase in cases and hospitalizations over the last several weeks, when deaths are the most lagging indicator of them all.
People keep coming back to me with statements like "it isn't March 2020 anymore."
And you know what? They're right.
I am much more scared about the future and my own ability to protect myself than I was in March 2020.
And much, much, MUCH angrier.
@tashakaminsky
So much this. Even when not participating in overt violence, the apparent sudden shift in temperament, neighbors and friends showing no care and only self-interest. It just rocked people to their core.
She told me that her family had been well off, and when the Nazis came for her family and the small handful of other Jewish families in their building, they watched, stunned, as their equally wealthy neighbors looted their apartment before they were even on the truck.

Not for nothing, but how the FUCK did we end up somehow living the worst parts of the 1920s, the 1940s, the 1960s, AND the 1980s at the same goddamn time‽‽‽
I would like to speak to the manager of epochs.

If necessary, such as for a very high nose bridge like mine, you may also needed remove the mask and gently extend or smooth the new curves you've created to get a gapless fit. Just re-smooth to the face after re-donning the mask.
Et voila! No more corner gap, and no more leaks!
I'm seeing an absurd amount of post-con posts about "if you interacted with me, I just tested positive," and here's your reminder that that's a meaningless qualifier.
If you breathed while there, and I assume you did, that's all it takes.
Test. Test again. Then test a 3rd time.
1. Open up that creased wire until it is completely flat.
2. Mold the nose wire FIRMLY with BOTH hands, pressing into the natural indents & shaping to your face.
NOTE: Two hand forming is best practices for all masks, regardless of style & prevents the creation of new creases.
Reminder: The "95" in "N95" stands for 95% filtration efficiency.
The fewer people mask, the more uncontrolled transmission there is...
The more uncontrolled transmission, the more covid is in the air...
And the more covid is in the air, the more concentrated that 5% becomes.
So many Covid cautious people are telling me that an n95 is enough if nobody else masks.
They’re saying if I caught Covid in an n95 then I must not have fit tested etc.
This thinking isn’t helping us!
This is a 30 second modification that could literally save your life, so please share, and please let me know if anything needs clarifying.

When you first open up a front-folded KN95 or N95 mask, it will have a crisp, mechanical corner. This is what we've got to remove to get rid of that gap that's breaking the seal of the respirator against our face.
We need to achieve a natural face-shaped curve, instead. But how?
High risk means:
- Age 50+
- Asthma
- Current or former smoker (not only tobacco)
- Current or recent pregnancy
- Mental health conditions, incl. depression
- ADHD
- Autism
- Mobility disability
- Learning disability
- Diabetes T1 & T2
- BMI (sigh) 30 or higher
And on and on...
Which means:
1. "What's with the mask? Are you high risk?"
Yes.
2. "Who told you that?"
My doctor.
3. "With what?"
I don't discuss my private medical information.
4. "How long do you plan to keep this up?"
As long as necessary to protect my [loved one's] health.
5. END OF.
I just want to remind people that this is not only occurring, but it is occurring at a point where there is so little food and so little water that at least a dozen people in Gaza have already died of starvation.
This is not only genocidal displacement. This is a death march.

I feel like this would work great for me, because I'm not much of a liar, but I sound flustered on the phone as something of a default position, so that would kind of balance things out if they called to inquire further.
This tweet, much like my one cat, appears to have caught the zoomies.
Since I'm already getting replies from *ahem* concerned parties, please know this:
I've covered that topic and will not be replying to you individually.
"Omg, you're queer AND Jewish? Don't you know what happens to people like you in Gaza?"
I do, actually.
They get bombed into oblivion, like everyone else, by friends of these assholes in blue and pink wings waving a progress pride flag while mocking me for caring about that.
I really don't understand how people are walking around living their lives like everything's fine right now. I don't understand it. I've never understood it. I don't think I ever will understand it. And frankly I don't want to understand it. Not if it means being able to do that.
To say that the lack of masks at an overtly disabled advocacy event is disappointing is beyond understatement.
Worse than that is the uniformly disgraceful, condescending replies and the wholly inadequate parade of accountability-free "apologies."
They nearly all have been.

So this is a really helpful stack of receipts for the next time it comes up.
Clinicians, please stop these “annoy” tweets. Too many of your colleagues don’t understand the difference between punching up and punching down.
Punching down on patients -especially in public - fuels distrust. It isn’t worth the engagement points.
Something that I feel is getting overlooked in the (very correct) uproar re "extra" COVID funds going to cops is that the very existence of unspent relief is a systemic failure.
A failure brought on by means testing, overregulation, and undercommitment to human life.

And then another 2 for the quiet corrections. And 6-24 months for fuerther reporting by another outlet that utterly disproves the original report.
Meanwhile, 15 minutes to go make coffee and someone here has receipts, and someone else does the debunk by dinner time.
Sounds serious. The CDC should probably take this one up with the CDC. Maybe together they can approach the CDC about ways to address the crisis and prevent it from worsening, assuming the CDC doesn't block the attempt.

Honestly. There are so many reasons not to do this. Even if you don't GAF about other people.

2. Are you *trying* to overexert and end up with greater odds of Long Covid?
