Meanwhile in the U.K., I just dropped my kids off to church for an Easter service, then they’ll all happily walk back to school where there are no gun toting security guards, doors that lock from the inside or expecting to ask children under 10 to do a gun drill. It’s. The. Guns.
An absolute record month for me over on Pinterest. This time last year my Pinterest account was only hitting around 4 million impressions and about 20k link clicks. What am I doing differently?
I remember when I first took Pinterest seriously, 5 yrs ago & it became the main driver of traffic. However, I kept following bad advice like don’t pin more than 20 pins a day & only canva style text pins. I started experimenting with 35 pins a day & wow. There’s no stopping it!
2 sites, both on Kadence, pretty much the same setup. Fairly similar niches. One has ads, the other doesn’t. I bet you can guess which one has ads running on it. It’s the ads.
Is the Google game over? Pinterest took over as main traffic driver to my site in mid Oct & yesterday I had more page views from direct visits than Google!! My 2024 goal is to keep doing SEO but make my sole concern Pinterest & FB. My traffic from Google yesterday was abysmal 😬

@amylame
Ah the irony of this post when you’re moaning about nobody being in the pub because they can’t afford to after 14 years of Tory rule.
One of the things I keep seeing people say on here is that Google rewards brand awareness, or signals that people want to see your content. My direct traffic is 2nd highest traffic source, but I’m still stuck in purgatory after the HCU. I don’t think Google knows what it wants!
In incredible scenes (for me), site no. 1 went over 200k page views today. I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would ever manage this. This time last year, it was languishing in the 90k mark. Keep working at those sites guys 💪🏻💪🏻
My Pinterest account keeps going from strength to strength. Generally, I find my niche starts to tail off in December as people concentrate on Christmas. But it’ll boom 💥 in January. Just need to work on those CTRs!
Every week I watch in amazement as no. 1 niche site goes from strength to strength, with each Sunday better than the last. I keep looking at my analytics on Sunday, thinking this is it. Surely it can’t keep growing?! But it does 😂😂😂
@hazmattmum
I felt the same about season 1, then kept seeing everyone talk about it so thought I’d give it a go. It’s the best thing I’ve ever seen on TV and I dislike reality TV. You’re missing out.
I still don’t understand why brands are always falling over themselves to work with influencers on instagram. I have 270k followers & think the best link clicks I’ve ever got on an AD promotion in my stories was around 100 clicks. In contrast, my Pinterest account sent 120,000…
Well this is a nice looking graph! Pinterest has been continually growing for me over the last 3 months and the main thing I’ve changed? How many times I Pin!
A year ago I created a new site after finding 100s of low difficulty & high volume keywords. ‘23 was such a busy year, I never did anything with it. I’m going to start throwing AI posts on it & see how quickly I can monetise it with Pinterest & Google. I shall document it here!
This time last year I knew little SEO but started to teach myself. I worked hard to implement it & slowly saw my clicks grow. This week, my clicks are now less than where they were a year ago, when there was little SEO on my site. I feel all that hard work was a waste of time 😬
Got my monthly email from
@googlesearchc
today, congratulating me on 11.9k clicks in April. WTF! Before HCU, I was getting 65k+. Oh, & here’s my top growing query, for a site aimed at US home & DIY market. I don’t even know what this is.
@searchliaison
Google is an absolute mess
A very good reason why, when building niche sites, to concentrate on US, UK, Canada & Australia audiences. Look at those RPMs 🤩 At the beginning of ‘23, I started to concentrate on writing for US audiences & my earnings went from $800 a month to nearly hitting $4k this month.
Anyone else now just creating blog posts purely for Pinterest and Facebook audiences? 🙋🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️ Google is dead to me. Although weirdly, I got an email yesterday asking if I wanted to be part of a campaign for “Google for Publishers”. Let’s see what happens…
@toryboypierce
This is the umpteenth ridiculous tweet I’ve seen about the London election. They don’t start counting votes until 9am tomorrow. There are no exit polls. So unless someone was miraculously going round peering over every single voters shoulder, this stinks of Tory desperation
My Mediavine earnings for October weren’t as bad as I thought they would be after the HCU. Just when my earnings were really starting to ramp up, Google managed to spoil the party 😬😬 What did I do to steady the ship?
@MartinSLewis
Our trains are shocking & an embarrassment. For a major economy not to have a working transport system, it’s baffling. We went to Japan last week, their trains are incredible & roads quiet because of this. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realise Amazing trains = less cars
My earnings yesterday finally passed $200 for the first time. $220.25 in fact! January has always been a good month for my niche, but RPMs have historically been terrible so I’m shocked to see my earnings continuously beating records for me. How though?
I feel like I’m forever doing 1 step forward & 2 steps back with SEO & trying to figure how to make money with my blog. It can be so overwhelming & I’m not very good at prioritising. But then, I realised I made $792 in Nov ‘22 & $9523 last month so I stop being so hard on myself.
Current Pinterest status, off the scale! If only Google would do the same… I do love this time of year, it’s so good for my niche with Jan/Feb being the best. I’m going all in on Pinterest & FB (which has grown by 500 followers in the last 2 weeks!)
2nd site is finally growing (slowly) on Pinterest. It’s been such a slog, but I’ve realised that applying my 1st sites strategy (home decor) to this site (travel) does not work. Travel on Pinterest is a completely different beast & it’s all about the large, long, text images!
I’m on course to make just shy of $10,000 this month. Unbelievable. It turns out that if you stop obsessing over social media (I’m looking at you Instagram) on concentrate on your blog and building a brand, that’s where the real money is. Next month… $15000!!
Nearly 2000 people visited my blog from Pinterest yesterday! Video also seems to be doing quite well on there at the moment. I’m so glad they got rid of the browse/watch tabs and have done away with Idea Pins. Having just the one feed has seen my impressions explode!
It’s mental how Facebook works. I’ve been using it to promote my site for 6 years, never really putting any effort in. For obvious reasons, I’ve gone all in on FB since Oct. I keep reading that being negative (eg. saying something like “The Worst place…”) works. I can confirm
Despite a dip in Pinterest traffic in the run up to Christmas as everyone was rightly spending less time online, my Boxing Day traffic was off the scale! It is every year. I’m continually amazed at how my Pinterest account continues to grow ⬆️
Seriously, how does anyone grow on Facebook? I’m in home decor niche, with interiors aimed at age 30+ It’s perfect for FB, I post 3+ times a day with a mix of media & have run ads. I have a good understanding of what people want to see (my insta has 262k followers). But nothing?
I need twitters help! We (my husband & I) run a travel blog, & started covering our home town extensively (my husband was born & raised here). We’ve now had another blogger say we need to take our posts down as we’re copying her work because she also covers this town 1/4
And we’re off! GSC and analytics configured on a site I setup last year after finding lots of low volume keywords.
I shall be documenting my progress on here, hoping to get it monetised asap and using Pinterest, Google and FB to drive traffic
I’ve been using Pinterest extensively for 6 years now, it’s always worked extremely well. However, now that everyone knows what a traffic goldmine it is, Pinterest is becoming hugely flooded with content. I’m worried that soon, they’ll need to do what Google did & limit reach
Just activated two ads on FB, one for likes to my page, one for website visitors. Both ads are tailored to a US audience with a $5 spend a day for a month. Let’s see how we get on! 🤞🏻
@IrinavonWiese
I’m 100% remain, hate seeing what’s happening to our country, but we can’t have a 2nd referendum just so those too young 1st time can have a chance to vote. What about the people who are too young to vote in the 2nd? We have to draw a line somewhere.
Watching Danny Dyer’s Right Royal Family is like watching an adult version of Horrible Histories. I, for one, would like Danny Dyer to cover all of Britain’s history. Too funny! 🤣

Did you know it’s Recycle Week this week ♻️ and we all need to do our part to make our Planet a better place. Make sure you look out for the Recycle Now Swoosh on the back of products so you know they can be recycled!

Yep! We went on a brexit March and would quite happily go to protest against this government. No words can explain how angry I am with this govnmt at the moment
The thing I’ve noticed since the HCUs is there is no longer a definitive spike. Sunday used to be an amazing day for organic traffic, sometimes getting 5x more than any other day. Now it’s just a flatline dribble, with this Sun getting 210 clicks & Mon 350?! It doesn’t make sense
@tonythill
Around 2 months ago I started writing for FB & Pinterest and loosely doing SEO. The result is my traffic has gone up from 100k a month to 300k. Google who?! (Although I’m still tentatively checking manual actions… 😂)
Here is recap of what Google is doing to end my website. I have worked really hard for the last 20 years at this to see an algorithm update essentially end business as I know it. It's a long read with lots of charts and examples
Whilst I’m over here worrying about the state of Google and how I can pivot hard, a post I put up on Instagram on Sunday has gone a bit mental. Maybe it’s time to head back to creating for social media? 🤔🤔
Quantity mainly. For years I believed that you should post no more than 25 pins a day. My scheduler would warn me if I went over that number so I stuck to 25. I am now pinning around 35/40 pins a day and my impressions have skyrocketed.
One thing I’ve noticed when looking at organic search on a lot of niche sites & competitors, is that we all seemed to have a huge traffic increase in Jun/Jul ‘23. And around 90% of those have had a huge crash ever since. It’s like Google wanted to give us hope & then ruin them?
Things I’m having to deal with in Pinterest comments today -
• Being shouted at by an American for spelling organise the correct way (without the z)
• Being shouted at for using AI to create an imaginary vintage living room
>>>
Oh, & one more thing, which is probably a really important point. Pinterest itself has changed. It is no longer trying to be insta/tiktok. It no longer has 2 tabs for images & video (which was ridiculous IMO). It is predominantly an image search engine 🙌🏻 Thank you
@Pinterest
One of the most important things I’ve learnt this year is to hold tight when things change or Google lands everyone with a nasty update. I panicked after the HCU, changed my blog theme (it was a rolling blog home page & wanted to do it anyway) & dropped my frequency of ads…
people to my blog alone last month, with 1 pin alone sending 18000 people. Even FB knocks IG out of the park with 3000 clicks. I get TikTok, if a post on there goes viral, it goes mental. But IG?!? What a waste of time.
So, political correctness has seen the departure of one of my all time favourite DJs
@simonmayo
Thanks for keeping me company and sane whilst cooking my kids tea! You’ll be sorely missed

Pinterest most definitely. That platform is on fire right now & I’m looking to increase my pins from 35 a day to 40🔥 The biggest change though (I think) is; I changed my site font size from 16px to 19px & the uptick in earnings is evident. I’m surprised I didn’t realise sooner!
@carolvorders
Exactly. What is incredible is that 24% of people think that what is happening in the UK is fine. Probably people who don’t need the NHS/have a mortgage/need to send their kids to school/need to catch a train/work/need the police. I hate what this country has become

I guess you haven’t heard the term windfall tax then? Let’s just keep throwing money at the absurdly rich and propping up their ginormous profits. 🤑
I’ve just hit 100k followers on Instagram 🎉🎉 So, my new blog post is quite fitting - How to become a brand on social media and why it’s important!

I agree. Most of all, I’m fed up with all the hate. Can we all go back to being an inclusive, look out for each other society. The last three years has totally made me look at myself and what is important.
@Beno_ldn
I wouldn’t say it is a “UK” obsession. Every single person I know likes her and is a bit nonplussed about it all. It’s a right wing media obsession.
Is anyone still doing keyword research for their blogs? I feel when my top query is ranking for a keyword in Hindu and the 2nd top keyword is my website name, I’m becoming more disinterested in SEO and writing for Facebook and Pinterest!
@LadyJLondon
@cottarsbarn
Ah yes, the best health service in the world under Labour, no shit in the seas, trains running on time. It really was horrible under Blair 🙄🙄😬
I have one NY resolution and that is to no longer write for Google. To be honest, I was getting a bit tired of writing posts such as “Should you wallpaper over wallpaper? 10 Reasons why”. 🙄🙄😂😂
What is going on at the moment? I get seasonal lows, I get algo changes & flipping updates (Google 👀) but everything seems to be super sh!T. I’ve been doing this for 7 years. IG reach is non-existent. Pinterest is stagnant, TikTok is dead. 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ My CTR is rapidly dropping AGH
@Google
Really?! You think people want this? The whole joy of going on holiday and travelling is researching places, finding out what’s out there, looking at images and deciding where to go. This is SO tone deaf.
@mrdanwalker
I never understand why people think it’s ok to do this? We’ve done lots of renovations & our skip always gets filled with other people’s stuff. Skips cost money to hire, we’ve had to take other people’s stuff out because it was overflowing & then what? We have to get rid of it
Just listened to

and probably need to sit down with a pen & paper to catch all the best bits! A great episode on AI, I’ve been guilty of just using ChatGPT to give me blog post ideas. It’s time to up my game!
Gardens are huge on Pinterest at the moment & as my “niche” covers this, I’m going all in. I decided to go to AHrefs, export my internal URLs into excel & order them by organic traffic. Starting with my top garden posts, I’m going to update them & get new Pins on Pinterest asap.
@NicheSiteLady
Amazing!! I’m still super chuffed my site made $250 yesterday via mediavine whilst I was enjoying a roast dinner with my family. I have definitely found what I want to do with my life 😂
So, 5 years of full time blogging & back in dec 2022, I had managed to build up a DA39, had huge traffic from Pinterest & 1000s of backlinks without doing anything! I didn’t know much about SEO & was happily blogging away oblivious (1/3)
Another all time highest earning day for me yesterday! 1 month ago I watched as my organic search dropped due to the HCU, but out of nowhere, my Pinterest traffic overtook it and has now replaced it as my biggest traffic source. I’m going all in on
@Pinterest
I suppose the one good thing I’ve noticed since Google no longer wants to be my website friend is, my RPMs have increased by $10ish because the majority of my traffic now comes from Pinterest/FB & Direct. This has meant that I am still earning just as much before the HCU hit!
@IntrovertGeekUK
Haha. I’ve been using Pinterest extensively for 6 years. Other than working out how to use it “properly” I can confirm that the above works. Pinterest now sends 120,000 people to my blog each month. How? Volume.
(cos there’s limited amount of free things to do in a town), they’re written by us actually DOING these things. The blogger is also accusing us of using a similar format (things to do, restaurants guide, shopping, etc) but it’s a travel blog?! This is what all travel bloggers 3/4
