My favourite Tim Keller memory: 15 years ago, at a preaching conference in London, I ask a question so confused he doesn’t know how to answer. Then it’s coffee. Awkward, right? But as everyone gets up, he points to me and beckons me over. “I want to understand…” he said.

That’s my favourite memory. I was a young curate from a small town in Sussex. “I want to understand” should have been my line to him (and it was). But without any pretence and with a studied curiosity, “I want to understand” was his line to me. He spent all coffee time with me.

Thanks be to God for... 8 ways I'm grateful for Tim Keller: 1. Ministries of Mercy. His 1st book was doing 3rd way before 3rd way was a thing. Here was a /preacher/ calling all-the-body to serve all-the world with the gospel at the centre. A sign of the magnanimity to come.

It’s trending but what does it mean that “Jesus is the Son of God”? It means what you see in Jesus is what you get with God. He is exactly like his Father. Which means God is One who stoops, serves, suffers, bleeds and dies for you. To believe this changes everything.

Consider 3 social transformations in Christian history: the end of infanticide, gladiatorial games, and the slave trade. They’ve come thru preaching *and* politics—church power (cruciform witness) *and* state power (legislation/enforcement). It’s both—but in a particular way. 🧵

In the creed we say Christ is "of one being with the Father". It sounds so technical, actually it has the deepest pastoral significance. It obliterates any idea that behind merciful Jesus lies a dark 'God'. No, the arms-wide love of Christ crucified IS the arms-wide love of God.

About to drop my interview with @holland_tom . Get a load of some of these pearls... "The idea that human rights hangs in the ether waiting to be discovered is as theological as believing that Jesus Christ rose from the dead and sits at the right hand of the Father."

I was very reluctant to go on Unbelievable and speak about these horrors. In the end I appeared on the condition that Diane Langberg come on. I am Very glad she agreed, she's amazing. So, if you can put up with me, consider it the price for hearing her.

I felt bad about my sin this morning but then this afternoon I got self-righteous about someone else’s. Like a thirsty man drinking gravy. Would 0/10 recommend.

👮🚨👮🚨👮🚨👮🚨👮 In the same week that officers have been criticized for failing to adequately police glorification of terror they had no similar hesitation to spend time investigating the thoughts and prayers of silent Christians???

8. Mysticism. Tim Keller loved Jesus and he wanted us to love Jesus. He prayed for revival and he wanted us to pray. He enjoyed his sonship before the Father and he wanted us relishing the same. And now he's "face to face". May many follow in his footsteps.
