This is testament to all of the hard work of hundreds of young Jews speaking truth to power in our own community.
I could not be more proud of what we've built. Onwards ✊

Why I support
@BernieSanders
, a thread:
4 weeks ago, my stepmom was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. The past four weeks have been full of grief, pain, anger and sadness.
The order’s move to define Judaism as a "nationality" promotes the classically bigoted idea that American Jews are not American.
Trump’s Executive Order is not about keeping Jews safe.
This is just more antisemitism.

The Koch brothers funded the Tea Party; every day people funded my campaign.”

History will remember her as a leader who never lost sight of the freedom of her people, or any other.

If any other organization burned as much cash as they did this cycle, their boards would force them to close 👀
I’m supporting
@BernieSanders
because he is the candidate of working people. Because he has been a champion for
#MedicareForAll
for decades. Because I want to live in an America in which the people who have made this time manageable feel the dignity and respect they deserve.
Among other things, I think it’s remarkable that a Jew who opposes Israel’s occupation is a top contender for the Democratic nomination.
I can’t wait to see what this primary holds for all of us 🙌🏻🤘🏻
I'm running for president. I am asking you to join me today as part of an unprecedented and historic grassroots campaign that will begin with at least 1 million people from across the country. Say you're in:
We at
@IfNotNowOrg
are so proud to be the first Jewish organization to endorse
@BernieSanders
.
Bernie’s vision for peace and dignity for all Israelis and Palestinians has already transformed the Democratic Party.
We need to keep fighting.
Daily reminder that the extreme right & radical left overlap like a Venn diagram around
#antisemitism
. It’s irresponsible & inappropriate for a progressive leader, or anyone, to tweet this. It's flippant & insulting to the mainstream Jewish community, which
@J_Insider
serves.
My family is lucky enough to make healthcare decisions without worrying what it will cost.
I cannot think of anything crueler than a healthcare system that forces people in so much emotional pain to make financial decisions that may drive them into thousands of dollars of debt.
The
@ADL
and
@JGreenblattADL
just said the quiet part out loud.
This has nothing to do with Waleed's words. It has everything to do with the fact that
@justicedems
runs candidates who think that the US should hold Israel to the same human rights standards as every other country.
An ADL spokesperson defended Greenblatt’s criticism of Shahid, saying that “words have meanings — and consequences. Especially when coming from a professional spokesperson whose organization singles out Israel.”
My family's lifeline has been the sheer kindness and utter competency of the working people of this country: the nurses who gave her meds, the nurses aides who endlessly rubbed lotion where it itched and helped her go to the bathroom, the firemen...
who lifted her up the stairs when she came home to hospice, the domestic workers who now monitor her 24 hours a day in 12 hour long shifts.
Many of these people don’t get to enjoy the quality healthcare they have provided for my upper-middle class family.
Moral Jewish leadership is calling the occupation what it is -- a daily nightmare for Palestinians and a stain on the Jewish ethical tradition.
Thanks
@RepAndyLevin
for being a part of the fight to
#EndtheOccupation
.
Yesterday, I traveled to the southern West Bank, including the Palestinian village of Susya, which the Israeli government has destroyed twice and currently denies access to water.

@AmalyaDuek
Just saw
@RepJoshG
walking around the Capitol shouting into his cell phone: “It takes money to run in my district you know!”
Stressed about his primary challenger,
@Arati4Congress
maybe?
This is an important move in the right direction from
@ewarren
.
The next president must take action not only to prevent further disaster, but also to address the decades-long occupation that deprives millions of Palestinians of their rights.
Does any of this justify the Israeli gov denying residents of Gaza electricity? Denying their youth the freedom to get an education or their elderly access to medical care outside Gaza's borders?
Last time I checked, "progressives" weren't in favor of collective punishment.
Some elements of Gaza crisis
*Fires 10,000+missiles @ Israel
*Uses civilians as human shields
*Hangs gays
*UNWRA "abuses of authority for personal gain, to suppress legitimate dissent"
*Uses aid $ to build terror tunnels to Israel instead of schools, hospitals
*Torture by Hamas
In 2 weeks, I am leaving my job at
@IfNotNowOrg
. I am incredibly proud and humbled to have been part of a true collective labor of love, one that has fundamentally changed the Jewish community and been part of incredible change within American politics.
For reference: this is Jovi Val, on the left posing in front of a swastika and giving the Nazi salute, and on the right in his proud boys hat with

Please
@Liz_Cheney
do us all a favor and stop using Jew and Jewish memory as a GOP weapon against progressive women of color. Oh and while you're at it, you could also actually do something about children in concentration camps at the border.
Thanks for stopping by my office🤝
Please
@AOC
do us all a favor and spend just a few minutes learning some actual history. 6 million Jews were exterminated in the Holocaust. You demean their memory and disgrace yourself with comments like this.
@justicedems
supports badass women and is run by a badass woman.
Proud to work with all the incredible humans at this org who put their everything into this work.
In light of Trump + Bibi's permanent occupation plan today, it's crucial to remember that it isn't only the GOP that got us here. It's the tired DC logic of giving a blank check to the Israeli gov.
As
@PeterBeinart
argues, that's Joe Biden's record too.
Why the
@BernieSanders
piece in
@JewishCurrents
is so important (a thread):
For >20 years, the US has unconditionally supported the Israeli gov as it has made the occupation permanent. Despite some reprimands here and there, Obama’s policies were in line with this approach.
Excited to see
@tabletmag
go after
@realDonaldTrump
for repeatedly employing the dual loyalty trope this weekend at the Republican Jewish convention. I’ll just be waiting like 😐😐😐😐😐
.
@RashidaTlaib
, if you want to bring along some scrappy young Jewish activists who can speak to what the next generation of American Jews thinks about the occupation, count
@IfNotNowOrg
in.
So important to read this and let it sink in. Generations and generations of trauma.
As Jews, we should understand this. What will it take to stop causing it and being complicit in it?
🧵Watching Jerusalem this week is almost too much. This has been my whole life. "Conflict." And my parent's lives. And most of my grandparent's lives. They didn't have social media, just stories passed on that every Palestinian has. Not a single Palestinian doesn't have stories.
I’m so excited for
@IfNotNowOrg
to help to change the debate on the antisemitism, the occupation and Palestinian human rights in Washington. A thread re why we made this move:
.
@AOC
: the only time we’ve mobilized our economy to this scale is around war. But it doesn’t have to be that way. We need to mobilize our entire to face the exisistemial threat that is climate change.
#AOCAllIn
She cried at their words, and I cried watching her cry.
It’s so important for our politicians to hear these stories.
It’s so important to have leaders who listen to the pain of Palestinians robbed of freedom and the outrage of Israelis conscripted to enforce this reality.
Sad but telling times when the biggest challenge for a Jewish Establishment desperate to engage young people is...the growth of an anti-occupation organization run by and for young Jews
@IfNotNowOrg
.
@DemMaj4Israel
willfully uses the meaningless & tired “Israel’s right to exist” line to smear us. IfNotNow has never insinuated anything resembling the idea that we don’t want Israel to exist. They repeat it to avoid answering hard questions about their failed policy positions.
We support a two-state solution.
@IfNotNowOrg
steadfastly refuses to acknowledge Israel’s fundamental right to exist, in any borders.
Until they meet that very minimal standard, they are not even worthy of being part of the conversation.
"What we need right now is more of that conversation [about antisemitism]...There are really amazing organizations of young people, groups like
@IfNotNowOrg
, young Jews organizing for justice because they realize all of our fates are intertwined." -
@AOC
If only
@realDonaldTrump
spoke out against white nationalists and anti-Semites in his coalition with the same “pragmatic realism” as he approaches the Middle East...oh wait then he would be pandering to actual Jews instead of white Christian Evangelicals. My bad.
#SOTU
This is a seething indictment of the leadership of both parties and the failed logic of an American Jewish establishment that has spent billions of dollars portraying BDS as an existential threat to Jews while white nationalists have a champion in the White House.
WOW. Amazing poll numbers from
@ShibleyTelhami
presented this morning at
@BrookingsInst
Among respondents familiar w/ BDS, majority of Dems & Independents either support or don't oppose. 77% of Dems see BDS as legitimate. Large majorities of all parties oppose anti-BDS laws
Very excited to join
@NYCProgressives

The Progressive Caucus is so excited to announce we have hired
@emilyfmayer
to be the next caucus director! As a skilled and talented organizer, we can't wait to get to work building an equitable and fairer City for all New Yorkers.
It moved me to tears to hear
@BernieSanders
talk about his father escaping anti-semitism in Poland. The Jewish story the media shows so rarely reflects the stories of so many of our families; high-profile Jews are too often either Israel-loving fanatics or wealthy bankers/lawyers
Sen. Bernie Sanders at a campaign rally delivers some of his most deeply personal remarks: "Coming from a lower-middle-class family, I will never forget about how money, or really, lack of money was always a point of stress in our family"
The thing I took most from this strange non sequitur answer is this: there is no reason
@KamalaHarris
supports Israel on AIPAC's line. She does it because it is the safe, normative Democratic position.
While we’re all talking about satiric portrayals of bigoted Israeli government policies and our insane political culture which tries to deem all critique of these policies as anti-Semitic, let’s bring this one from Veep back please.
.
@4noura
poignantly expresses the heartbreaking reality that Palestinians face: dehumanization, trauma, the refusal by the Israeli state to allow even the most basic human activities to happen unencumbered.
As long as this is the reality, Palestinians will continue to resist.
Maurice Hirsch's islamophobia should call us Jews to take a long look in the mirror.
What have decades of justifying Jewish supremacy done to our people?
This vile tweet is not an exception; it is a symptom of the moral rot that comes from ruling over another people.
"Shouldn’t our vast sums of aid to Israel be conditioned on reducing conflict rather than aggravating it, on building conditions for peace rather than creating obstacles to it?"
@NickKristof
The tides are beginning to turn.
In 2001, Rep.
@BarbaraLeeForCA
stood as the lone Congressional voice against war in Afghanistan. She was mocked, maligned. Now history looks favorably on her vision & courage.
In 2023, BLee doesn’t stand alone.
Our anti-war movement is growing in Congress & across our country.
for all you haters out there, you’re right. I do have a secret agenda for the NYC city council.
(pssst it’s updating city technology so city workers no longer live in 2010)
I'm really angry and disappointed at
@BernieSanders
endorsing someone like
@cenkuygur
with a known track record of racism and misogyny. It's such an obvious, unforced error and gives so much fuel to the Bernie Bro stereotype.
Not to mention it being morally wrong. That too.
Now is the time for Jews to stand up and say loud and clear:
Our loyalty is to getting free — from white nationalism, from the
#antiSemiticGOP
, and from the moral stain of complicity in the oppression of Palestinians.
Trump’s cynical, anti Semitic game won’t stop us.
Lost amidst Trump's "disloyalty" comment is the fact that he was asked about military aid to Israel. That debate is coming, fast. Here's why we need to end the blank check
Why is is that foreign policy is seen as the arena of “policy experts” vs the people?
Do our politicians think Americans are too dumb or amoral to understand and vote their consciences on things that we’re funding beyond our borders?
Sen. Chris Murphy on ‘uncommitted’:
“I would hope that the President doesn't make decisions about what to do in Gaza or the Middle East based upon how the votes line up…
“These issues are too important to be dictated by the polls.”
This is when you know you’re winning the argument.
“We don’t have even need this bill because we already do this but also we are going to fight this bill ferociously anyways”
🙄🧐
The
@BettyMcCollum04
bill is both unnecessary and redundant. Current law already establishes reasonable conditions for aid to Israel and any other nation.
Aid can only be used for “legitimate self-defense” and internal security. Our govt already reviews every Israeli purchase.
Anyone who cares about solving the climate crisis and preventing anti-Palestinian lobbies
@AIPAC
and
@DemMaj4Israel
from destroying our democracy should read this piece by
@ezraol
.
Every Democrat should condemn the Israeli government's decision to bar
@RashidaTlaib
, a sitting US congresswoman, from visiting her grandmother.
Especially
@RepEliotEngel
,
@LeaderHoyer
and
@SpeakerPelosi
and the ~40 reps who traveled to Israel with AIPAC. Where is your outrage?
It’s official: Israel will bar Congresswomen
@RashidaTlaib
and
@IlhanMN
from entering Israel due to "suspected provocations and promotion of BDS” at this time the final decision is been drafted and passed for comments before a press release.
.
@Marie4Congress
represents a heavily Palestinian district in Chicago. She’s done her homework on Israel/Palestine.
I’m really excited to see her lead on a progressive vision that does not stop at America’s borders.
Congratulations to
@Marie4Congress
in her victory tonight and her fight for Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, reproductive rights, progressive foreign policy, justice reform, and ending skyrocketing inequality.
The bloc of mission-driven progressives is growing in Congress.
Dear members of the
@GOP
:
Pivoting to the love affair between Netanyahu and Trump when confronted about the lethal antisemitism in your party is not only extraordinarily transparent deflection, it’s also deeply *antisemitic*
Nice try though!
#JewsVsGOP
BREAKING: Today, the first day of Sukkot, IfNotNow members in Louisiana confronted
@SteveScalise
at a town hall and asked him to answer for his party’s complicity in antisemitic and white nationalist violence. He refused.
It has been such an honor to support
@AlexBMorse
for Congress.
So many young people in
@IfNotNowOrg
saw themselves in his story - a queer from an interfaith family whose only Jewish engagement was Birthright.
This generation is bout to make the Jewish community so much better.
The thing that drives me the most nuts is that, as we speak and tweet and talk about
@IlhanMN
at our dinner tables, there are GOP operatives and politicians who are smiling to themselves and thinking: “Today was a very good day.”
It is *almost* laughable how the Jewish establishment jumps at every opportunity to prove how out of touch they are with the majority of American Jews.
IMAGINE watching a white nationalist mob wearing Camp Auschwitz shirts take over the Capitol and then writing this letter?
Less than week after display in DC of kind of antisemitism that lead to LETHAL attacks on Jews, CoP, JFNA, ADL, AJC, Hadassah, & OU send Biden letter demanding quashing of campus free speech critical of Israel (like Pittsburgh, last week never happened)
Here... we.... go....

Watch out, this Council is learning how to flex 💪🏻💪🏼💪🏽💪🏾💪🏿
The New York City Council just overrode the mayor's veto on a package of housing voucher bills by 42-8.
The speaker didn't lose any votes - the initial package passed 41-7, but Vernikov (R) was absent.
We’re so proud of
@EmmaSaltzberg
, one of our movement co-founders, who is officially a two-time winner of
@Jeopardy
! Some good news in these dark times.
The entire Jewish left will be tuning in tonight as she goes for win number 3️⃣!
Over the next decade, the Jewish left should prioritize electing Jewish reps who will argue that Jewish values compel them to hold Israel accountable for human rights violations, instead of weaponizing Jewish identity to demonize their progressive colleagues.
If there is a people who understand the danger of racism and white nationalism, it is the Jewish people. If there’s any group on earth who should be trying to bring people together around a common agenda, it’s the Jewish people.
@BernieSanders
at
#JSt2019

@realDonaldTrump
: The fight against antisemitism will insinuate that American Jews aren’t American and criminalize free speech.
👎🏻 for the Jews.
@BernieSanders
: The fight against antisemitism is inextricably connected to the fight for Palestinian freedom.
👍🏻 for the Jews.
.
@BernieSanders
makes clear that he would use the 3.8 billion dollars the US gives every year to ensure human rights.
This is a clear distinction between Bernie and the other presidential candidates who want to pretend that a human rights crisis isn’t already happening.
#JSt2019
1. I'm joining
@JewishCurrents
as Editor-at-Large. (I'll remain a contributor at The Atlantic--where I write on non-Jewish topics--and CNN, and a professor at CUNY). I want to explain why.
In the face of condescension and suspicion from the appointed gatekeepers of the American Jewish community,
@JamaalBowmanNY
makes it clear he has done his homework and continues to insist on everyone’s humanity, including Palestinians.
He makes me so hopeful.
Watch exchange between
@JamaalBowmanNY
and
@JCRCNY
on Bowman’s support for the McCollum bill on US military aid to Israel. It’s not often that a member of Congress understands the diversity of Jewish opinion on Israel, and how many Jews center “Palestinian pain” in their activism
You gotta love the sheer audacity of
@AIPAC
singling out the only Jewish candidate in the 2020 race for his critique of Israel.
It’s gonna be a wild ride y’all.
If Rabbi Hillel was alive, I think he would think this was a pretty fitting application of his three questions:
If I am not for myself, who will be for me?
If I am only for myself, what am I?
If not now, when?
BREAKING: We're proud to launch the IfNotNow 2020 Platform and ask every elected official to commit to its two pillars:
#DefundOccupation
and Fight Antisemitism & White Nationalism.
Does Israel have the right to be a permanent occupier, without granting Palestinians any civil rights? Does Israel’s existence necessitate ongoing dispossession and displacement of the Palestinians? My generation wants answers to these questions.
We need Jewish leaders who see the fight against antisemitism as one and the same as the fight for Palestinian freedom. Who live up to the challenge of Hillel’s three questions:
If I am not for myself, who will be for me?
If I am only for myself, what am I?

I’m leaving feeling incredibly proud of how
@alexandrasiera
and so many others built one of the most impactful Democratic and progressive organizations from scratch.
Along with so many others,
@BernieSanders
is leading the way.
We have a historic opportunity ahead: to make maintaining the occupation as costly as it is for Palestinians who live under it.
They will paint us as antisemites and self-hating Jews.
But I believe that we will win.
But in order to change US support for the occupation, we can’t only challenge the policies; we must totally undermine the rationale. We need a movement of Jews rejecting the notion that our safety is dependent on the oppression of others.
One thing that shouldn’t be missed in all the punditry that will follow
@Brandon4Chicago
