“The anti-Zionism of powerlessness is deeply cowardly. It avoids the real challenges of power, its messiness, its insolvable moral dilemmas & its endless shades of gray. Diasporism is a facile escape, for which someone else is expected to pay the tab.” A thought-provoking…

My latest article, written w/ @ckasapoglu1 , says Israel is dangerously dependent on the US | “[J]ust eight years after winning its independence, Israel, a fledgling state with a tiny economy, enjoyed more operational sovereignty than it does today.”

As Israel celebrates Independence Day, @Doranimated and @ckasapoglu1 remind us that the Jewish state enjoyed more sovereignty in 1956 than it does today, thanks largely to its dangerous dependence on the US. A must-read over at @tabletmag :

Diasporism is a facile escape, for which someone else is expected to pay the tab. Easier to sit in judgment in an air-conditioned room at Columbia University writing about the virtues of powerlessness than to work hard to make prophetic visions a reality.

Otto Schneid's unpublished and unknown encyclopedia was awaiting publication at a press in Vienna at the time of the Anschluss, when Nazi officials commandeered the publishing house, confiscated Schneid’s manuscript, and blacklisted him.
