The most unrealistic part of Barbie is when they get to the Venice beach boardwalk in LA and there are no homeless, no junkies, no vandals. Just guys that look like frat boys from USC. Barbie then says she feels fear because of these boys. Wonder how she'd feel in the real LA.

Fat woman takes Ozempic to lose weight. She is surprised to discover her thin friends support her and her fat friends judge her. Normal healthy people want their friends to triumph, an alien mentality for those who find comfort in dragging others down.

While Marx's wife was pregnant, he impregnated their housemaid. To hide this from Marx's wife so she wouldn't get angry, Engels pretended he was the father. Then they gave the kid away. Both Marx and Engels abandoned him, pretending the kid didn't exist.

“Marx lived the life of a parasite. When his wife was pregnant, suddenly the maid became pregnant too—Marx was the father. Marx wrote to Engels ‘Dear friend, I have news for you about yourself.’ He hoped Engels would assume paternity of the child, so Mrs. Marx would not be angry"

Best books I read in 2022 1. The Daily Laws @robertgreene "long term goals tend to generate anxiety...break tasks into smaller bites...have microgoals..what you are after is a series of practical results and accomplishments, not a list of unrealized dreams and aborted projects"

The best books I read in 2021 1. Envy by Helmut Schoeck "Envy is above all a phenomenon of social proximity...Envy is always between neighbors. The envious man thinks that if his neighbor breaks his leg, he will be able to walk better himself."

Humans have an inbuilt, anti-capitalist tendency to fundamentally dismiss trading relationships as a form of scam where the seller profits disproportionately.

It's unfair to make someone pay off a loan they signed up for. But it's perfectly fair to make others pay off a loan they didn't sign up for.

In continental Europe and Asia it’s not uncommon to see attractive people working ordinary service jobs—airport staff, drivers, security guards, etc. Seems like in the US (and UK) hot people quickly figure out how to capitalize on their looks or maybe there is a greater economic…

When people say “there’s no such thing as cancel culture” it reminds me of season 1 episode 5 when Tony Soprano tells his daughter “There is no mafia.”
