Look a bit closer at the ads in todayโ€™s @Independent_ie and @suntimesireland . Domestic abuse including coercive control is still very much hidden in plain sight in Ireland. On #IWD2020 @womens_aid is partnering with @VodafoneIreland to raise awareness. Please share to help.

This situation cannot continue. It is an utter disgrace that with the highest levels of domestic abuse and femicide in recent memory, the vital work of @WomensAidNI is jeopardised.

๐Ÿ›‘TIME HAS STOPPED๐Ÿ›‘ Womenโ€™s Aid Federation NI now no longer receives core funding from the Department of Health. We are now the only Women's Aid Federation in the UK not to receive funding from local government. #SAVEOURFUNDING

Today, on International #HumanRightsDay , we remember the 264 women who have died violently in Ireland since our records began in 1996. Each woman killed violently is an outrage. An absolute tragic loss of life resulting in utter heartache and trauma for those left behind. 1/2

On #NollaigNamBan we thank and remember the contribution of the many women who, since our foundation nearly 50 years ago, have broken silences and taboos, created laws and provided support to women and children subjected to domestic abuse. We stand on the shoulders of giants.

The women we support are extraordinarily brave, resilient and determined but also face an onslaught of abuse. Living with and surviving domestic abuse can be exhausting. Sometimes itโ€™s okay to rest and take on the world tomorrow.
