The brand new Channel 5 Series 'Britain's Greatest Cathedrals' starts this Friday (Good Friday) at 8pm starting with York Minster. We can confirm that the Winchester Cathedral episode will air Friday 11th May at 8pm.

This 15th century gate with its two massive iron-studded gates once gave access to the ‘working’ courtyard of the medieval priory, including a guest-house and stabling for visitors. It’s still closed up every evening! 📸

Said to have been commissioned by Bishop Henry of Blois in the 12th century, this square black Tournai font has been used in many baptisms, including some royalty, and is still in use to the present day!
There are some beautiful stained glass windows in Winchester Cathedral. Don’t miss the three windows by Edward Burne-Jones in the Epiphany Chapel, made in the William Morris workshops!

The poppies have been installed on the Cathedral railings as a symbol of remembrance.
All are welcome to attend the Armistice Day Act of Remembrance with the Turning of Pages on Thursday 11th November at 11am in the Cathedral.
Yesterday we found this lonely teddy sitting on the steps outside the Virger's Vestry in the Cathedral. He is being well looked after by the Virgers but we would love to reunite him with his family before Christmas! Please help us by retweeting this post

Today is the start of a 4-week project to clean the Great Screen. The screen was constructed between 1470-90. The original statues were removed during the following century and the screen was restored and new statues made in 1885-1899.

Tonight’s Evening Prayer Service for the crisis in Ukraine.
The great screen was illuminated with the colours of the Ukrainian flag, and candles were lit in reflection and prayer, next to a vase of flowers and small flag.

The first two Peregrine chicks have hatched overnight! The other two eggs should hatch today or tomorrow - the chicks start calling from inside the unhatched eggs the day before they are about to break free.
