Words In Progress this week explored the
#etymology
of the word 'purdah'.
With an origin from Urdu & Persian to evolve and be used during this period ahead of the election:
@OwenJones84
So are you saying a woman can only represent a woman's views?
All women's views?
Men don't have a say in women's lives? Any men?
Including you? Or just Rishi Sunak? Or Tories? Any Tories?
What about women Tories?
Hold on, what are the rules here?
@SamFowles
Please can you explain what you mean by 'Victorian idea of womanhood' and also why you feel that the women who have raised concerns about safety and single sex spaces, should be dismissed, and 'should mind their own business'?
Language has been debated, and when a word's meaning
@Maanvi2501
Are you screaming about other forms of food segregation? Or just singling out the ones you want to tip toe around in your secular India? Why don't you mention this about vegan food eaters, halal, kosher etc etc?
@AbhishBanerj
Ohhhhh... And then a couple of days later the Guardian reported it was 'the day that may well go done in history as the day the British finally left India'.
@kritipraa
No cheat sheet sister. Own your life and everything that comes with it.
All you need to check is who pays your bills. If the answer is you, then you have no time to waste. Get up and get on with getting what you want.
@AyoCaesar
I'm assuming an anti-racist advocate such as yourself, you'll also tackle the obvious racism that has been coming out where words like 'Parasitic merchants' and 'go to hell Patel' have been used?
@DouglasKMurray
Someone will need to define what ‘transphobia’ looks like because it seems to be if anyone raises a rational concern for implications for society in changes to the law? But that means you can never raise concerns about anything!
@wrong_speak
The more I've shifted my narrative on seeing the world as I do now, the more resentment I've seen from people. I was told multiple times over the last few weeks 'you'll never be white'. I honestly didn't know I was trying to be, nor what that meant.
@JoelBrownMD
@ZubyMusic
I’m not one to want words banned but there is an argument to stop using the word ‘racism’ and see how people handle situations.
@AyoCaesar
Then tackle both equally. Don’t pick and choose. The silence over the obvious racism towards the Asian shopkeeper by anti-racist advocates has been deafening and sheds a light on the reality of where priorities are. Even the
@RunnymedeTrust
isn’t acknowledging it.
@RestIsPolitics
Did you not include that Congress is the party who wants to point out everyone’s caste by doing a Caste census & dividing the country even more?
@RoryStewartUK
I hope you are looking at further intricacies of what is *actually* happening in the country.
@KonstantinKisin
Irony of her being able to shout 'shame on you' so freely as she did when you said this is one of the best countries to be in. People don't realise how privileged we are.
Just when you think nothing could be more destructive than Communism, the Congress proves you wrong with the two most diabolical promises - wealth redistribution and inheritance tax. There is no cure for the Congress. It can only be defeated through herd immunity.

Tonight, we are joined by

Obviously not clear enough. You seem to imply he cannot be a champion of my rights. I have to then assume it's because he's a man you're saying that. It matters Mr. Jones. All of it does. Legislation has a knock on effect for us all, not just the community you are fighting for.

I like his work, and I'm brown. I don't go to a pub because I'm teetotal. His book was eye-opening, & it was part of the process to move away from the rhetoric you're in - to see things differently. I hope one day you'll engage with each other beyond your differences.
@JoelBrownMD
If we’re all flawed, how is it possible that Meghan & Harry are flawless?
Genuinely hope they sort their issues with their fam out, but still begs the question.
I’m also losing sight of what isn’t racist.
What a great night! The pod that saved the political discourse. Awesome watching live. Especially

Everything JK Rowling warned the world about in her 2020 essay has been proved to be true.
Her abusive critics don’t hate her because “she’s wrong “ but because she’s right and they can’t stop her talking about the impact on women,children & gay & lesbian rights.
@GarethThomasMP
I’m unsure what’s happened here, but being of Gujarati heritage, a Hindu, born in Harrow, having had you as my MP since ‘97 & knowing your work with all communities it seems a bit of a stretch of an accusation.

From his video and comments, I went to our own Electoral Commission guidelines here in the UK to see what our guidance was.
