Interesting to see so much focus on A&E waiting times. Last nights on call we were well staffed and triaging patients fine…No room at the inn to see anyone though due to patients in the dept waiting for non-existent inpatient beds all night. It’s not an A&E problem

Early days but a fantastic sight to see good news of Christian Erickson after an onfield cardiac arrest

Football emergency courses for medics teach that this is a dangerous and unnecessary thing to do. A gentle temporary jaw thrust is all that is needed.
@sportbible
. How on earth has he been praised and how do we stop players doing this?
Great to be with the boss at his last home game after 250+ games.

As detailed on
@BBCRadioScot
1. Off the ball collapse is cardiac arrest until proven otherwise.
2. Athletes may twitch or gasp - don’t confuse this with “normal breathing”.
3. CPR and prompt defibrillation save lives. Make this the absolute priority.
He’ll shy away from it and many others involved, but today’s a good day to credit

Proud our Emergency department
@nhsfife
in Kirkcaldy is third best in the UK for training experience by the GMC survey. Trust, integrity, commitment and fun -key values which I see every day. Lucky to work in great teams recently. We even have a sports medicine consultant in ED
Checking the bags for the next sports trip. In time critical emergencies, storing kit in ergonomically friendly ways makes for a faster & calmer response. This bag folds to a flat table and is arranged in ABC format with Velcro pouches for things like AED. The best I have used
Absolute legend.
The most influential person and my trainer for last 20 years. His longevity and success has been through professionalism, good values and treating players like patients.
He will be missed and leaves unfillable shoes (boots!) for my generation of sports docs.
Lovely touch from the NHS. Unannounced and unexpected thank you certificate from
@nhshighland
. 20 years and a couple extra in Australia. How’s that possible- I still feel like a youngster. (Work for
@nhsfife
in last couple of years but still on the books for old Skye job.)
Shift over. That is that for 2020. Best wishes to all frontline workers who are working over Hogmanay- but especially my brilliant colleagues in our Emergency department

One of my two fave Skye photos from living there. The view from the urgent care/minors unit in Portree Hospital. If there is a better view from a hospital I’d like to see it?
End of the season and end of my three years with

football. Great people, great values. Thanks to the performance team and players.
@DannyWelbeck
- the real Wozza has now left the building! All efforts back on Rugby and preparing our athletes for Tokyo Olympics!
Disappointed to hear soft head guards being pushed as valuable in concussion prevention at a school sports conference this week. Evidence remains that they give a bigger head volume (so more scope for contacts), no protection against concussion and potentially riskier behaviour
@nrlphysio
Puts sinus air under the skin....but also puts it behind the eye and increases retro-orbital pressure and can* damage the optic nerve. Best practice is not to use nose blowing as an onfield diagnostic test, but to look for inferior rectus snagging on upward gaze instead
I support the junior doctors today. All public services are affected. You can’t take talented people, give them over 100k debt, life and death responsibility, then ten years of year on year pay degradation with 2-3k fees just to go to work without standing up for all workers
Strangest feeling of my life tonight. At 49 yrs and 364 days I finally have a feeling of mortality and feeling “old”, yet lucky to still be here, unlike Al, unlike Russ, unlike John, Still doing cool stuff, with a cool family. Very fortunate. But definitely- old and mortal.
My final sport has finished so plans for home. What a fantastic positive experience

“SCRUMCAPS” Scottish Rugby Union medical cardiac and pitchside skills teaching faculty 2022. Good to be helping with teaching pitchside emergencies and skills again last week for the benefit of (rugby) player welfare in Scotland
@Scotlandteam
It’s not enough for a community to “buy a defibrillator”. It needs local champions to look after it, publicity to promote it, & community CPR training to remove fear of using it. Hold a public fundraising for 50% of the cost & our charity
@Lucky2BHere1
provide an AED & training
It is with sad and heavy hearts that we share the passing of one of our most valued members, Alistair Dewar. Al was a kind, big hearted, outstanding man who was at the centre of creating Save a Life for Scotland. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this time 💙

The 5 sisters of Kintail today. A regular view on the Lochcarron road from Skye to Inverness. Days like today it's hard not to miss living in the Highlands.
Melancholy morning after last nights final loss. Great group -great values playing a great brand of rugby. All the best to players & staff departing esp Physio's Nicola Mcguire (who I've been lucky to work alongside since 2007) and Gabby McCullough

@PRO14Official
Bit of a poor headline
@bbc5live
“GP’s paid £10 per covid jab”... that’ll be as GP practices are small businesses with budgets etc ..so to fund the staffing/waste disposal/additional PPE for mass vaccination the practice gets £10 per head. It’s not £10 in the docs pocket.
Christmas edition of

online programme - still with full page article reminding everyone to be cautious with concussion and that there is no HIA in the amateur game and players should be just removed on any level of suspicion. It’s “If in doubt sit them out”

Now that Sports concussion had a podium presentation at a major UK
