This is my brother Nick. It would have been his 50th birthday today. He died a week after his 16th birthday. He was a life force, loved by many and we miss him every day. I’m proud he was my brother which is why I’m sharing this. Love you Nicky.
Tragic news for the families of those Welsh boys. I know people lose their lives every day on the road, but something about this group of young men heading out to experience the world on their own, makes my heart break.
She taught us how to live, and how to die. She was a warrior. And the joy she found in life will live on in the family she loved so fiercely. Thank you for everything Debs ❤️

podcaster. Journalist. Fundraiser.
Our friend and colleague Dame Deborah James has died.
She created an incredible legacy: breaking the poo taboo and raising awareness of bowel cancer.
We are heartbroken, and our condolences are with her family.
Here’s a thing… I don’t think I’ve ever felt more concerned about getting covid at any point in the last 12 months than now. I’m not living in fear, I’m not terrified to leave the house, it just seems to be *everywhere* at the moment…
I’ve just *slightly* lost it at a teenage lad who chucked his empty cans out of the train door and over the platform fence.
There are no bins apparently.
Asked him what kind of a world would we live in if everyone f*cked their rubbish wherever they liked.
I was a bit cross
I know millions of you have been through this already but I have to confess to a minor meltdown today when mum and dad got their vaccine invite through. And it’s happening on my birthday which is the best present ever.

After 18 months of talking about it, covid has finally caught up with me. Currently self medicating in bed with paracetamol and a mini magnum.

There are loads of things I could tell you about the show tomorrow (COP26, banning bonfires, ABBA,
@RobbieSavage8
) but for me it’s mostly about saying goodbye to this fella after ten years.
He is, and I don’t say this lightly, a radio legend.

Not actually a slightly ropey engagement photo, but me hanging off
@NickyAACampbell
because I had the hangover from hell, after a fabulous evening with The Campbells. Life is gonna be very strange without him.
And so it begins... The first GSCE exam today for our first born today. Last night I spent 45 minutes reading out questions in German very badly which definitely helped.
Good luck to all parents and carers out there - I stand with you.🍀🍀🍀
For the love of god can we let the

students have their day tomorrow and celebrate results without the debate around grade inflation. It’s been a rubbish enough year already. Good luck everyone. ☘️
(ps I don’t have anyone doing a levels)
Well this feels like a lifetime ago. I’ve really missed sharing a studio with this fella this year. Through all the madness we help each other hold it together. Just about. Thanks for sharing your mornings with us. Stick with us - things can only slightly improve.
@NickyAACampbell
Unexpected distraction from lockdown this weekend when the 3rd child’s tummy ache turned out to be appendicitis. Quickly couple of snips and all good now thanks to the brilliant staff at Macclesfield hospital. Child then punished my crap diagnostic skills by crushing me at crib.
Someone amazing I know, a great friend and mentor, died today. Another time I’ll tell you more about her. It was a short illness but not covid. Sometimes in life you get lucky - her friendship was a gift that I will always be grateful for. And it’s good to say that out loud. ❤️
I’m working in London for a couple of days and sitting by myself in a restaurant with a glass of wine (lovely) listening to four pissed men on a nearby table making sexist and homophobic comments. Vile. I’m in the brink of telling them they’re arseholes.
I fell head over heels for this
@England
team and it’s fans over the last month. I’ve had the time of my life. Such a privilege to be here. Thank you.

I’ve snuck in to the spare room to watch the golf and eat an Aldi mini magnum in bed without being disturbed. This is exactly what I hoped my life would be at the age of 43.
I am the only person I know in the BBC who’s had a parent who worked there. My dad definitely did give me a love for radio. He left before I got my first job at
@BBCSuffolk
- but I’m not embarrassed about the fact he worked here. I’m very proud to have followed him.

Last leg of journey now back to Manchester. Shutting down for a couple of days. Thank you so much for all the lovely messages. I am very lucky to do this job and work with some brilliant people. We also have the best listeners in the world of course. 😊👍🏴
I wanted to say thank for all the messages this week about my brother Nick. It’s been a little overwhelming and lovely to share with the rest of the family. I’ve been really moved by the messages from others who’d lost siblings. Sorry I couldn’t reply to them all. Sending love ❤️
It was 60 years ago today... Happy Birthday to my friend, radio other half, mentor and co-conspirator. It’s nearly our ten year anniversary too - hopefully by then we can share a bourbon or two together. Love ya! Have a great day

This afternoon I’ve picked up one child from school, another from detention, another from the station, dropped child 2 at boxing, then to scouts after dropping first child at party, to be picked up at midnight. When the hell am I supposed to have my wine??? 😩

are really moving. There are some broadcasters who seem to walk alongside you through life and I think Steve was one of those. We'll reflect more on his huge radio legacy tomorrow 6-9am
Thanks so much for all the messages and bits of advice - so lovely to wake up to this morning. I’m also aware it’s been a dreadful virus for many people over the last 18 months, so even with two jabs, I think I might need a wee bit of time out. See you soon. 😴
On another note, as the parent of a current 13 year old, can I apologise now to my mum for all the times I was a mardy gobshite in my teens. And there were many times.
Happy Christmas from both of us! Our last show of the year together.
#smugface
Thanks for hanging out with us over the last 12 months. You’ve genuinely made us laugh every day, mostly for the right reasons. We love our

I'm going to put this out there - I don't like people dressing up their dogs and cats. I think it's ridiculous. Unless it's a coat for warmth but even then I'm not sure it's necessary. I saw a dog the other day in a onesie. 😬
Apologies for not replying to everyone - I’m going wrinkly in a bath with a glass of fizz and shamelessly indulging in reading all the lovely messages. And the one’s that say we’re shite. I’m truly grateful to everyone who’s been in touch today. Thank you
Shite forgot the wedding anniversary. A friend just reminded me. Good news is he also forgot so I have a chance to get the wine in and still be the winner.
Worth saying in light of the announcement of

Thank you to all the production and technical team, plus some brilliant broadcasting colleagues - for all the collective work on the special programme for BBC radio today.

Back home for a few days. Here is the Marcus Rashford mural. Lots of mentions for Sancho and Saka too, I hope they all know that this is how the vast, vast majority of the country feels.
Sleepover update. It’s carnage. They are still totally hyper. I’ve drunk most of the wine and am about to put my earplugs in. Status of Wagonwheels unknown.
Completely heartbreaking news about

. What a woman. I loved her in everything she did. The kind of person you’d love to have been friends with. Just broken for her family and friends. ❤️
It’s Karen our floor manager’s last day on
@BBCBreakfast
. She’s been a soothing sea of calm and organisation in the behind the scenes madness of live tv and just lovely to share a studio with. 38 years at the BBC. Respect. We’ll miss you! ❤️
I want to thank our fabulous childminder who keeps everything ticking along, and usually only works part time hours but this summer was a second mum to all the kids while I was away in Russia. She is amazing.

My friend Nicola lost her beautiful son Lucas in an accident last month. He was 12 years old and her only child. Somehow she found the strength to say these words at his funeral and brought us joy in the darkest of moments. With her permission I’m sharing them here

And for very understandable reasons, there’s a huge desire to get back to ‘normal’ and learn to live with this, but I don’t much fancy getting it, or passing it on, or getting long covid. That’s all. Don’t really know what the sensible solution is.
Farewell
@mrdanwalker
- just a lovely fella and probably deserves a lie in or two. Questionable views on pineapple and best way to cook an egg, but I think we have some common ground on peanut butter. Good luck with the next adventure!
Seeing in the new year with great friends and slippers. Happy new year to you all. It’s been a pretty hectic 2019. Thank you for listening to us, your patience and your expertise and all the feedback (good and bad). See you back at

Breakfast followed by pudding toast followed by a hefty snooze hopefully.
Only posting this because I believe these are the best poached eggs I’ve ever cooked.

Here’s the funny thing. I get up at 3.30am 5 nights a week and have done for 8 years and yet I still get a buzz on a Sunday night about going into work. And having a chat with

In other news.. I have a nearly teenager and I’m already impressed at the many ways I can embarrass her. Today I caused her shame because I turned the car around. Near her friends.
