A friend asked about my #process for the #swordtember swords. I usually opt for feels over process, but for these daily exercises, for speed, I start with flats for easy selection mask. In other swords the end color doesn't always match the flats and that's just fine. 1/2

I checked out GPT4 and I’m amazed by how artists are some of the few vocal ones. Art is one of the hardest things for AI to mimic. Most non-art white collar workers who are blindly happy about “free art” will be out of a job much faster than artists once corporations catch on.

The most disturbing thing about the Opensea mess is seeing my portrait on the page of NFTs. I have not authorized any of it, yet my pfp gets stamped onto the “collection”. It’s a dirty feeling similar to defamation. I filed a report this morning, we’ll see how it goes.

Part of why I had issues getting into highpoly workflow is retopo felt like a pain. So I finally bit the bullet and tried out how it feels in Blender. It honestly feels so much easier? Snapping actually makes sense. Shrinkwrap modifier and grid fill are awesome. #b3d #Blender3d

Tiger experiment is a wrap! The painting process feels similar to physical mini-painting which is fun. I did add clearcoat mask and spec map since Bpainter made it pretty easy, but not as prominent in a still image. Motion learning will be later. #b3d #Blender3d

I try to keep an open mind on a lot of things, but my personal stance on using stolen, blended garbage in place of thoughtful human visual explorations is something similar to “over my dead body” on a career level. I’ll do anything else if it ever becomes a job requirement.

I’ve shipped a number of games from AAA to indie. In case you wonder if art truly is the first thing done in a game, let me tell you: art is often tweaked till engineers pry the mouse/stylus from our cold dead fingers so we don’t break the shipping build.

I look at an AI gen and see emptiness. Give me a doodle from a trained artist done in minutes, and maybe a note or two, and I’ve already gotten so much more out of the interaction. This is what expertise actually means. And it’s not “monopoly” - you too can get more if you try.

A friend mentioned ChatGPT can write unity/maya scripts so I finally signed up. It has now written me a grass shader, a 2D character controller, and a DnD character's backstory with 10 directed revisions. Torn between "Wow!" and wanting to move to a world w/o computers.
