The 18-24 bracket of this poll has Conservatives on 1%. The warning light is flashing red 🚨
Ditch the strategy of just trying to appeal to older voters. We must deliver for young people.
Young people aren’t exclusively left wing, history and other countries show us that.
House prices in the UK have rocketed since 1970, boosted by an artificial choke on supply.
This has historically been an electoral asset as boomer voters felt richer, but now sky high prices are sapping growth.
Conservatives must feel a sting of urgency in addressing this.
“A graduate earning £35,000 a year pays almost double the average tax of someone with the same income from rent on property”
⚖️ Our tax system needs to be rebalanced to support working people. Income tax cuts must come first.

Britain is becoming an inheritocracy. If we don’t build more homes, young people’s chances in life will be determined by their parents wealth
If Conservatives stand for equality of opportunity, we must fix the housing market
Stark analysis from

It is critical that Conservatives adopt a policy platform that addresses under 45s priorities - housing, childcare and the cost of living
🚨 Introducing Next Gen Talks, a new discussion series on how Conservatives can win back the under 45s.
📣 Listen to our first episode with
@SimonClarkeMP
below.
We talk housing, family, tax & how to deliver for young people.
Big tax breaks to the over 50s would be the wrong priority.
With an entire generation moving away from the Conservatives, the party must reassess its approach.
Fixing childcare would see thousands of young parents return to the workforce.
Bella is right - London is winnable for the Conservatives.
We need a new vision. One that is pro-regeneration and speaks to all Londoners. Young and old,
inner and outer.
We need to give young people a reason to vote Conservative again in London. That means focusing on investment, homes, infrastructure, families and growth. It’s incredibly frustrating we don’t have a positive vision to sell. My thoughts on the local elections 👇
Great to have

He threw his support behind our campaign to win back the under 45s. Building more homes, making it easier to raise a family and making our tax system reward work.
Not trusting grown adults to make their own decisions.

Labour are deliberately misleading the public. Cutting NICs will have no effect on pensions, and reduces the double taxation of working age people.
Young people are paying significantly more tax than their grandparents did. That isn't fair and it is right to fix it.
Rishi Sunak’s unfunded £46 billion pledge is a threat to pensioners like Betty.
It’s time for him to come clean about who is really going to pay for it.
A graph of Canadian Conservatives support. A few things the UK can learn:
📈 Pro- housing policies caused a huge boost in support among U30s
⏰ The poll boost came quickly. It’s not too late to do more now.
👵 Older voters didn’t move away. They want their family to do well.
👏 Housing is the single biggest policy challenge, especially in London.
We need more Conservative candidates with the conviction and courage to speak up on this.

"People have got to have somewhere to live"
It's a rare sight these days to see a parliamentary candidate *in London* publicly pledge to build more homes...
Massive props

Candandian Conservatives are polling at 40% for the U35s. A huge boost.
Their secret? Talk and deliver on key issues affecting the U45s - don’t just pander to older voters.🏡👨👩👧👦💰
We’re calling on UK tories to do the same. We can and must deliver 📣
While the Labour Party have been nowhere on housing for years, today’s announcements could make their lead with young voters unassailable.
The Conservatives have months to act. We must deliver more ambitious housing reform.
🚨 Government has announced an end to leasehold for new homes.
📣 A win for NGT and many others calling for a move to freehold.
🏡 This will mean genuine homeownership for new owners. Your house, no one else’s.
📢 Voters under 45 are no longer turning to the Conservatives as they age - so it's time to speak to this generation's priorities
🏘️ Boosting home ownership and affordable rents
👶 Targeted reforms to the cost of childcare
💵 Lowering the cost of living for working people
.
@SimonClarkeMP
is well ahead of the curve on this.
Conservatives must realise NIMBYism is a terrible strategy for our survival.
We should accept the need for more homes, and can then debate where and how to deliver them.
Mid Bedfordshire shows that the Conservative Party will not win as a NIMBY party - and we will not deserve to.
A preview of my speech at
@ASI
tonight, as
@PricedOutUK
launch their important manifesto to make good homes more affordable.
Young people are frustrated because NIMBYs too often aren’t interested in finding a solution that can work for communities.
A training guide for NIMBYs confirms those fears.
The Telegraph should instead be setting out its case on how to fix the 4m shortfall.
🏠 One sub-section of society has become a lightning rod for righteous fury: Nimbys, but they can often be the last line of defence against greedy developers looking for a quick buck.
Here, we explain how you can be an effective Nimby ⬇️
EXCL: Rent rises should be capped for millions of people struggling to afford soaring rates, according to landmark report commissioned by Labour - by
@alethaadu
📊 New poll finds 2/3 of Londoners aged 25-45 will vote for the candidate promising to build more homes in their constituency.
🏘 Conservatives are being pushed further and further back in London - we need to build homes for these people. 🧵
Leasehold reforms would be very welcome in the King’s Speech.
Our medieval leasehold system prevents people from genuine property ownership. Commonhold would be a fairer system.
🏡Housing industry sources predict a Leasehold Bill will be in the King's Speech on 8th November
The claim has surprised some Tory MPs. Here are some of the anticipated proposals 👇
Boomers are the luckiest generation in history. Not our words - from the
@Telegraph
!
An average person born in 1956 will get ~£290K more in state benefits than they paid in tax. Many got rich from the house price boom. Working age people are poorer.
Conservatives should push for more of this👇. Gentle density development in our towns and cities just makes sense.
Better use of space, less pressure on transport, healthier and wealthier people.
The Canadian Centre Right is storming ahead in the polls. Their leader
@PierrePoilievre
shares our approach.
A plan to deliver on the big issues. Giving young people hope with a plan to deliver on housing, work, family.
This formula works, let's try it ⬆️
London’s docklands is exactly the place to build 65,000 homes.
London is the most in demand area, with the greatest productivity gains from more homes & lower prices.
Conservatives must be realistic. If not cities, then where?
🚨 71% of Tory voters back more social housing. 80% think it’s difficult for young people to access adequate housing.
The NIMBY consensus is crumbling. The next manifesto must include a bold plan to increase supply.
📈 The January budget surplus is good news for the economy.
💵 Any spring budget giveaways should give under 45s a better deal, through both tax cuts and childcare funding.
The local election results are a moment to reflect. The short term instinct to double down on anti-development sentiment is understandable, but it is economically and politically unsustainable.
Instead Conservatives should look to policies that increase urban density.
Poilievre’s Conservative Party now crushing Trudeau in the latest polls among 18-29 voters. Almost double the right of centre vote for Gen Z in Australia. Home ownership policies combined with cost of living pressures driving this remarkable shift.
Stories like Freya’s show why boosting housing supply can’t be put off any longer.
Even with a £50k deposit, she can’t meet the mortgage threshold to get on the ladder.
This is the defining issue of a generation. We need to densify our cities 🏘
This election shouldn't be about about young vs old, but how we can create a society that works for all.
If we are going to fund another big pension offer, we need to ensure the UK has the economic growth to support it - and that means building a lot more homes 🏘️
Why are we so obsessed with building more homes? This graph 👇
Building more homes:
🏗️Increases economic growth - £17.7bn per 100,000.
👨👨👧👦Supports families - Security and space to raise kids.
💰Boosts social mobility - by balancing price/wage ratio.
Thatcherism broke with the economic consensus. It smashed rent-seeking and made a new generation wealthy.
Applied to today, it means rejecting the enrichment of the affluent aged at the expense of working-age people & economic growth.
Build more homes, tax cuts for workers.
📣 We’re delighted to welcome Laura Trott to our group of MP supporters.
Join our campaign to focus the Conservative party on winning back the under 45s 👇
Taxes are high but we must consider how cuts should be prioritised.
More estates are in the inheritance tax bracket because of inflated house prices. Income taxes hit working people without wealth.
It’s fairer to cut income taxes over asset taxes ✅
As we head to Conference, we must speak to voters outside of our narrowing voter base if we are to win in 2024.

📣 We’re delighted to welcome London Minister
@scullyp
as a Parliamentary Champion.
London is a millennial city, where we have the greatest opportunity to appeal to aspirational young voters 🏢
With a General Election called for 4th July, we will be campaigning for Conservative MPs and candidates who share our vision for the future.
Delivering for working age people, building more homes, making it easier to raise a family.
Gentle urban density in Victoria. Many more people per square mile, but still beautiful. We should build more like this to fill in our cities and towns.
.
@samuelkasumu
’s story is like many other U45s in London.
His candidacy had the right message. Conservatives must recognise the pro-housing shift needed if we’re to win in London again. That means telling our base some hard truths.
@PricedOutUK
Conservatives face a millennial timebomb. Polling from
@ukonward
finds that just 8% of millennials think the Conservatives “stand up for people like me”. Younger voters are “shy capitalists” but want to see delivery on core issues identified by NGT 🧵
Huge congratulations to
@Blake_MidBeds
for being selected as the Conservative candidate for Mid Bedfordshire.
Blake was one of our first supporters, and will be a fantastic MP.
What is the
#GenerationalDivide
and how can Conservatives tackle it?
🏘️A shortage of housing has inflated prices for buyers and renters
👶Childcare costs have pushed the fertility rate down
💵Taxation falls heavily on under 45s
🚨Tackling the divide should be a Tory priority
The Conservative voter base has become too narrow, depending on older retired voters -
@OpiniumResearch
The strategy must be to rebalance our policy priorities and address the concerns of the under 45s. It’s better policy and better politics.
Cuts to income tax and personal thresholds are the right priority.
Giving a handout to the wealthiest 5% whilst increasing income taxes by stealth would be regressive.
Conservatives should support aspiration.
🌳The Conservative Party needs a revival. We must deliver for young professionals and working-age people.
📈That means more homes, lower taxes on work, and more support for families.
We champion that change. Support our work by becoming a member 👇
💥 Chair of Natural England calls for homes on the green belt.
Nature preservation doesn’t stop us building homes. It’s time for gentle density around our cities.
Without some taller blocks, it will be impossible to tackle the housing shortage.
We generally support gentle density, but not building upwards in central London is just unrealistic.
Today’s
@YouGov
polling shows that just 11% of 25-49 voters would vote Conservative if there was an election tomorrow
For Conservatives to win future elections, we must revive our message to aspirational younger voters 🗳
Thatcher and MacMillan both extended property ownership to a new generation of voters.
Once again there’s an entire generation looking for a party that will build a home for them.
Conservatives must embrace the economic and social good of new homes 🏡
This is Our Plan for Vauxhall & Camberwell Green👇🏽
We are focussed on;
🔵 Housing
🔵 Crime
🔵 Education
As a born and raised Londoner, I am passionate about ensuring that young people in London today have the same opportunities that I had.
I will fight for local residents.
The Conservatives have started selecting a candidate for Mayor of London. The candidate has a chance to embrace a new type of Conservativism: pro-business, building homes and vibrant communities. They might just win it.
We'll ask each candidate where they stand on our issues 🗳️
The Conservative case for house building:
🧱 Building more homes boosts GDP and fights inflation.
🏡 Society benefits when we have happier, healthier communities.
🗳 Millions of younger voters will back a party that’s on their side.
Childcare reform is a priority for
@Conservatives
to win the support of the under 45s
A report by
@ukonward
found that 30% of parents say that the costs of childcare have forced them / their partner to consider leaving work to care for their children 🧵
Right from
@SebastianEPayne
- income tax cuts have to be a priority over other tax cuts.
Conservatives should reward work and aspiration. This is the way to do it.
💰 What should Rishi Sunak and Jeremy Hunt focus on in March’s Budget?
✅ 1p off on income tax and raising the thresholds
✅ Stamp duty reform
✅ Expanding full expensing
⚠️ Inheritance tax for now

PM Rishi Sunak says addressing the UK’s priorities, such as a well-managed economy, reducing inflation and “stopping the boats” will “make a difference to everybody, whatever age you are”
The UK’s Conservative party is on the brink of a generational wipeout. The single most important factor driving this is the dramatic breakdown of upward social mobility
💬"It is not an overstatement to say that the extent to which the group succeeds could shape UK politics for decades to come."
We spoke to
@CharlotteIvers
on why the Conservatives must address the generational divide - the party's future depends on it.
Conservative leaning young people aren’t voting Tory.
The manifesto needs to focus on solutions for these working age professionals.
People want to be able to buy a home, afford to start a family, and keep more of what they earn.
The triple lock has become indefensible.
When living standards are squeezed and taxes are at a post war high, Conservatives have to be fiscally responsible.
At its current rate, pensions would eventually overtake GDP.
Conservatives are at their best when they support aspiration. As a party we must look outwards, helping hard working younger people who want to get on in life.
The balance of taxation already hits working people hardest, cutting their taxes should be our focus.
Labour voted against housing reforms for short term political gain - blocking 100,000 homes from being built.
Is that the behaviour of a party that’s serious about reform?
We need more pro-housing candidates, especially in cities with greatest demand.
Fantastic to see
@Chrissie_W13
run a forward
looking campaign in London.
The Canadian Conservatives are showing how centre right parties can lead on housing.
Going for gentle urban density in the UK would unlock growth whilst protecting rural constituencies.
We need more homes. Here's my plan:
✅ Fine city govs that block home building & give bonuses for those that speed it up
✅ Require apartments around all federally-funded transit stations
✅ Sell off 6,000 federal buildings to turn them into housing
Just 14% of 18 - 25 year olds plan to vote Conservative at the general election, according to our poll - but Rishi Sunak believes he can turn that around

The under 45 vote is an existential threat to Conservative chances.
We’ve rebuilt our offering before. To do so again our MPs and candidates must grab this challenge by the horns.
We must act, govern and speak for these voters

@Mr_John_Oxley
In the 1990s, a first-time buyer couple saving 5% of their wages would have enough for a deposit after three years. Today it would take them 24 years.
Building more homes is a social and economic imperative.
Ahead of the King's speech tomorrow,
@NextGenTories
have three policies to grow the economy and give young people a better deal.
💸 Ease the pensions burden on taxpayers.
👶 Remove the tax hit to working families.
🏘️ Build more homes and grow the economy.
A short🧵👇
“Gen Z aren’t lazy, they just know work doesn’t pay” -
@ElizaFilby
We take too much from young professionals. Taxes on work & student loans make it hard to build your own wealth.
That’s why cutting NICs was right, and abolishing it is the ultimate goal.
