Flex your lowest academic low score.
To remind us that almost everyone fails at some point in life but it isn't the end of the road. Just a memory in the end.
Mine was 27/100 in Engineering Math 2, just a year after I'd scored 99 in 12th boards. Much needed kick in my butt.
2 years ago I was ready to quit medicine, I was stressed, depressed and hating my F1 job on acute med. Fast forward over a few speed bumps and I've got an outcome 6 on my foundation programme 🥳
Just as I'd started getting excited about F5 travels... super happy though 🥳🥰
FYI if you're trying to accept the offer on oriel on your phone, rotate your screen (very stressful couple of minutes haha)
Would have been offered a job elsewhere in the country but unfortunately I'm not willing to move away from my partner and our house. Let's hope for next year
I got my 2nd choice Foundation jobs but didn't end up loving them as I thought I would. Things didn't go to plan I had time off sick in F1 and went LTFT in F2 did 2 extra rotations at the end. This is when I did A&E and I absolutely loved it and totally changed my career plans
Yes, I did spend my first pay cheque on a new bike with a custom paint job... what else was I really going to spend it on? I regret nothing.
@RibbleCycles
Try to leave on time
Take at least 20 min lunch break
Don't take on loads of locums
Don't do loads of QIPs / audits
NEVER come in on your day off for "experience"
Take all of your annual leave
Treat yourself to nice things
Keep in touch with friends and family
Currently debating pros and cons of taking a F4 year vs applying for training (broad based training +/- GP training). Leaning towards F4 as I don't know anyone who regrets taking F4 year but know plenty who regret going into training. Thoughts?

Seeing everyone's finishig F1/F2 posts and I'm just here like ...
Not feeling that stomach sinking feeling of usual as I know I'm in a good place and taking it my own pace
First weekend on call was a steep learning curve but felt a lot easier thanks to doing interim F1. Grateful to work in a lovely hospital with such a nice supportive team 💙
If I'm completely honest:
I'm too embarrassed to make eye contact with patients bedded in our A&E corridors, or waiting in the ambulance offload queue.
I suspect so does hospital executive teams, who rarely come to A&E, and when they do, rarely engage with patients.
Examples of what support looks like: consultant gives you cold drink whilst you discuss a patient you just clerked, F2 buddy texts you asking how the weekend went, F2 director on annual leave but emails us all to reassure us he's not away so still contactable.

I'm now a Mental Health First Aid champion 💪 I truly believe if we're going to do training in BLS, fire safety etc, training in MHFA should also be mandatory
I've made my decision, I'm taking an F4 🥳 it boiled down to 3 things mainly
1. Not wanting to take MSRA at the same time as moving across the country
2. Wanting to train for an ironman
3. Wanting to do a teaching fellow job
First day as an ENT SHO today, wish me luck! So grateful that the girl on the job before me went through the job yesterday over coffee. Benefits of a small friendly hospital 🥰
Getting my period back after being on the contraceptive injection for 2 years wasn't the most fun but equally I'm glad because it means I didn't trash my body irreversibly by doing 15-20 hours sports training a week for the past 3 years.

It was my 4th CX race ever, I forgot my skinsuit and raced in my dads bib tights and mums gym top, came last and loved every second of it!
Whether you're going back to placement or applying to medicine, I still stand by everything I wrote. I would also like to add that I love my job (so far) and the 6 year slog was 10000% worth it

Yep... Like how do they describe me? The loud one? One of the interims? The one that goes to bed at 9pm? The cyclist? The morning person? Or... The one that can't take blood? The annoying one? The one that makes too much work for everyone?
I'm moving to Dorchester!!!! Absolutely buzzing 🐝 to get one of my top choice job programmes with a CAMHS job and in a place I absolutely love... Looks like I'll be moving there and starting 4 months early too 😮 @…
I've seen lots of posts about

#thisisgoingtohurt
TV show. The main character Adam's one liners are hilarious and his portrayal of PTSD and the breakdown of his relationship is difficult to watch, Shruti was the character that stood out to me. *Spoiler alert* 1/
Today its sinking in that I'm leaving this magical place after 6 months. I've done my touristy shopping of local cheeses, whisky and chutneys and am packing up my room ready to go. I'll miss it a lot and it'll be a huge culture shock going back to working in a big city!
It’s time to bring the NHS into the digital age.
Labour will introduce cutting-edge technology to cut staff workload, diagnose more accurately, and get patients treated faster.
Honesty most of my hatred of medical training is this culture. I'm so glad I channeled by perfectionism and competitive spirit into sport as I believe it's a far healthier outlet. Let's stop elbowing each other out of the way and start supporting each other please 💕
Medical Schools:
Why are you students so competitive, everyone should be working together to reach a common goal!
Also Medical Schools:
Right so we're going to rank you against all of your peers and your position determines where you get to work for the next 2 years

Exam results don't matter anymore. Aim for the pass mark and no more and you will be happier, have a better balance and not disappointed. You may have straight A*s but med school exams are different and 50% is the new 90%.
20% of young people are overweight.
But 10% are underweight. Anorexia is a deadly devastating illness.

Despite never having a stress fracture I still have a huge problem with underfuelling and overtraining alongside a stressful job

Off to get a medical before any 2021 races 💪🦵
They say swimming in cold water helps with mental health. I finally believe them
No goggles, no cap, no wetsuit. Just me, a training float and a boss ass triathlete and fab teamie/bestie

1 in 10 med students experience suicidal thoughts. We are more than just numbers. Work life balance is beneficial for the whole workforce. Thank you
@TheBMA
for bringing in flexible training.

Think it's definitely different. I'm sure urologists have similar rules. If someone has a history of sexual assault/abuse they could find it very traumatic. Think it's more about patient experience rather than patient prejudice in these cases
Every day 😂 top tip no. 1: do not compare yourself to those who let it become their life. Top tip no. 2: there's nothing at all wrong with living a more balanced life where medicine is one of the good things in it but not the only thing 🥰

Endurance sport is rife with the idea that you need to weigh less to be faster. It's a dangerous idea that is planted into young and ambitious minds.
Had a bad day at work this week. Luckily for me bad days are few and far between but it got me thinking that a bad day in most jobs is wildly different to a bad day as a junior doctor.
#StateSchoolProud
I had an incredibly privileged middle class upbringing and went to a very good local state school. I was the only one to get into medicine and got no help with my application People often assume I was private schooled and I am always very quick to correct them.
Considering the possibility of going tee total for my physical and mental well-being. Has anyone done it? Any recommendations for non alcoholic beers, ciders or wines?
Sending love to those who have just been told where in the country they are going and which 6 specialties they will do. Keep an open mind and try to learn as much as you can and things may just turn out wonderfully different to how you initially thought they would

Yesterday: gave up halfway through training session, awful fatigue that got my worried I might have Covid.
Then I slept for 12 hours and now I feel like a new person.
Never underestimate the power of sleep.
When I was 17 doing work experience I was told to wait and do it as a graduate. I took a gap year as I wanted "life experience" before a long uni course. I still agree with this statement. Doctors need to be more mature and well rounded people
Strongly believe that we need to introduce a pre-Med degree in the UK which allows prospective doctors to live a different life before medicine. As a grad medic and a training programme director, I see the need for this more and more every day
