Hi
@AllisonPearson
, my cohort had a delayed medical school graduation this year. Just dropping you my grad photo so you can tell me if I’m British or not? x
Still can’t quite believe it but, yesterday that I was offered my DREAM job of an ACF in Paediatrics. Will get to do research I care about, work in a specialty I’m passionate about and be in a city I love. Feeling very lucky and very grateful to so many people. Alhumdulilah. ❤️
FiY-done with the classic Tommies photo 😉 so grateful to have been able to work with such fantastic teams and to have survived (or even, enjoyed?!) my first job as a Dr!
#FiY1
and just to round this up, unsurprisingly, I didn’t receive a response from her and was blocked (like many others who have questioned her comments) ✌🏽 badge of honour
as someone w/ major driving anxiety, imma celebrate the small wins: drove to work (first time today as working at the further-out DGH rather than usual hosp) and it went ok!!!
Guys, I’m starting my Paeds FY1 job next week, which includes wards, HDU and on calls. Am excited but at the moment, I feel my knowledge extends to ‘this child is sick - pls help’.
#PaedsTwitter
any advice, tips and/or resources you’d recommend?
very few things beat finding out we passed our medical school finals in Sydney... and then having to leave and cry down the phone to our families 🥳
#Alhumdulilah
So I’m a doctor now?! In these very strange times, GKT class of 2020 has graduated by email (congrats, everyone!). Now trying to control nerves (read: anxiety) for starting work a lot sooner than expected! 🤭
My points were:
-You can’t tell if someone is British from a photo (Just FYI, my nationality is British - my parents are British nationals and I was born in Hastings ✌🏽, my ethnicity is Indian)
-Does it matter if I’m British or not? (it doesn’t)
Graduated via Zoom today!! 🥳 while it wasn’t the graduation we imagined, it was v special and made me miss everyone SO much. Huge thanks to everyone at GKT who has made these six years incredible and thank you to the faculty for advocating for us even after we’ve graduated ❤️
Definitely wasn’t expecting this tweet to blow up - AP’s comments just made me ragy.
Thanks for all the lovely messages! I graduated online in 2020 and so have been working for the last two years - this was our delayed ceremony this summer.
Feeling very lucky to have been awarded an Andy Bush scholarship and to be at the
@LondonPaedResp
conference dinner. Met some very inspiring and *very* lovely people, reinforcing that Paeds is the career for me! Thanks so much to the conference faculty for a lovely evening.
Allison’s xenophobic comments and (incorrect) sweeping generalisations speak for themselves.
Free speech is one thing, but we need to consider *who* we are listening to/ who informs our opinions - does she have the knowledge & expertise to discuss this matter in the first place?
Do I pick when my AFP offer was sent out early and had to be rescinded (before being sent out again)? Or this year, when I (and others) had < 72 hours notice before an interview… or when there was no specified time for job offers and they were released at 16:45?

I thought that being an FY3 would mean I’d feel less sentimental at end-of-rotation.. 🥺
The most amazing, eye-opening six months with the *very best* team. I seem to have caught the PICU bug 👀
Looking forward to a relatively relaxed month before starting Paeds training iA!
Obviously couldn’t stay away from formal education for too long… excited to be studying a PGCert in Paediatrics and Child Health at
@BSMSMedSchool
during my F2 year! 🥳
Leaving Liverpool and my heart feels so full. Paediatricians are the BEST. Such an inspiring and engaging three days at
#RCPCH22
, yet again confirming I’m making the right career choice.
@_leilaellis
RCPCH 2023 to continue the tradition?!
#paedsrocks
can’t believe we’re halfway through this rotation already. someone will have to drag me kicking and screaming from paeds to resp (I rlly like resp, just Paeds has been SO good. resp will bring a harsher rota and COVID 😭)
On my final year surgical placement at medschool, our ward round was a female consultant, female reg, female SHO and male F1. One patient refused to believe the consultant operated on him and persistently addressed all questions to the F1. I wish this was an isolated incident. 🤦🏽♀️
Yesterday, I got the confirmation that I have clinically benchmarked - feels a bit surreal that I’m going to be a paediatric trainee in September iA! 🥹

Made it to the end of my first week working as a Dr and tbh it’s actually been great. This is down to our amazing ward team who couldn’t have been more welcoming. For every good week, I know there’ll be plenty of bad ones but for now, I’m going to just be grateful for this one.
Reflections on the last day of my (13-month) ‘F3 year’ - it’s been GREAT. A mix of rest, fun and clinical development in equal measure. Looking forward to starting ST1 tomorrow iA 👀
Does YOUR dept decorate their Christmas tree with team photos?! I am *super* sad to move on from Paediatrics and this wonderful team, thank you SO much for an amazing FY1 job
@thealexbrighton
. Secretly glad for the excuse of my academic block to keep popping back!
#paedsrocks
1 year to the day since I started my first job as a doctor and still very pleasantly surprised at just how much I prefer it to being a medical student.
Chilling at an airport and reflecting on an absolutely amazing month travelling around the Philippines. (& yes, beaches have been a common theme)
#F3life
Better late than never - GKT class of 2020 graduated today and it was actually a pretty amazing day. A great way to celebrate the end of Foundation training 🥳
I know this is tiny compared to you lot who manage half marathons/full marathons… but I just managed my first 5k run in MONTHS and it feels amazing. Nothing like the fear of a 10k lined up to motivate me…
Despite having done only 4 shifts and sometimes feeling like I don’t have a clue what I’m doing… GUM is a DREAMY FY2 job. Independent consultations, supportive MDT and +++education. Would recommend.
(ignoring the included medical on calls and nights right now 👀)
Thank to (admittedly not much) persuasion from some of the other F1s, after work today I went swimming in the sea for the first time in MONTHS and man, it felt so good. Also, definitely didn’t scream when I felt how cold the water was.
This is gonna sound lame AF but just got home from work and feeling incredibly lucky to work with such lovely and caring people. For the nth time, do I realllllyy have to leave Paeds?!
This is not a hot take but... going to work and seeing how much pressure everyone’s under and how patients are suffering because of it makes me SO MAD at this shitty excuse we have of a government
Not gonna lie, I am loving being single. My grandma, however, is catfishing on my behalf on a ‘doctors dating’ website she found on Google. Literally can’t make this up.
Hi everyone, I’m Isra, an incoming FiY1 doctor from King’s, and have recently joined the
@BecomingaDr
AFP team! Looking forward to hearing about
#MedStudentCovid
initiatives worldwide. Hope everyone is safe and doing OK in these stressful times 🐙
Take home message from Dr Dan Lumsden: children with medical complexity have enough ‘-ologists’ - their medical care is excellent, it’s the other bits we need to work on.
#RCPCH19
On the train home after a hectic, but fantastic, few days (and nights) at RCPCH conference! Feeling very lucky to have won a medical student prize and to have had this opportunity, thank you

Celebrating the weekend by having my first dose of the COVID vaccine - thank you
@BSUH_NHS
for making this so easy to arrange! A light at the end of a very dark tunnel - amazing when 1y ago, most of us hadn’t even *heard* of COVID.
Last day today at
@BH_SHAC
. Actually quite emotional. Feel so lucky to have had this job and to have worked with the most genuinely lovely and supportive team. Rotating sucks. 😭
#F2life
Worked the last 8 days out of 9 and my brain now resembles that of a sloth... but week 4 of FiY1 done! Pleasantly surprised to also have an induction timetable and rota for FY1 (which is now scarily close), thanks Brighton 👍🏽
Planned to keep working on the side (research, exam revision) during annual leave in Mauritius..
But I got over myself and ended up actually taking a proper break to celebrate a close friend’s wedding and explore this beautiful island
And I’m SO glad I did 🇲🇺
Today, I’m thankful for +++ supportive consultants, who text to check up on you and recognise when you need a chat. (I also no longer work in their dept 💛)
#teampaeds
Last shift of general surgery, last shift of FY1! There’ve been amazing bits, there’ve been shit bits, but overall it’s been a really enjoyable year! Wouldn’t have been survivable without the Brighton F1 lot.
So happy to be hanging around here for FY2 (starting tomorrow!)✌🏽
Congrats to those of you guys with SFP interviews. Echoing sentiments of many, many others but, if anyone wants SFP interview advice/prep, am very happy to help (academic F2 in Lon&KSS AUoA). Don’t feel you have to pay for it guys, there are lots of us happy to help for free!
Can’t strike today because I’m on nights (and therefore part of Christmas Day Cover).. but I fully support everyone who IS striking - junior doctors and consultants (and would be striking if I could!). Heartening to see us standing together 💛
#JuniorDoctorsStrike
#PayUsorLoseUs
feels about starting academic rotation tomorrow: excited to actually the time to do stuff that I’ve been trying to cram in alongside full-on rotas! also MORE PAEDS ❤️
