Michael O Leary talks plenty of rubbish, it’s not that long ago they were retiring from the game themselves. Davy Russell will be remembered as a world class rider. O Leary will be remembered as the clown who sacked a top jockey and about three unbelievably talented trainers

Sean Bowen has just won a race there in Ffos Las on Best Trition that has to be seen to be believed. You won’t see better for a long time, and Deutsch rode a good race on the second which makes Bowen’s ride even more meritorious. He’s simply a brilliant jockey

It’s a pity that there is not a cut off point at 2 to 3 weeks away where you have just one entry per horse. The same for every yard and it would cut out this nonsense of who goes where and when. One race for each horse and tough tomatoes if factors go against you on the day.

Stick on a pair of glasses and talk in a soft voice and nobody takes any notice. If certain trainers brought a horse to Ascot and it drifted as it did and then ran inexplicably poorly, then you'd hear the screams ten miles away. Clearly a poor effort was anticipated by someone.

In fairness luck doesn't come into it, as you make your own luck a lot of the time in this game. You put up these chaps and don't maximise your chances, well invariably you get what you deserve. Even after getting shut off, he looked like a weak 7lb claimer, all hands and legs.

Somebody should tell the jockeys in Clonmel that when Paul Townend has gone round the outside he had about 3 stone in hand on each winner. It’s a ploughed field and it’s as clear as day it’s not any advantage going wide, yet some jockeys persist in doing it.

The one thing that amazes me with some punters is that they think its unclever to bet a 7/4 winner and actually win, but very clever to back a 25/1 chance ew that finishes sixth. The logic being that anybody can pick a fav and the 25/1 shot outran its odds or went 3.6 in running

I’m watching Ray Dawson there in Leicester and he is a top level rider without a doubt. He’s strong , gets them from the stalls quickly and is tactically superb. In my book he’s by far the best jockey that Roger Varian uses. To me he’s as good as anybody riding right now

Big handicapping issue is the failure of powers that be to reduce ratings properly. Ascending on 131 is a joke, he wouldn't win off 113 and Ashdale Bob being given no respite either as he's no way dangerous in any handicap off 147. He's 9 years of age and going nowhere.

@SainthousePaula I enjoyed it immensely Paula, financially i'd say i just about won, but i did hit a lot of seconds and had my chances to win a fair bundle, but just couldn't get them over the line. The last 7 bets i had at the meeting, six of them finished second. No complaints though overall

The Champions League is a brilliant competition, particularly the last 16. The ridding of the away goals rule has improved it and would anybody think making the final a two leg affair, either home and away or maybe 2 games within 4 or 5 days at a neutral venue improve it ?

Now i'm not talking through my pocket in this instance, and i quite often do, but that ride by Philip Enright on Angels Dawn in Punchestown was absolutely scandalous. Easily the best horse in the race, there is no logic to not allowing for the possibility of a last fence error

The only problem Asadna had is that he wasn’t good enough. Loads of horses run with little niggles and win. He only drifted on the day and he was supposed to have this scare 4 days before that.
