Got reminded of this. Someone in my uni ZOOLOGY course had meerkats, large parrots, a gigantic boa, ducks, several Akitas, and MARMOSETS as pets. When we did the course module about the animal trade and we talked about how bad exotic pets are she went REAAAAAL quiet.

Ear cropping and tail docking is horrible and unnecessary for ALL reasons except when it is extremely rarely medically necessary. Yes, this includes working dogs/guardian dogs. I do not care. There is absolutely no research to support it for ANY of the reasons often given.

I live in Scotland. Cold is normal. Rain is usual. Going weeks without rain is VERY VERY ABNORMAL. All of our windows have been wide open 24/7 for weeks and we have electric fans running constantly to try and stop us getting fucking heat stroke. We are NOT used to this shit.

Our houses are so goddamn insulated here because we're used to harsh northern weather that freezes our fuckin balls off. This is already the warmest summer weather I have ever experienced in my life as far as I can recall. I have daily migraines BC of this shit.

This is not to say that these animals can NEVER be a good pet and that you are abusive or horrible if you have one (some exceptions to that tbh) but please just consider a domesticated animal. I promise you it is much easier and much better for animals as a whole.

@ttbone7 Same here :( every time people see me walking my ferrets in public they'll tell me about how they knew someone who kept ferrets that couldn't even be touched BC they were borderline feral and were kept in a little hutch outside constantly. And they think that's NORMAL !!

To clarify on parrots also, the smarter the species the worse they do as pets imo. The amount of abused African greys and macaws and cockatoos I have seen is fucking heartbreaking.
