Price might depend on subject
we think of hyenas and lions as having thin layers of fur but like
they have winter coats they grow when in places with snow
makes sense knowing the ranges of them and their relatives in prehistory
@Trey_Explainer
the british isles and ireland get their own school but everyone else has to chare with millions of other people with hundreds of other languages and just as many different ethnic groups
what an INCREDIBLY british way of splitting up the world
Might make me seem like a lame person but I don’t drink alcohol
And it doesn’t feel good when a big portion of being a social adult is tied up in drinking alcohol
PALEOART PSA FOR SHARKS!!!
a plaque is going through shark paleoart known as slackjaw where the muscles that hold the jaws close to the skull are unable to pull anymore
the jaws should be held close to the skull like in A
small? thread on shark extra-oral tissue as nobody else talks about it!! unlike with tetrapod extra-oral tissue sharks have a somewhat more diverse array depending on the various anatomies of different sharks
im putting my hat in the ring with the "anime girls are just derived catgirls" thing
large eyes and short snout might imply domestication but the fact there are no folds in the face implies this is a natural shape for the face and as such they are likely wild or at least tamed
Hot take??? But color changing in spec Evo is under utilized because it’s is extremely widespread in nature and not just in famous examples
Most fish can change color to some degree
Example: mahi mahi turn green when stressed
They are usually blue to match their environment
IT IS COMPLETE!!
a simple render of the complete megalodon skeletal based on as much knowledge i could get my hands on
to my knowledge this is among the most accurate megalodon reconstructions today
i thank everyone for the support in my endeavor to make this the best i could
Check out this awesome angel shark head that showcases the surprising amount of dorsal flexibility in the “neck” region; an important trait for a benthic ambush predator!
proper skeletal view of the dunk
cartilage should be distinguished from bone in these types of things
along with mulitviews
helps provide a good idea of the volume of the animal
Question: why do people reconstruct proto-whales with reptile or human-like arms? Where the tricep attaches close to the base of the scapula instead of along it’s length like other artiodactyles?
"we didnt know deinonychus had feathers at the time of jurassic park"
THEN WHAT THE ABSOLUTE FUCK IS THIS!!!!!
speculative for sure but
FEATHERED DEINONYCHUS 9 YEARS BEFORE THE RELEASE OF JP
ever wonder how sharks shot their jaws forward?
its with the help of this little structure behind the jaws.
the hyomandibula pushes the jaws forward and pulls them back allowing sharks to have extra reach when chasing prey
Imma be real here
Tierzoo sucks and his impact on scicomm has been negative at best
My take of the day
You can’t rank animals like you can characters because THEY ARE REAL AND COMPLEX THINGS
You can do that for characters because they are simple!!!!!
All the views and scale bars you could ask for
Top and bottom, front and back
HOORAY
Done in 3d but rendered in the style of other skeletals
Multiview and distinguishing colors for cartilage and bone
DUNK GETTING CRUNK IN THIS BI-
proper skeletal view of the dunk
cartilage should be distinguished from bone in these types of things

helps provide a good idea of the volume of the animal
@j_stocky
sharks can invert both their intestines and stomach in order to eject undigestable stuff
but if they cant do that they can eject the object through their body wall over time
part of my art trade with
@JayRock5858
my part was doing an in depth anatomical diagram for their centaurs which i had a lot of fun doing
these are primarily based off of their character talita
when i watched kong(2005) i always thought the venatosaurus' and V-rex were related due to similar skull shapes, body postures, and hand anatomy
its just the V-rex is a massive and more robust relative
and i like this take more from a spec-evo perspective personally
CLADOSELACHE THREAD (1/?)
as a header this thread is brought to you via help from
@EmuLarge
and
@TylerGreenfieId
on the research front
cladoselache's apprearance has gone under a few changes over the years (primarily due to well preserved fossils)
scientific names should be pronounced the way their original language pronounces it
scientific names arent english so anglosizing them is kinda bad form imo
looking at you centrosaurus and kentrosaurus
do you yall think dimetrodon could gallop like a crocodile?
its stance seems somewhat similar but im not an expert but the highly curved spine and crocodile-like stance makes me think it might be possible especially with the flexible posterior lumbar-ish section
Fuck it, posting it now as it is
Anyway here is the updated otodus megalodon skeletal
I had to redo the fins and spine but now it’s more in-line with irl shark anatomy
aight all the refs and planned models lined up
sachisaurus - orca
shastasaurus
xiphactinus
mosasaurus
basilosaurus
livyatan
megalodon in the background
The responses here are kinda driving me crazy AAAAAA
For those who don’t know
Fish in paleoart are regularly poorly reconstructed even when the tetrapods around them are well done
Sky has posited what it would look like reversed, accurate fish but inaccurate tetrapod
@prehis_wit_kris
As a trans women I’m gonna let you know the truth
It’s because you tried to pawn off a ai generated piece as a legit piece of paleoart
The paleoart community is an ART community and as such most of us aren’t fond of ai art
You cant get this kinda stuff from ai
I just realized that sevengills are kinda like the squamates of sharks in terms of the amount of gum and lip tissue they have
Teeth almost completely obscured by soft tissue
Aight avatar thread on how I think the original land pandoram creature had 8 limbs instead of six
These two mfs and their octopod shenanigans are hard proof in both movies to me
