Seeing this kind of affect being performed on tiktok is like seeing latin getting preserved through the church, nobody speaks like this anymore but there are some who still know how to invoke it for tradition's sake
Cats underwent significant behavioural changes compared to their wild ancestors and I don't understand the popular trend of minimizing their status as domestic animals
A disturbing incident out of Ashville, N.C. where a group of individuals were captured removing two bear cubs from a tree. Their apparent intention was to photograph themselves with the animals left one cub orphaned and potentially harmed.
Editing over cg movie screenshots is one of my favorite activities once in high school i convinced the Homestuck fandom they were getting a DreamWorks movie with a bad Peabody and Sherman edit
I feel like "if you can't afford the vet you can't afford the pet" and "pet ownership has become just another luxurious privilege more and more working class people have been slowly priced out of" are two conversations that should coexist
Clips like this remind me of the study that dogs with more expressive eyebrows had a better chance at adoption and those same facial muscles in wolves are comparatively tiny to non-existent.
We likely unconsciously selected early dogs that expressed emotion in ways similar to us
Can I stop being recommended these "dog rescue" channels that label learned helplessness as love lol. That stray is not enjoying getting pet Steve it's dog dissociating
I've witnessed family walk out of BBC Earth movie night because there's a predation scene and vehemently argue against deer culls to save our ecosystem because the thought of an animal dying is simply too much to stomach, and its impossible to reason them out of emotions
Feral cat colonies still typically prefer to stay near human settlements, even F1 wildcat/domestic hybrids have noticeably different temperaments than a purely domestic moggy
Also an inability to sign off on humane euthanasia of an animal that's suffering and instead letting them waste away because they can only see life vs death with no gradient of welfare in-between. Nobody wins.
If animals who "maintain wild characteristics enough to survive without human owners" is the definition for semi-domestic, then all these animals must be semi-domestic too. Why are cats treated so differently when defining domestication?
weird phenomena i keep seeing online whenever a bird that isn't a falcon predates another bird. fellas, polar bears eating seals is theoretically closer to 'cannibalism' than a pelican swallowing a pigeon.
(This post was 50% frustration at rigid breeding institutions that will prioritize rewarding type above breeding for better health and 50% depressed projecting my grief that i lost a dog at 2yo
One of the reasons i get upset is because i do really love the breed i'm not a hater!)
Remember that fairly odd parents episode with anti-cosmo and anti-wanda?
Hope you feel better
@itslittletunny
a wise man once said, 'damn that shit sucks'.
The Flaco ordeal got me thinking about the several times animal rights activists have "liberated" farmed mink where they promptly go on to die of infection, car strike, or acute stress. But hey I guess they experienced freedom or whatever
More things should be banned as pets. If you care so so much about cobras or macaws then go study to become a zookeeper or conservationist, you don't need that in your HOUSE.
For many people it's an ego thing that they own something exclusive/dangerous that others don't.
(the snake on her arm is a spider morph ball python, there's nothing wrong with keeping ball pythons as a captive species but morphs like spider cause neurological issues and shouldn't be selected for breeding)
I think between zoonotic diseases and the increased unpredictability or aggression from animals experiencing pain, affordable vet care is a matter of public safety
I think breeders who are willing to sacrifice even the slightest of type in favor of improving breed health and are willing to stand the heat for it are worth their weight in gold.
being anti breeder is dumb, i just wish more were proactive about their population genetics and COI
Anybody interested in animating or just studying dog locomotion should check out this talk by Dr. Martin S. Fischer (link in thread). His team assessed 32 breeds and compiled some really nice resources including animations on how dogs move
love the memeifying of panic attacks on movie twt rn i'm sure this will make people more open about their mental health moving forward and not ashamed to talk about something sufferers already feel overwhelming guilt for experiencing hahaha
Roelof Knol is a media artist and developer, mainly working with projection mapping to create visual or augmented reality interactive projected effects, like this interactive entertainment for cats.
Flaco could've potentially lived another 45 years under the zoo's care, instead he lived off poisoned rats and caught herpesvirus from sick pigeons that killed him in 12 months.
Recapture saboteurs did nothing to "free" him, they signed his death warrant.
