Frederick Douglass was supported by a Quaker family in the Summerhill area of Newcastle & lived with them for a time. We are proud to have a blue plaque commemorating him &
@UniofNewcastle
are naming a new building after him.
We’re amending the scheme due to the increase in traffic on some streets. I’m sorry that the initial version caused problems for residents on those streets & for the time it has taken to resolve it.

My priorities: Care: support welfare rights projects; Clean & Green: tackle litter & respond to climate emergency; Protect Services: make best use of funds & grow our economy; Speak up for residents; Support community & volunteering activity.

Shocked and saddened by the sudden death of a wonderful comrade, Nigel Todd. Nigel dedicated his life to making the world a better place. He was a committed co-operator who knew that change starts in local communities. His legacy and inspiration will live on.

We want people to be part of the development of the plans - which include looking at ways to connect to cycle routes. Good point that it would make sense to share thinking as it develops & invite feedback.

I've noticed the bollards too! And I'm completely with you on school streets & low traffic neighbourhoods. With all of these things it's about making sure they are done well, that way we get maximum buy-in.

It has no place in the 21st century.

Thanks for the feedback Nick. What we have published today is the outline proposal, we will be developing the designs over the next few weeks. There will be two lanes in the main stretch of the High Street with better pavements, seating areas, cycle parking & green infrastructure
