Dear Mr Fox,
Reflecting today on
#IWD2022
I remember that, as my GCSE science teacher, you told me I wasn't good enough to be a Dr.
You were very wrong.

Breaking News: All of Cornwall has gone into tier 4 lockdown after hundreds of pirates returned home to Penzance to celebrate Christmas with their families.
Apparently the Arrrrr rate has increased dramatically.
Eeek!
First day with the new rank actually on the shoulders as I learn the ropes from

More than 20 years in the

Feeling rather nervous bizarrely. I still think someone is going to tell me off!
@navy_women
Oh Army hospitals will be used will they?
@Peston
Do you mean the tented ones because we haven't had Army hospitals in the UK for maybe 20yrs. Plus our secondary care staff are embedded in the NHS already when they're not deployed.
Its Friday night in our 5th house in 10 years. This house has been here for at least 500 years, but it's new to us and we celebrated with fish & chips & champagne.
Congratulations to Commodore Jude Terry who today becomes the

serving today and a role model for all who serve and those who follow.
Can we please remove the word

from the British lexicon? It makes everyone who utters it sound like a 13 year old pixie with glitter hair riding a pink twinkly unicorn! 🦄🧚♀️

So much going on in life at the moment that I missed my 22nd Naval Birthday 🎂
I signed up for 6 years. I expected to leave after that first short commission.
22 years later, still loving it!

I thought I'd do my medical cadetship and the 6 yrs I signed up for. I just kept finding new & enjoyable challenges and 20 yrs later I'm still here with some amazing experiences and good friends.

A bittersweet night this evening. Staying at Fort Blockhouse which has the most stunning location at the entrance to Portsmouth Harbour.
It was my first Officers' mess. I lived here for a while.
My wedding reception was here.
It's empty, run down and is being closed in 3 wks.
@MilitaryBanter
Navy GP here.
Please call your unit medical centre. They will have an out of hours number. You're not going to get sectioned but you do need to talk to someone who can help you work out the way forward.
The Combat Stress helpline is also there for you too.

I actually think the Queen put me in the Royal Navy. Unless Elizabeth R is signing commissioning papers on behalf of God nowadays!
God has absolutely nothing to do with me serving my country, caring for my patients or loving my family.

All GP surgeries are open. They have been throughout the pandemic.
You may be required to be triaged over the phone or using an online system first, but if you need to be seen then you will be.

Awesome news - husband has been producing face visors for GP practices. He's done about 150 so far. His boss and work's social endeavour department are supporting by buying more printers so he can up production. Thank you

As an attempt at descriptive prose it reads like a teenage English essay. 3/10 must try harder.
As an attempt to be shocked over a non-event 2/10. Get a grip.
For the interested, this is what anyone who may fly in helicopters with the military needs to undertake; including our medical teams ergo may need to help medevac casualties at sea.

Some love it, for others it's hell on earth!
It doesn't matter what we do, or why, General Practice is forever a punchbag for some journalists.
31m appointments delivered last month alone. Think about that, 31m appointments for a UK population of 67m.
This is Ned.
He was a new Medic in my RN sickbay when we met. He told me he would like to be a Dr, so we talked through the options, he left the RN, got the quals for entry at Manchester. Plus, he found an awesome fiancé, rejoined the RN as a Med Officer.
Now he's Dr Kelly!
Morning everyone. I can report that bribing the children to stay in bed til 7am worked. Now for coffee and prophylactic PPI!
Happy Christmas from the first in our forever house!
Sir William Beatty's medicine chest is for sale and we would love to secure it for the

We're 1/3 of the way, but would like your support. Please re-tweet and donate if you can.

Wow, so much venom about women serving on the front line. 1. Women have been there for yrs as medics and other specialists. 2. Roles are open if the standard is reached. The standard isn't being changed.
I am absolutely delighted to announce that all roles in the military are now open to women. Our Armed Forces will now be determined by ability alone and not gender. This is a truly defining moment in the history of the Armed Forces.
Wish me luck

I cannot shout out how amazingly proud I am of my friend and amazing advocate for women in the perinatal period. She's been working on this for years behind the scenes and now has got funded postnatal checks for mums (not just baby). This work will save lives.
We’ve done it! Funded maternal checks back in the GP contract. Thank you to those who have worked so hard on it
@NCTcharity

Publish the DM.
People shouldn't hide their nastiness in DMs. It should be shared far and wide so we can all be warned about the person who who is bullying.

Isn't the point of the post that it's being assumed that the doctor will cover for missing phlebs? He's asking why it should be him.
Agree, it shouldn't be dumped on nurses either, & phrasing could be better, but we should together ask where the locum plebs are!... 1/2
We're quite proud of this bit of research just published! Short report will soon be heading to the single Services and

Can you train daughter's teacher next please?
She comes home yesterday panicking as he'd joked that he'd give a detention to anyone who did their homework at the weekend. They should be out playing at the weekend.

Every year, the UK's military welcomes between 20-30 trainee doctors 👨⚕️👩⚕️
But, with a different set of challenges to a civilian GP, how do these military medics train?
We spent time with them in Cyprus to find out 👇

This. All of this.
And can we please stop the detentions for autistic behaviours too?
Although giving my girl child an hour to read after school with parent collecting her so she doesn't have to go on the bus is more of a reward than punishment!
Fantastic week in Cyprus with the trainees about to qualify as GPs. Loads of prep for their new roles deploying around the world & in the UK. We've taken them well beyond the

tonight. No longer home, but still in my heart.
I now think that the questions for cognitive decline need to stop using the day and date. Lockdown means the date is totally lost on me.
To the point where FB has just told me that it's my wedding anniversary! 🤦🏽♀️😂
I have a streaming cold, headache, achy and temperature. PCR done last night.
I'm supposed to be vaccinating all day.
Why do I feel so bad for waiting for my PCR and not going to work? Years of presenteeism and working though illness takes a lot to undo from the psyche!
This is what is required after several days of a busy house, lots of cooking, eating and socialising. Even with good friends and family. We're all peopled out!

I doubt the consultant is going to spend the hour or so actually submitting the paper so the junior should just change it back when submitting and claim innocence /naivety.
The process for submission does rather mean it is easy for the submitting author to end up as first author
Had to stop in a motorway service station.
One less anti-vax sticker in the world now. The edge of an NHS smart card is quite useful to help scrape it off!
Conversation with my mum yesterday about Service personnel mental health.
She (retired teacher) told me (the military GP) that we had very high rates of PTSD.
I corrected her.
5 mins later. She tells me, authoritatively, what I've just told her!

Visiting ITU in west Africa, half the patients were eclamptic. The Drs said that 1/3 of the cases the mother or baby dies, 1/3 both die, 1/3 both live. That's life threatening in my understanding of a disease.

We inherited a large vine when we bought the house and got 17kgs of black grapes off it last year.
Finally got round to starting the wine a few weeks ago & first taste while racking off tonight.
We appear to have a rather palatable dark rosé with strong cherry flavours!
