50 years after tragic death of Jim Clark it’s worth recalling amazing leadership shown by his Lotus team mate Graham Hill. Helped at crash scene, then won next GP in Spain & 1968 F1 Championship. Sadly his son Damon @HillF1 had similar ordeal after death of Aryton Senna in 1994.

In 1985 I was Campaigns Officer for the Parliamentary Labour Party. In the Brecon & Radnor by-election in July that year I spent a day canvassing with two largely unknown backbench MPs, Tony Blair & Gordon Brown. Labour lost by just 559 votes.

@williamnhutton My uncle served in the parachute regiment & was killed aged 25 on D Day. I cannot presume to know what he would have made of the EU. But to me his loss seems to make more sense in the context of post war efforts of European integration. My mother now in her 90s voted remain.

Poignant moment for me on #PeoplesVoteMarch yesterday was walking past Hyde Park Hotel where in May 1994 late Labour Leader John Smith, a proud European democratic socialist, gave his last speech night before he died. Labour’s poll rating then was 44%, ahead of Tories by 22%.

Brexit theatre of the absurd. That ‘easiest ever’ ‘oven ready’ deal still not cooked as we prepare to impose sanctions on ourselves making it harder to import vital vaccines. In 2016 predictions like this would have been dismissed as ‘Project Fear’ now beginning of Brexit reality

In any crash scenario reduced speed cuts risk of incident or injury occurring. Supports trend of default 30 km/h where vulnerable road users mix with motor vehicles. @WBG_Transport have issued excellent note on speed costs. To cut deaths #50by30 cut speed!

On cars Japan & EU are already closely aligned through strong commitment to @UNECE 1958 vehicle harmonisation agreement. US isn’t which is why trade deal with them on cars will be much more difficult. Steep learning curve ahead!
