Every coach in the Bayside Conference should be pounding the table to get rid of the regional playoff format. It causes cannibalism and not competition. We are an afterthought to anyone not on the Eastern Shore, and our kids and our programs pay the price through under exposure.
@coach_mel_redd
Youth sports and parents. Toughest transition we see is from 8th to 9th grade. From practicing 1/2 times a week and grades/school aren't even considered, to practicing every day and being held to a 2.0 and staying out of trouble. Thus why middle school sports are important.
@coachkou
Some guys are super busy and I get that, but I don't care if you coach at a rival school, I am always willing to help however I can. It's not about me. I know that if I can help a coach, then I can help a kid.
@Coach_KBjr
It's more fun. Don't have to learn much (learning is hard), isn't challenging like lifts can be (being sore hurts), and they don't have to worry about those pesky run plays where they don't get to shine and have to block.
@ColeSwanwick
Gets downhill quicker outside of A-gap, harder to key in certain situations because of the lack of motion, better access to outside veer and lead, scarier if you have 2 dudes who can run or block in both directions, easy pass-pro if only releasing 3. (just some thoughts)
@coach_thartley
@presnapinc
Appreciate the explanation! If you could post it, or point me in the direction of any clinic talks/teach tape on it, I would love to see it. Otherwise, good luck this off-season, I'm sure you guys will be as dominant as ever.
HS athletes, you communicate your interest in competing in college to your HS coach through your actions.
Bad grades=not interested
Missing lifts=not interested
Not attending camps=not interested
Don't communicate=not interested
Eventually colleges will be not interested too.
If you aren't a 2-platoon team there is no "good on good" when it comes to scout.
Just mix it up. Even the odds. Create 2 practice teams and split your guys.
Your 2/3's need reps where they aren't getting trashed for long-term development.
Congratulations to our Strongest Links from our 2nd max! Those who refuse to be the weakest link in our program by putting in the time and commitment during the off-season. Some of these numbers are RIDICULOUS after only 7-weeks.
Get to know the name Zakai Smullen
@0mgkai
, Class of 2025.
6'3" fluid athlete with the speed and ability to play any skill position on the field. GREAT kid, good grades, and can do it on the🏀court as well (20.8 ppg, 7.6 reb, 3.8 asst, 3.9 stl).
High school programs don't need "recruiting coordinators", they need "advancement coordinators" responsible for making sure each player has an actionable plan in place for when they leave high school.
Introducing the 2024 Marking Period 3 Clipper All-Academic Team!
We're super proud of our guy's work ethic in the classroom. 29 total players with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

TOP NOTCH KID! ONLY 2nd year playing FOOTBALL. Baseball player with a mind for the game and progressing at a fast rate. Expect to see more next year.
It's Vick, and here's why. Tell me the % of designed QB runs for Vick, Lamar, and Cam. Can guarantee Vick's % is half of theirs. Vick came out of the under center era. It is not the same comp.
For the "you have to spill" crowd, here is good example of a box tech on a kickout block and the defense fitting the run really well. Defense sends the ball to where there is numbers advantage.
@CoachTManes
Route combinations. Most 2x2 combos include 1 vertical threat, in 3x1 2 vertical players is a higher likelihood which kills the Q's advantage of 2 on 1 vertical player in 3x1 (carry on
#2
in match 3) so additional underneath coverage is a plus.
@coachkou
Probably not, but wouldn't want them to unless the trainer knows how your team specifically teaches progressions or how you structure the passing game.
@Coach_Newsome
I give my guy in the box an if-then sheet looking at how the defense is playing vs certain playcalls so we can call complimentary plays and constraints. It keeps us on the same page and helps them understand the why and not just throw out every idea.
In the flow of this game, Fk Jet QB Iso was an expected play (my call from the stands), the TE leak was a great complimentary constraint though. Bravo.
If you're only showing up to "coach" on game days or when you feel like it, I'm telling all our guys to address you as "Mr. ______". You're either all in or not in.
(P.S. there's nothing wrong with volunteering, but don't pretend you coach, Mon-Sun is when the real work is done)
Until there are middle school sports in Maryland, GPA gatekeeping needs to stop for incoming 9th graders.
You can't expect a student to meet a standard they've never been held to.
Many never meet the standard and continue to stay disengaged from their education as a result.
Congrats to Decatur’s Brycen Coleman on reaching the 1,000 career point mark. This, two months after becoming the first player in MPSSAA history to throw for 1,000 career yards, rush for 1,000 career yards, and register 1,000 receiving yards. Also, this week, a new 4-star rating.
@JacquezGreen
A lot of these programs have been phased out and moved to specific "Tech" schools or are different departments within the school system. Then, they are gate-kept by acquiring specific GPA's and other academic/behavioral standards, stopping some of the kids who would benefit most.
@craigroh
As the DC I try to get input from everyone on my ideas, and our guys know that they can always come to me with their ideas. Hardest part is when you're working with a young staff with limited experience. Some guys just don't have the bag of tools yet and they need to be provided.
Congratulations to our April MCP's (Most Committed Players). These guys have been putting in WORK in the weight room this month. Expect to see some of the same names in our Strongest Links and 750/1000lbs Club groups once our 2nd round of maxes are complete.
@dustinwmills
My question is where is the disciplinary actions for the administrators for condoning hate speech by allowing the player back on the team? I would be surprised if the actions of the player did not violate the student conduct policy in a manner that should result in suspension.
As a coach, setting standards for your team to be successful is necessary, but you also need to set standards for each kid to achieve their goals. If a kid wants to play college football, but they are only eligible once a year, and you accept that, you aren't doing your job.
Drill Work=Scheme+Technique
Can't find that one drill to fit your scheme/technique?
Just make one.
Most of the drills we used this year were built off what/how we do stuff. I've ran across most of them on Twitter at some point at various levels.
Trust yourself first.
Wanna be a GREAT DLineman? Wrestling is 4 months of off-season reps centered around learning how to use leverage and gaining control of your opponents wrists/hands.
Had a nice meeting tonight. I can't wait to get back together with our staff and really get to work on the season. I'm even starting to miss the kids in our program who give you nothing but headaches lol
Success does not correlate with merits. There are two types of success, the one you define for yourself and the one others define for you. One determines intrinsic value and the other determines extrinsic value. Both are determined by if the perceiver likes you.
Thought on captains vs leaders:
If you had to take your captains out and introduce them to your community, could you say without pause:
"This kid is what our program is about."
OR would you have to say:
"This is one of our best players."
???
@BWKundert44
Sorta did it two years ago. Split it Box/DB's. Kinda do same thing with Offense. I do OLine as well so me and OC work together when it comes to run game or pass pro for new concepts.
Saw runs on 76% of our defensive snaps last year.
Hate it all you want, but this means 7v7 is important for long-term development regarding DB's and WR's in our area. If your kids aren't getting these reps in game, you have to get them somewhere to do your job as a coach.
If you're in the area, boost this please! This man and his players deserve all the help they can get. It's hard enough where we're at to find quality coaches.
Looking for good that’s willing to be apart of something special! Building an Offensive & Defensive Staff, along with Tech Support Team!! DM ME FOR INFO.

Wonder how many schools out there are missing on kids because they're shooting for the stars and not confident in their ability to develop or team build.
Also wonder how much if it has to do with HC's trying to keep their jobs because few are given the time to build.
You don't teach responsibility to kids by absolving them of all responsibility. Yes, sometimes it is their fault and they need to get comfortable with that before they're adults.
Know the set & rep scheme / tempo
🤝
Know the playbook / assignment
Funny how the guys who can’t get the weight room reps right can’t get the playbook right either.
@blitzologyblog
As a general rule, I like to Box B's and Spill C's because of the possibility for backside fitters to be unable to adjust and run over the top on spilled B-gap plays on tight angles and no run throughs. Also, one of my biggest fears is requiring overhangs to fold back inside.
@SpreadOffense
@FootballPlayCrd
Pin and Pull OZ w/ Boot Corner attached, eye it to see if it's there the first time and save it for 4th quarter if needed.
@dustinwmills
Heard on the radio yesterday morning the exact opposite was true for Washington. Ranked 132nd or somewhere around there on (I think) tackling efficiency on the year.
@StrengthDebates
Assisting through the entire rep is just dumb. Lift lighter or split the reps. You're technically lifting lighter if assisted anyway. Assist on a fail is different, and teaching how to fail without assistance is even safer. But learning to grind it out does have it's value.
CFB 25 cover should be every possible cover athlete for the game in the years since it's been gone. This is the only way. Pick up with just 1 starting next year.
Congratulations to these guys for putting in the work this offseason. HUGE jumps for some.
Disclaimer: No half or quarter squats were accepted during testing. Parallel or below ONLY.
Congratulations to our BIG Board members after our 2nd round of maxes! And those in the 750lbs club. Lots of young guys in the weight room putting in the work. 3rd round is guaranteed to provide some 1000lbs club members for the first time in a few years.
Winning is hard, and when winning is removed from a program's culture, you remove the work ethic, discipline, and character that winning requires.
It's not winning OR character. Winning requires character.
THIS! It's one thing to coach all your players for the next level. It's another to expect them to WANT to go. Have talks with your players. If they want it, great! Set standards and goals for them to achieve it. If they don't, help them achieve what they really want to do.
I know a little school in Davis, Oklahoma that set the record for reaching the state playoffs for 34 consecutive years. They run the Wishbone. They’ve produced Doctors, Lawyers, Nurses, Vets, and many other great people. There’s more to life than the “next level” in football.
