It’s the Mayor’s job to operationalize laws passed by the Council – including the plan to close Rikers. Adams kicking this back to the Council because the incarcerated population is too high is an admission of his own failure – it’s his job to manage the jail population.
@JCColtin

Mayor Adams says he wants a new plan to close Rikers from the council, since the incarcerated population right now is too high and it’s too expensive. Legally, the ball is in Adams’ court - he has to implement the law. But politically, he’s trying to throw it back to council.

Speed cameras make NYC streets safe, so why does Albany get to decide how and when they're used?   It's time for the State to get out of the way of our street safety and grant us the authority to implement the enforcement measures - like speed cameras - that we know save lives.

Brooklyn, you're the best. Thank you to everybody who came to my State of the Borough address last week. I'm excited to lead our borough through 2024 with vision, care, and love—the Brooklyn way.

About 1/3 of waste sent to landfills by NYC is food waste. Great to see @NYCMayor sign onto this pledge to reduce this amount by half. A universal curbside organics collection program would help us get there! @ShahanaFromBK @CMSandyNurse

Today, @NYCCouncil showed its support of Sammy's Law, which would allow NYC to lower speed limits without Albany's permission. Albany, now it's your time to pass the bill! We've been fighting this fight for years, but nothing's too much to make our streets safer for our kids.

Faster more environmentally friendlier ways of getting around our city, that's what we need more of! @NYCFerry 's new pilot program accomplishes just this: connecting #NewYorkers btw #BayRidge & #LowerManhattan in 1/2 the time as before. Check it out for yourself weekday mornings!

Join me this Tuesday for Brooklyn's State of the Borough at @CityTechNews at 6:45PM or watch it live on @BRICbrooklyn . We broke ground on a lot in year 1, but we're only getting started on the progress and growth I committed to bring to our borough. #BKSOTB2023

Joined @CMJenGutierrez , @MaritzaDavila53 and other local elected officials in #Bushwick to advocate for @NYCHA to fix horrible apartment conditions at 24 Humboldt. We should be providing high-quality housing to all New Yorkers.

On #IndigenousPeoplesDay , we remember the Lenape whose homeland includes what we know today as Brooklyn. We honor the contributions of indigenous peoples by celebrating their cultures, sharing their stories, and advancing justice from housing to healthcare today and every day.

Hearts are heavy in Brooklyn tonight after news of an NYPD officer in critical condition after being shot. My office and I are monitoring the situation. We stand in solidarity with the family as we wait for him to pull through.

As someone who championed against this policy, I strongly believe corporations shouldn’t have special treatment when it comes to parking tickets. (2/2)

85 years after Jewish life was upended during the violent horrors of Kristallnacht, we still grapple with the dangers of antisemitism in our communities. Brooklyn will always stand with the Jewish community, ensuring that #NeverAgain is not just a phrase but an action.

Congratulations @hakeemjeffries on not just being named the next #HouseDemLeader , but for breaking a barrier by becoming the first Black person in that role. It's a proud day for #Brooklyn to see our people and leaders continue to rise up at the national scale.

Up and down the BQE, our communities have come together to demand comprehensive, community-led solutions to the decades-old problems left behind by the expressway. I’m proud to be a part of the BQE Environmental Justice Coalition and this movement for clean air and safe streets.
