The morning after a bigot set fire to the pride flag outside Little Prince restaurant in SoHo, we raised a new flag.
Our community will not be intimidated.
Hate in SoHo: Last night this person set fire to the pride flag hanging outside Little Prince restaurant, causing the front of the restaurant to go up in flames. Anyone with info on this should call the Crime Stoppers tip line at 800-577-TIPS.
At 11AM we will re-hang the flag.

Tonight the Drag Story Hour protesters came to my apartment building and gained entry. My super called the cops and two of them were arrested for trespassing. This is pure hate, unmasked. If they think this is going to intimidate us, they’re mistaken. Our resolve is strengthened.

I knew Fabian Basabe from gay bars in NYC in the early 2000s and am rather shocked to learn he’s a ‘straight’ married Republican lawmaker in Florida who voted for the Don’t Say Gay bills.
Video is out of the people who vandalized the rainbow flag display at Stonewall National Monument. If you have any information about this incident please call the Crime Stoppers tip line at 800-577-TIPS or visit .
News Flash: NYC’s public transit from airports is a disgrace. Arrive late to JFK? Cough up at least $80 for an Uber or spend your evening waiting on deserted train platforms. NYC, we can do so much better!
Reading encourages skills like language and literacy, plus cognitive development and social-emotional growth, too. Thank you to Drag Queen Story Hour for bringing your program to Chelsea!
The map details plans for expansion that the New York Subway had in 1920. Everything in red was planned to be built in the next twenty-five years (by 1945)! The advent of the automobile brought it to a halt. It makes my heart hurt!
Congratulations to
@danielsgoldman
on winning the Democratic primary. I’m proud to endorse him & look forward to working with him. Now let’s fill buses with volunteers to swing districts in NY & PA to protect our House/Senate majorities. Reinforcements are coming,
@JohnFetterman
!
Only ~3% of New Jersey residents enter Manhattan via car, and their median income is over $100k.
We see where the political power lies.
Mass transit users come second, as always.
Today people who call themselves “gays against groomers” vandalized the hallway outside our district office. We will not be cowed. We will not be silenced. We will continue to stand up against hate.
We are unmasking the hatred that exists right here in New York City. This is one of the voicemails I received before they came to my home on Monday. I didn’t hear this until after the fact.
The comments on this post are vile and bigoted and make me so sad. I’m hopeful that one day we’ll look back at them and remark on how far we’ve progressed as a society.

Today I witnessed pure hatred and bigotry outside Drag Queen Story Hour at a public library in Chelsea.
Inside, I witnessed a loving and peaceful reading of children’s books to kids.
Warning: this video contains foul language and hate speech.
Friends, please vote between now and Tuesday. Electing a January 6 MAGA Republican - Lee Zeldin - would be disastrous for our community and our state. Fine your poll site at ✅
When I was 15 years old, I was involuntarily committed to a mental health hospital for a month, following a series of suicide attempts.
This treatment saved my life. Sadly, this level of treatment is unavailable to many Americans, especially if they’re poor or BIPOC (cont.)
Fresh kermit on the Ninth Avenue bike lane. Expanded sidewalks, protected bike lanes, and the water main project is (finally) over. Excited for this ribbon cutting!
We are banning toilet paper, paper towels, Kleenex, and other single-use paper products in New York City. 🧻 🚫
If anyone can pull this off, it’s New Yorkers!
This vile, nauseating garbage was handed out last night by neo-Nazis outside the first preview of “Parade” on Broadway, a play about the lynching of Jewish man. We must all condemn these acts of hatred and fight against any attempts to normalize this evil, anti-Semitic rhetoric.
We did it! DOT heard our voices, and is beginning its redesign of Tenth Avenue, which is currently like a four-lane highway with no bike lane from 14th to 52nd. It will soon include a protected extra wide bike lane, pedestrian islands, and other safety features.
At tonight’s City Council meeting Bayfront is moving forward. It is an 8000 unit site on the west side of Jersey City of which 35% of the units will be true affordable housing. It is a major milestone for Jersey City and I couldn’t be more proud to see this project finally
O’Shae Sibley was killed by a group of men for voguing at a gas station in Brooklyn. They used anti-gay slurs against him. He stood up for himself. They murdered him. This was a hate crime, and the people who did this must be brought to justice.
I strongly denounce the upcoming DSA rally in Times Square, where individuals are planning to celebrate the terrorist attacks and kidnappings in Israel. The planned gathering is deeply disturbing and morally offensive. This is what they’re celebrating:
Vehicles with illegally modified mufflers/tailpipes that emit extremely loud noise have been a growing problem. In addition to being obnoxious, excessive noise can be harmful to health, causing stress related illnesses, high blood pressure, hearing loss & sleep disruption.👇
First responders are on the scene of a collapse of a construction crane next to a residential high-rise building in Hell’s Kitchen at Tenth Avenue btwn 41st & 40th Streets. We are in touch with the FDNY on and will share any updates as we have them. Video by

One a day a week alternate side parking isn’t working.
Friends have confided to me that they never move their car, because 4 tickets a month is far cheaper than a monthly garage.
So the streets don’t get swept.
@NYCSanitation
raised this in our oversight hearing.
We need a new Penn Station, but we’ll never have the world-class train hall we deserve as long as Madison Square Garden is sitting on top of it. A serious effort has never been made to identify alternative locations for MSG. That needs to happen.
“New Yorkers are quickly losing patience with the status quo,” said Bottcher. “It’s past time that New York City catch up with the rest of the world and modernize our sanitation processes. We need to move faster.”
Observe the contrast between the vicious hate outside today’s Drag Story Hour, and the love and positivity inside. Awful that the families were exposed to it on their way in. Thank you
@NewYorkStateAG
for hosting this reading event at
@LGBTCenterNYC
today!
Great meeting with Congressman
@danielsgoldman
in his new district office in Lower Manhattan to discuss important issues such as immigration policy, NYCHA, the mental health crisis, housing, and more. Excited to have such a great partner on these key issues.
The term ‘groomer’ is absolutely nauseating. ‘Grooming’ is what child molesters and sexual predators do. And the term was used repeatedly by Council Member Vicky Paladino to describe my community.
@VickieforNYC
, we need you to acknowledge this is wrong & tell others to stop also.
The rhetoric being expressed by some students and others at Columbia University has crossed the line from legitimate protest speech to anti-semitism and calls for violence against Israelis and Jews.
I almost didn’t make it. But New York City’s community saved me.
That’s why I dedicated my life to giving back and that’s why I’m running for City Council.
Here’s my story:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: COUNCIL MEMBER BOTTCHER TO INTRODUCE LEGISLATION TO REPLACE CARS WITH GOLF CARTS IN MANHATTAN
Golf carts will be the only permitted type of motor vehicles in Manhattan, a major step toward making NYC the first “golf carts only” municipality in the USA
Sushi Tokyo on West 19th Street is a kosher sushi restaurant, a beloved small business (with some of the best sushi I’ve ever had) and it was recently the target of a vicious hate crime. An individual yelled ‘you’re a f—king racist’ in the face of a kippah-wearing Jewish server
This building at 23rd & Eighth will provide 180 units, including 48 permanently affordable units at the following AMIs:
19 units at 40% AMI
19 units at 60% AMI
6 units at 80% AMI
4 units at 130% AMI
Financed with the 421-a program
Today I took an oath to represent my community on the New York City Council.
Twenty years ago I moved to NYC without a job, an apartment, or a plan. I just knew I wanted to be here. It’s what countless others have done over the centuries. (cont.)

Bronxville is 15 miles north of Manhattan and has its own rail station. This is exactly where we could use 75 apartments. The suburbs need to contribute to housing creation - we can’t do it all in NYC.
In Bronxville, where Hochul’s proposal would mean creating 75 apartments, the Democratic local assemblywoman… said in the Yonkers Times, “Bronxville wouldn’t be able to accommodate so many housing units or even a fraction of the amount required.” —
As the Council Member representing the West Village, I support this project. There’s a ULURP process ahead of us, and we can make the building look great, but we need this 100% affordable housing desperately. Let’s all take the temperature down a notch and work together on this.
Don’t let
@NYCMayor
+
@NYCHousing
pull a fast one! Planned 388 Hudson St development’s affordable housing would be temporary, and would tower far above everything around it. We deserve better — PERMANENT affordable housing only, respectful scale + height:
New Yorkers are tired of living with mountains of trash on the sidewalk. Yesterday I joined
@nyuniversity
and
@UnionSquareNY
to unveil a containerized waste pilot on 15th Street, funded through the
@NYCSanitation
Clean Curbs pilot that we fought for.
Small (but sweet) victories. Ever since the extended "super sidewalk" was installed on Ninth Avenue, we've been trying to get "pedestrian" insignias printed on the pedestrian space, to make it very clear who it's for. Thank you
@NYC_DOT
for putting them down!
Today we’re unveiling a groundbreaking rodent control program that will harness the power of nature to combat the city's rat infestation issue.🐀
We’re partnering with wildlife experts to introduce a large-scale deployment of natural predators in the form of non-venomous snakes.
I want to let everyone know that the NYPD has been incredible throughout this entire ordeal, especially 10th Precinct Captain Robert Gault, MTS Precinct Inspector Robert W. O'Hare, and NYPD LGBTQ Liaison Ana Arboleda. My staff and I are safe and protected.
URGENT: Carriage horse collapsed in distress right now at 45 St/9th Ave unable to get up, likely from heat distress.
@NYCCouncil
@NYCSpeakerAdams
@NYCMayor
- the world is watching. This horse may die, like many others. We must pass Intro 573 to end this abuse!

The first openly transgender woman elected to the Montana Legislature, Zooey was prevented from speaking on the chamber floor when she refused to apologize for telling colleagues who supported a ban on gender-affirming care for youths that they would have “blood” on their hands.
44 (!) trips around the sun! Thank you so much to everyone for the birthday wishes. ☀️ I feel so lucky to part of such a loving and supportive community. 🙏
We are failing our fellow human beings who are suffering from serious mental illness.
During my campaign I released a mental health plan. We should pursue these common sense steps, and go further.
I’m excited to say that the curbside waste containerization pilot project is happening in HK! This is what we pushed for, because we know the status quo is not working, and we must try out new ways of putting out our garbage for collection.
📢 Horse carriages don’t belong in rush hour traffic! Today we held a press conference calling for the passage of Intro 573, legislation by
@BobHoldenNYC
that would replace horse-drawn carriages with electric ones and provide good paying, union jobs for the drivers. It’s time. 🐴
SCOOP: There will likely be no major housing policy in New York state's budget this year.
Lawmakers rejected both measures to boost supply and tenant protections. Assembly members were informed of the decision this afternoon.

I refuse to spend my time on the Council (and on the Zoning Subcommittee) lurching from project to project, only to produce a fraction of a fraction of the housing we need, with no target numbers, no advance thought to school capacity, parks, utilities or transpo infrastructure.
Statement from the Council’s LGBTQ Caucus. Our democratic government should represent the people, and its officers should be individuals on whom all New Yorkers can rely. Individuals with histories of anti-LGBTQ actions are not appropriate for senior administration roles.
This is absolutely disqualifying. Really upsetting that this reporting didn’t happen in October. George Santos should not be allowed to take office.
@ZimmermanRob
should represent this district.
The thing that really makes my blood boil about the Santos story is lying about employing victims of the Pulse Nightclub massacre. Using their tragedy as a shield is the mark of being rotted to the core by your lies.
Republicans are working to put Americans First and lower the cost of living.
Democrats are busy trying to ban toilet paper and gas stoves.
We can’t pretend politics doesn’t affect our lives, we need to remind politicians that they work for We The People.

I’m devastated to report that our friend and local political operative Jacob Priley was hit by an SUV while biking in Brooklyn last night. He is now in the hospital in critical condition. His family has flown out to New York City to be with him.
Today I went on the
@WNYC
@BrianLehrer
show to discuss our city’s mental health crisis, our sanitation crisis, my personal background, and more. Listen here:
After much consideration and consultation with family and friends, I’ve decided to announce that I am not running in the Brooklyn half marathon tomorrow.
We are excited to implement the FDA’s new guidance for a blood donor screening process based on Individual Donor Assessment, not sexual or gender identity. Newly eligible donors will be accepted September 18. To learn more, visit or call 800.688.0900.
Friends: I’ve tested positive for COVID-19. I’m not experiencing any symptoms (undoubtedly because I am vaccinated) and am isolating at home. Get vaccinated, get tested and be safe.
I’m proud to be an original co-sponsor of Intro 573, which would phase out horse-drawn carriages in NYC. After many stiflingly hot summer days in which horses have had to pull carriages in gridlock midtown traffic, we’re rallying in support of this legislation.
@nyclass

New York City is experiencing a sanitation crisis.
We walk around mountains of trash every day.
We are better than this.
In my new op-ed for
@streetsblognyc
I talk about the filthy conditions of our sidewalks, and what we need to do about it.

Tonight I’m filled with rage at everyone who didn’t lift a finger to help defeat Donald Trump in 2016, or even trashed Hillary on social media right up until the polls closed. You know who you are.
Here’s an idea: if you don’t like Drag Story Hour, don’t go to it.
@ABC7NY
covers the incidents in Chelsea yesterday when hate-consumed protesters tried to force their way into the library. I’m proud of our community for standing up and against vile hatred.
There are swaths of Midtown Manhattan, the most transit rich areas in the country, that don't permit residential use. The idea of commercial only districts is an outdated concept. We should strive for 24/7, live/work, mixed-use neighborhoods that are full of life, day and night.
More homes in the heart of Manhattan!
We just released a draft zoning plan for Midtown South, which would create nearly 4,000 new homes, 1,000 of which would be income-restricted through Mandatory Inclusionary Housing.
