Happy New Year, New York! I'm so excited about the future of the greatest City in the world, and humbled to be your Mayor.
Tonight, let's (safely!) celebrate. Tomorrow the work begins!
@FrancisSuarez
@Sarasti
In New York we always go big, so I’m going to take my first THREE paychecks in Bitcoin when I become mayor. NYC is going to be the center of the cryptocurrency industry and other fast-growing, innovative industries! Just wait!
It's official -- our five-borough, knock-every-door, reach-every-voter campaign was successful: We have won the race for Mayor of New York City!
This is my dream come true, and I couldn’t be more proud to represent the City that we all love as your Mayor-elect 🗽🍎
Incidents like this damage our brand as a city, disrespect New Yorkers and endanger visitors and residents alike. All those who participated in this reckless behavior must be found and held responsible to the full extent of the law. We will not be a city of chaos.
I grew up on the verge of homelessness, was beaten in the basement of the 103rd precinct, and was failed by our schools that never diagnosed my dyslexia.
Now, I'm going to be Mayor of the greatest city in the world.
Let's get to work, New York.
This is what happens when the MTA makes bad spending decisions for decades. We need congestion pricing $ ASAP to protect stations from street flooding, elevate entrances and add green infrastructure to absorb flash storm runoff. This cannot be New York.
I grew up poor in Brooklyn & Queens. I wore a bulletproof vest to keep my neighbors safe. I served my community as a State Senator & Brooklyn Borough President. And I'm honored to be the Democratic nominee to be the Mayor of the city I've always called home.
Thank you, New York!
It’s official: CityCoins are coming to the Big Apple 🍎
Last week, NYC’s Mayor-elect
@ericadamsfornyc
said that he wants to have a CityCoin for NYC like Miami's.
This week the CityCoins community is responding by activating NYCCoin mining!
I've just been informed that Mr. Sliwa was struck by a yellow cab while out campaigning today, and is being treated at Lenox Hill hospital. I'd like to wish him a speedy recovery, and I hope to see him back out on the trail this weekend.
Today on Yom Yerushalayim, Israel came under attack from Hamas-fired rockets in Gaza. Israelis live under the constant threat of terrorism and war and New York City's bond with Israel remains unbreakable. I stand shoulder to shoulder with the people Israel at this time of crisis.
As always, Trump gets it wrong.
Yesterday, the results released by the BOE had discrepancies which are being addressed. There were NO similar issues in November. Neither of these elections were a hoax or a scam.
We need to count every vote. That takes time, and that's ok.
Our members of Congress in NY stood together for NYers to pass critical legislation that saved NYC from disaster during COVID—and now we need them to unite again & vote for our subways, buses, trains & roads to get our city moving again. Let’s get the infrastructure bill done.
It is with a full heart and a clear-eyed, hopeful vision for the future that I humbly accept the title of New York City Mayor-elect.
To every supporter, endorser, volunteer & voter who made this possible: Thank you, from the very bottom of my heart, for placing your trust in me.
Let me be clear: NYC is going to follow the science as we continue to fight COVID. We won't go back to shutdowns.
I also hope it will be safe enough by the end of the school year to lift mask mandates in schools so kids can see each other’s smiles again.
"The city grew by about 630,000 from 2010 to 2020... But the number of housing units in the five boroughs increased by only 206,000"
You don't need a calculator to understand that this is a huge problem. We have a housing supply crisis.
I had a great time stopping by
@ColbertLateShow
last night to talk about police reform, New York's future, and how we're going to make New York City the coolest place on the globe again.
Thanks for having me,
@StephenAtHome
!
Workers deserve respect every day, but especially today on one of the busiest days of the year.
If you're heading out to hit the Black Friday sales, please remember to stay respectful and say thank you to the folks who make it all happen.
Many of the answers to the issues we face can be found abroad, whether it's in Europe, Asia, Africa, or South America. As Mayor, we're going to find the cities doing things best and learn from them -- no matter where in the world they are.
We need an Attorney General who will stand up to anyone who harms New Yorkers, no matter how powerful they might be.
Attorney General
@TishJames
has the courage and experience to deliver for NY. I am proud to endorse her for re-election.
#TeamTish
I came to Ghana with the intention of returning to find my roots. I want to thank the Akwamufie traditional council who performed a spiritual cleansing and offered blessings for a successful tenure as Mayor for being such a powerful part of this spiritual journey.
Today, I stood in Times Square at the site of Thursday’s anti-Semitic attack and added my voice to the chorus of New Yorkers speaking out against hatred & violence.
Every New Yorker, regardless of race or religion, deserves to feel safe in our City.
We know Asian communities are facing increased violence right now. It's not enough to simply declare hate has no home in NYC -- we must work to end it. I stand with Asian NYers today & every day.
If you have info on this attack, call (800) 577-TIPS.
I ran for Mayor on a promise: I will never ask NYers to decide between the safety we need & the justice we deserve.
I'm incredibly proud that Chief Keechant Sewell, a Queens native, will be working with me every day to deliver on that promise as the next
@NYPDnews
Commissioner.
PROGRAMMING ALERT:
Watch
@ericadamsfornyc
be sworn in as the 110th Mayor of the City of New York in
@TimesSquareNYC
live after midnight tonight on:
🐦
📱
👩💻
The polls are officially closed in NYC.
To our supporters, volunteers & endorsers of all backgrounds, faiths & from every corner of NYC: Thank you, from the very bottom of my heart, for being a part of our team.
Tonight, we celebrate -- because tomorrow, the real work begins!
"Power in America’s largest city has changed hands."
Knowing NYers struggles isn't enough -- I've lived them. Working-class communities, communities of color, & immigrant communities made me the man I am, & they elected me Mayor. This is their government.
To everyone who supported us, volunteered for us, organized for us, and poured their hearts and souls into this race: Thank you, thank you, for being a part of this movement.
We’ve run a campaign that we can all be immensely proud of -- now, let's celebrate!
New York is the greatest city in the world, but that doesn't mean we can't be better. As Mayor, I'm going to work to make sure our school calendar reflects the diversity of our students -- and that means Diwali should be a school holiday.
We need fewer people carrying guns -- not more.
Overturning New York's gun control laws would make our streets less safe, and I hope the Supreme Court makes the right decision.
If anyone has more information on this horrific assault, I encourage you to please contact the NYPD Crime Stoppers unit at (800) 577-TIPS. Our City must do more to prevent these violent, anti-Semitic attacks against our Jewish neighbors.
One week ago tonight, my mother's dream came true and I became the next Mayor of New York.
I'm as grateful to everyone who put their trust in me now as I was last week. Thank you for being a part of this journey as we work together to create a better New York for all of us.
We must do more to incentivize NYers to shop locally. That's why I have a plan to create Tax-Free Tuesdays, a weekly sales tax holiday on services & products that are more likely to be paid for in-person to incentivize NYers to spend locally. Learn more ⬇️
When I become Mayor, don’t be surprised to see me riding my bicycle to work! 🚴♂️
As a cyclist, I know how intimidating our streets can be -- that’s why I’m going to partner with advocacy groups like
@StreetsPAC
to ensure that our streets are safe and accessible to all.
“He said ‘Bro.’ Red flag.”
Our kids should never be in a position where they’re trying to determine whether a voice on the other side of a door is an officer coming to rescue them or a shooter trying to kill them.
A student from inside Oxford High School captured this footage of the possible shooter trying to get into the classroom by impersonating a sheriff
The students did not open the door and escaped through a window
Heard
@eatplantega
was on a mission to bring healthy foods to more NYC communities and that they created a wrap in my honor -- so naturally I had to stop by on Wednesday and try the Mayor’s Wrap and fuel back up after a long campaign!
NYC mayor-elect Eric Adams: "65% of black and brown children don't read [proficiently] in New York City. We have rats that are running, [...] not picking up the garbage, public safety is really a real problem. [...] We need to get back to the basics."
Right now, we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reimagine our education system to fix the entrenched inequalities that hold too many children back.
I’m proud that
@realdavidcbanks
will be the next NYC Schools Chancellor trusted to make better schools a reality.
Since day one of this campaign, I’ve been a strong proponent of rezoning as one solution to our city’s affordable housing crisis. Through rezoning, we can ensure that low- and middle-income New Yorkers have access to the resources needed to thrive.
NYers deserve safety & justice, & we can't compromise on either.
@KathyHochul
is the only candidate for Gov who will stand up to extremists & back common sense gun laws that keep our communities safe. She's the partner I need & that's why I'm proud to support her.
#NYGovDebate
There can be NO tolerance for anti-Semitism in our city.
This hate crime must be swiftly & thoroughly investigated & the guilty brought to justice. Hate has no place here. All races & religions must feel safe in NYC & we must be a model of diversity for the world.
The Hate Crime Task Force is investigating a gang assault of a Jewish man in Times Square that happened this evening. If you have any information on any of the participants, DM us or call
@NYPDTips
1-800-577-TIPS. We will post more information as it becomes available.
This is at least the fourth time in as many months that shots have been fired in Times Square. If people can’t feel safe in Times Square, they won’t feel safe anywhere in our City -- and our recovery will suffer because of it.
A member of Team Adams -- who has been working hard & volunteering every day -- was stabbed in the Bronx today @ 149th St & Morris Ave. The police are investigating & he’s in surgery. If you have any info, please call 800-577-TIPS. We pray for him. This violence must stop.
Had the privilege of meeting with
@nissimblack
and learning more about where the inspiration for his music comes from. It was great talking with you, brother!
Outdoor dining kept small businesses afloat and NYers employed during the pandemic. It brought new life to our city during a dark time.
I was glad to see the program extended last fall, and I'm glad that it's another step closer to being made permanent.
Met with the moving crew moving us out of Borough Hall today.
Good luck,
@ReynosoBrooklyn
! I’m looking forward to working with you to deliver for working families!
Our small businesses -- the delis and restaurants, shops and galleries, studios and gyms, and so many more -- make New York the greatest city in the world. Today on
#SmallBusinessSaturday
, we're celebrating them.
Get out there and support your favorites, NYC!
There are so many folks I need to thank, but tonight I want to thank the voters of NYC.
Regardless of if I was your 1st choice, 5th choice, or not on your ballot, thank you. I'll be proud to work with you, for you, & alongside you as we work towards a better future.
This investment is urgently needed to get our subways, buses, and commuter rail lines back on track, and I commend Senator
@ChuckSchumer
for always fighting to put New Yorkers first!
What are we doing right now to protect our babies?
What are we doing right now to make sure that an ordinary trip to the bodega doesn't become our child's last?
We need a leader who can get serious about the violence happening on our streets every day.
Safety cannot wait.
Today, the Supreme Court heard arguments to the biggest threat to reproductive rights in decades.
Let me be clear: In NYC, we recognize the right to a safe, legal, and accessible abortion. That won’t change as long as I’m Mayor.
Every overdose death is a tragedy - & we can do more to prevent them. That's why I'm going to establish more overdose prevention centers that include wraparound services like counseling, healthcare, & supportive housing.
Our neighbors' lives depend on it.
For someone who was not even born on 9/11, from another country, to have the grace to honor our great city in such a moment is inspiring. New York honors you tonight
@leylahfernandez
. Thank you.
Today, I'm sharing my story like I’ve never told it before:
It starts right here in NYC, growing up poor & on the brink of eviction. Then at 15, I was the victim of police brutality -- but instead of accepting things as they were, I was determined to change them.
I’m urging all NYC residents to vote yes on PROP 1: The Clean Water, Clean Air and Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act.
Clean water and clean air are on the back of ballot this year. I need all of you to flip your ballot and vote yes on prop 1!
It shouldn't be a surprise that when we have good, safe bike lanes, more people will choose to bike (I know I do!). Let's keep making our city more bike-friendly!
Our administration is charting a course for a truly equitable recovery uplifting all of us, from building top-flight schools and empowering our immigrant neighbors to reviving our tourism sector and supporting our small businesses. We are fully prepared to hit the ground running.
After a day filled with overwhelming kindness from New Yorkers and heartfelt congratulatory messages, I want to take a step back and express my deep, sincere gratitude for all those who made this victory possible.
Stand UP, New York City! Our
@NYCFC
is on the way to their first-ever
#MLSCupPlayoffs
final!
Congratulations to our boys in blue for winning the Eastern Conference
#ForTheCity
.
Now who's up for cutting some
@TimbersFC
down to size in Portland?!
#VamosNYC
!
This is the right decision and is in the best interest of all New Yorkers.
I stand ready to work with incoming Governor
@KathyHochul
as we guide our City through these challenging times and do the hard work of leading a safe, equitable recovery for NYC.
For us to ensure that NYC recovers quickly while addressing the inequalities that plagued us well before COVID-19 struck, we must have top leadership that can both deliver for and is representative of New Yorkers.
I'm proud to introduce 5 history-making Deputy Mayors today.
After weeks of hearing from incoming Council Members and leaders I trust across New York, I am convinced that Adrienne Adams will be the best choice to lead our City Council forward, and I believe she has the support to do it.
5- to 11-year-olds can now safely get the COVID-19 vaccine, but I know that many parents still have questions about how to best keep their families safe. Pediatricians have answers:
New York City has always been the city that never sleeps, and it's time we get back to it.
But this isn't just about having a good time -- it's about driving down crime, supporting our economy, and keeping workers employed.
WEDNESDAY: New York City mayor-elect
@ericadamsfornyc
joins
#TheView
co-hosts LIVE to weigh in on the latest headlines and share his plans for the city once he takes office.
I’m sending strength & heartfelt prayers to all who are mourning the loss of a beloved family member, cherished colleague, trusted neighbor, or dear friend on September 11th.
Today, we grieve as one City -- and in grieving together, we lighten our sadness & lift each other up.
We have to rebuild trust between the police and the community -- and having officers out in the community will help keep kids out of trouble, families safe, and strengthen communities.
It took a shooting in Andrew Yang’s backyard for him to wake up and discover there was a crime problem, and to stand up to gun violence. It is good that now he sees the light and is adopting parts of my plan—but let’s be clear, that’s not leadership, that’s showmanship.
