Brooke Nevils is a credible young woman of good character. She came to NBC News an eager and guileless 20-something, brimming with talent.
I believe she is telling the truth. And that breaks my heart.
Once saw Aretha Franklin say mid-concert, “How about we let our hair DOWN,” then take off her hairpiece, place it on her piano and blast out a song that had the audience on its feet screaming with delight. You were REAL, AUTHENTIC and GENEROUS Queen Aretha. Thank you.

Derek Chauvin has been found guilty on all counts in the death of George Floyd. His bail is revoked. He’s being taken into custody. Sentencing in 8 weeks.
WHERE am I? A TSA agent just called me “Honey,” another smiled “Have a wonderful day.” And everybody seems REALLY kind and nice.
Oh that’s right, I’m in Grand Rapids, Michigan, at Gerald R. International Airport. ❤️

Thinking of Americans, known and unknown, who loved our nation’s ideals enough to fight for them. To you I bow my head and will raise a glass on this, our nation’s 242nd birthday. Happy 4th of July.

We’ve all got to work together, share verifiable information and help each other. Politics and misinformation need to take a backseat.
I’m so frustrated right now ... that we can’t trust the media to tell us the truth without inflaming it to hurt Trump ... that Trump has misled so many times we no longer know when to trust his word ... that even I as a journalist am not sure where to turn for real info on COVID.
Me: “Dad, what should I be when I grow up?”
Dad: “Well, whatever you do, do something of some service to other people, because then and only then will you know on your last day, breathing your last breath that it mattered you were born.”

Our children are watching.
Tonight might be a good time to talk to them about why democracy is precious and so vulnerable when lies are allowed to spread unchecked.
America will rise again, if we learn from this day and ACT together to rebuild truth and trust.

I have a little trick that helps me when I’m stressed: Inhale through your nose. Exhale through your mouth. Inhale through your nose and hold your breath to the count of 8. Repeat.
Maybe it will help you too. Goodnight everybody. Sleep well.
As much as I have loved you, why only now do I truly understand what a stunningly brave and beautiful woman you were?

This BBC reporter was interviewing a family of migrant workers.
They'd been walking for days just to get home.
During the interview, he saw the man had no shoes. So he took off his own — and gave them to him.

was royally screwed & deserves the most epic comeback of all time. I’d run into fire for her, drive her around as she eggs NBC execs, or work for her presidential campaign.
Every day, this elderly woman says "hello" to school kids as they pass by her house. When they found out their beloved neighbor was moving, hundreds of kids left school to give her one last "goodbye."
Good morning. Steady as she goes.
Biden pulled ahead in Georgia and Pennsylvania this morning, but the counting continues.
We will know when a candidate reaches 270.

Truth, and therefore trust, are on their knees. Supporting local papers is key.
Restoring a Fairness Doctrine might also be required as
@FoxNews
@MSNBC
and
@CNN
too often fail to meet basic journalism standards.
There are 3 problems with our media that are fueling polarization: 1. The closing of 2,000 local papers, which are typically not very partisan; 2. Cable news maximizing audience share by adopting political stances (Fox); and 3. Social media’s supercharging of conspiracy theories.

Hello Saturday. Biden leads in 4 key states, but neither candidate has reached 270.
In a race this close, it’s prudent to stay patient. More updates are expected today, but as they say, “when the pear is ripe, it will fall from the tree.”
Time to take a walk.
Thank you for telling me. Very touching. I lost my father too and tell you this: our parents never truly leave us. They still keep telling you what to do, whether you like or not. XO

Your confusion is understandable. Yes there was a vote. The Senate Judiciary committee approved Kavanaugh’s nomination with Senator Flake saying he would vote yes to pass it out of committee to the full Senate, but could vote no there, unless the FBI investigates.

Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was the immediate target of the assassins. But the other objective was to kill President-elect Biden’s plans to revive the Iran nuclear deal. My news analysis, in the Sunday print editions of the Times.

A good rule of thumb in journalism especially in this moment, is to ask questions of people who would know the answers. When we report information from people who have no way of knowing, we contribute to confusion.
