I have been assigned as the CSA backup astronaut for the
#Artemis
II mission. I can’t wait to contribute to this historic mission, and to train alongside
@Astro_Jeremy
and the crew.
Thank you for all the kind messages over the past two days regarding my assignment as the CSA backup astronaut for the Artemis II mission. I’m excited to contribute my expertise to preparing for this and future Artemis missions.
Yesterday was such a big day! It is an honour to back up Jeremy Hansen on the
#Artemis
II mission. I can’t wait to work on defining and developing the procedures and architecture required for humanity’s return to the Moon. Learn a bit more about me:
Thank you for the incredible support over the past few days! I am very fortunate to be involved in the Artemis program as the backup astronaut for my friend and colleague Jeremy Hansen on Artemis II. I’ve hit the ground running with my training, starting with my suit fit.
Happy birthday to the wonderful Canadian-American
@Astro_Feustel
, current commander of the
@Space_Station
! Drew has been bringing
#space
closer to the world his entire career. Have a great day up there, buddy 👋🇨🇦🇺🇸. 📸
@NASA
So many dedicated people have worked so hard to bring crewed launches back to Cape Canaveral. I’m hoping for favourable weather today as
@AstroBehnken
and
@Astro_Doug
are scheduled to launch to the
@Space_Station
. Go Dragon! Follow along here:
@NASA
This suit will be my life support system in upcoming training and, eventually, in
#space
. Thank you to the amazing team at the
@NASA
Neutral Buoyancy Lab for suiting me up today! It takes an village, you know...
@asc_csa
🇨🇦
I had my first ever T-38 jet flight today! An amazing experience to train well above 30,000 ft, go
#supersonic
, and view
#Houston
from above. We even saw Super Guppy out and about during our flight.
@csa_asc
49 years ago, astronauts walked on the
#Moon
for the first time. Yesterday, I started my spacewalk training in the
@NASA
Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory. It was no moonwalk, but it brought me one (small) step closer to the most exciting adventure. I had a blast!
.
@AstroBehnken
and
@Astro_Doug
are suited up, strapped in their seats and ready to be welcomed by the crew aboard the
@Space_Station
. Watch
@SpaceX
’s Dragon Endeavour spacecraft make its way to our orbiting laboratory:
Despite a busy training schedule for both of us,
@Astro_Kutryk
and I still find time now and then to fly together. Flying in the T38 provides us with an opportunity to practise our crew coordination and piloting skills. This is our view over the Gulf Coast from 8,500 metres.
Experience flying the T-38 is an essential part of training to fly in
#space
. This supersonic aircraft provides exposure to challenging situations in which quick thinking and critical decision making are necessities. I can’t wait to get started.
Enormously proud to see my colleague and friend selected to represent
#Canada
on
#Artemis
II. What an outstanding opportunity for our corps, space sector, and country. Ad Astra!
Representing the
@csa_asc
on
#Artemis
II to the Moon is
@Astro_Jeremy
, from London, Ontario.
Jeremy Hansen was a fighter pilot before joining CSA, and currently works with NASA on astronaut training and mission operations. This will be Hansen’s first mission in space.
Ever wonder how they get those amazing shots of your home town from the
#ISS
? Check out the photography rig they have on board, complete with an 800 mm lens. The camera body has to be changed out every 12 to 18 months due to radiation damage 📸
This week I’m learning about the past and future of
#spaceflight
at Kennedy Space Centre. I’ve never been anywhere which so meaningfully transforms the powerful history of human spaceflight into the momentum we need to explore new frontiers.

Check out this Soyuz-solar eclipse as the
#rocket
for MS-12 is raised to its starting position. In two days, when
@Astro_Christina
,
@AstroHague
, and Aleksey Ovchinin launch to
#space
, this will be their ride. I’m at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan to watch and learn.
This
@NRCan
Inuvik facility is a pretty incredible example of collaboration, international and local. Not only does it host Canadian, Swedish, German, French & Japanese antennae, but it acts as one of the largest art installations in the north of
#Canada
. I’m happy to be here!
Seeing the
#rocket
that will carry your friends and classmates to space is a pretty special thing! Launch has been delayed due to weather until Nov 3 0110 EST, but the launch team, the crew, and the
#Endurance
capsule remain ready for action! Go Crew-3!
This morning I’m touring the Inuvik Satellite Station Facility near the MacKenzie River Delta, 200 km north of the Arctic Circle.
@NRCan
run this facility to collect important data to better understand our Earth and its changes.
Good morning! Right now
@Astro_DavidS
is getting ready to go out on his first spacewalk, and the first spacewalk for a Canadian in nearly 12 years. Check out that flag in the airlock! Watch live with
@csa_asc
or
@NASA
TV.
This week I’ve been learning the ins and outs of the

What a difference 8 years makes! In 2010 I flew on the

aircraft for combustion research while at
@mcgillu
. Yesterday I got the chance to fly with buddies
@astro_kutryk
and
@Astro_Jeremy
in the exact same airplane. This time, we were the experiment...
The journey of ~240,000 miles to the
#Moon
starts with small steps. When we were kids, my sister Meg and I used to collect rocks on the beach and imagine where they came from. This week I had the privilege to look at rocks from the Moon and imagine where we may go next.
This morning we had the privilege of joining Minister Bains to share exciting news for Canada! A Canadian Astronaut will be a part of the Artemis II mission, making Canada the second nation to travel into deep space.
In case you missed it: Canada will join the US on the first crewed mission to the moon in over 50 years.
This will make Canada the second — ever — country to send an astronaut to deep space. 🌖
While sitting in the back seat of the T-38 jet, one of my responsibilities is running the flight management system developed by Canadian Aerospace Technologies
@CAE_Inc
. Nice to see
#Canadian
innovation playing such a key role in our training!
Professor Hawking was an incredible scientist, personality, and educator. Long may his remarkable story and work inspire us to look past our own front door.
Being back in Canada for
#Canada151
has been extra special, but it’s hard to top
#CanadaDay
last year! One of the best parts of my job has been meeting so many wonderful Canadians over the past year. Thank you to all of you 🇨🇦
It’s always important to remind yourself to

It's The International Day of Women and Girls in Science! The possibilities of careers in space are endless! What are YOU going to be? For an overview: .
Congratulations to Helen Sharman, the first Briton in

Yesterday I had a chance to hang out with some wonderful young
#Canadians
who just spent the week visiting
@NASA_Johnson
.
#STEM
Sisters, I had a blast! Thank you for your passion and great questions.
J’ai été affectée à la mission Artemis II comme astronaute de relève. J’ai hâte de contribuer à cette mission historique et de m’y préparer aux côtés d’

et des autres membres d’équipage!
The most powerful rocket in operation in the world today is due to launch this afternoon. Fingers crossed for engineering and exploration successes!
#FalconHeavy
The first test flight of Falcon Heavy is targeted for Tuesday, Feb. 6th at 1:30 PM ET from Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. When Falcon Heavy lifts off, it will be the most powerful operational rocket in the world by a factor of two.
Four outstanding humans are launching to
