Oh, you're laughing at the hedge fund that got juked by reddit? Well, they're bankrupt now. Are you laughing now? Is it funny now that a bunch of MBAs are out of a job? Can you laugh knowing they're explaining to their investors that they were out maneuvered by POTATO_IN_MY_ASS?
This is a poster from the Black Panthers and honestly I think about it a lot and it deeply effects how I approach activism and my thoughts about "work."
I always boil it down to a mantra "there's no such thing as a 'jobless rate'."

A hedge fund bet a bank that the stock for GameStop will fail (called a short).
An investing subreddit saw this and, to fuck with the hedge fund, dumped a bunch of money into GameStop so the hedge fund would lose the bet.
I'm a tour guide, this is my new favorite negative review:
"He mentioned that the rats in New York City “wear suits and work in the financial district” which is an inappropriate joke to make as a tour guide and disrespectful towards those who work in the finance industry"
In the early 2000s, Denny's was going after the youth/emo market so they had a bunch of band-themed dinner items including Taking Back Sundae and the Hoobastank Hooburrito and I just remembered that fact.

Also, the hedge fund lost BILLIONS of dollars because they bet more than GameStop was worth.
It's like if you were playing poker and bet more than both what you and the other guy had.

"POTATO_IN_MY_ASS" is a typical reddit user name - as the message board doesn't have avatars or signatures, the way people stand out is by having a really unique attention-grabbing user name.

SNL WRITER: So, in the sketch you're sponsoring the Bolivian coup and then slip on a banana peel...
ELON: Ha, ha! Love it! What do you think Grimes?

I think what's important about punching Nazis is that they invest so much in the illusion of invulnerability that instantly gets erased the second a haymaker comes across their face.

Getting the "why they'll save us all" shit as a Millennial is why I'm wary of being too laudatory of Gen Z and younger kids, because it comes off as condescending and a rude amount of pressure to put on literal children.

I guess that is good news because it means that flawed, messy people who do harm can also call out those in power and challenge power structures, so we don't have to wait for a good guy to show up on a horse.

pointed out that it's not Black Panthers, but from an organization known as the New American Movement and - as per tradition - I said something wrong online so I will now enjoy an evening of being told I'm wrong over and over again.

Laying egg industry bottomed out in NYC in the 1970 due to rapid deindustrialization and offshoring of egglayer jobs to union unfriendly countries, especially in South Asia. As you can see from the video, no one has egglayer slacks so it is unlikely they are not pro eggers.
I came out late 2021 and am out everywhere but this twitter. I'm a trans woman, my name is Amber Flannery Field
The only way I make sense in the world is as a woman. This has been the hardest point in my life since I was homeless, but I've never had so much love in my heart

I do stand-up.
In 2018, I was at a comedy festival and I saw a white power chant. This festival was connected to and endorsed by The Proud Boys.
I called them out and afterwards, to take ownership my own experience, it ruined my life.
This NYU student across from me on the Amtrak has been talking loudly on the phone for the past half hour and has his laptop open, working on a screenplay and I can’t make out most of it but I can see that one line says - no lie - “Lust overtakes her, she takes off her dress.”
oh, crap, this blew up. Uhhh...donate UPROSE, a WOC-led grassroots org around climate justice that's fighting the Industry City rezoning right now and one of the ladies was nice to me on the phone this morning.
Ellie Kemper is going to force Hollywood to pivot from hiring rich kids to be their stars and return their original model of finding poor hungry hot people with a history of abuse and shoving pills in them until they stop asking questions.

Also, (sorry, double post) my first set I ever worked on I arrived at a 5:00 am call time and the head PA goes to me
"You tired?"
"Yeah"
"Fuck that, this is nothing. I just came from another set and was up 48 hours straight"
and then he turned around and fell into a ditch.
Generational markers like Gen Z and Millennial are terms invented by marketing companies and serve to divide people.
Me and Mark Zuckerberg are the same age and yet I have more in common with a 18-year-old working at KFC than I do with that no-eyebrow billionaire.

I had a friend who was a driver for Christopher Walken and Walken did not talk for the entire two weeks of the shoot until the final day he picks him up, is driving over the bridge and Walken points over at Queens and goes "...you know...DINOsaurs used to live there"

My favorite film professor spent an entire class replaying a clip of a woman running down a hallway asking us what we're seeing and after saying "no" to every answer about themes he finally stopped 2 hours in when a student said "a woman running down a hallway"
There is an entire cottage industry of breaking down deeply specific literary reasons filmmakers make every choice when half the time it’s like “a cool looking dog walked through a test shot so we kept it”
State spends $58,000 on green laser to scare courtyard Capitol pigeons away — but it doesn’t appear to be working.

Hello. I am a stranger on the internet. I lack the cultural literacy to understand your use of irony/cultural reference/exaggeration. I challenge you to a 30-minute argument about the meaning of words.
Spider-Man is a funny superhero because gets around by swinging on skyscrapers, but he lives in Flushing Queens, so if he wants to save the day then he has to hop on the 7 train for 40 minutes
POKÉMON: that chim chim loves eating sweet rolls!
DIGIMON: your mother succumbed to permanent madness after a vending machine came to life and forced her to stare into The Abyss.
I know this is a privilege thing, but I just can’t wrap my mind around how cops can be universally shitty at their jobs - not just murderers and racists - but bad at their jobs and experience literally no consequence no matter the political pressure
From the age of 12 to 22 I had this group of message board friends and towards the end, the day I realized the group was basically done, I started crying in my college class but couldn't tell anyone why because I was so embarrassed to be upset about losing my "online buddies"
I wrote an essay about the friends we make online. “…but then you remember it’s an internet friend whom you’ve never met so you sheepishly distance yourself from the love still coursing through your brain but, hey, why can’t this love be yours?”

"partner" is just a term they made up. Like how Disney World calls their employees "Cast Members." A lot of times employeers will play fast and coin terms for everyday things just as a way to muddy the water and make normal agreements seem unclear.
I don't like when people say Joss Whedon/JK Rowling/Chappelle were "never good"
It feels like revisionist history, and it bothers me because it feels like it ties "artistic quality" to politics, which is not forward-thinking; bigots hide their bigotry until they can't anymore.
What I hate about when people say shit like "they got us fighting a culture war to distract us from the class war" is that if you're, like, black or trans, the "culture war" is a fight for survival and deeply entwined with class.
Die Hard is most likely not a Christmas movie, as most historians believe the film took place during the Spring and was moved to December by early Christians in order to co-opt pagan action films.

I doubt anyone will read this and don't really have a conclusion. I probably should listen my instinct that says "don't talk about it"
I think, to have a call to action, build a worker-owned worker-centered comedy community because everything else will fuck you like it fucked me
I knew 9 comedians who died in the ten years I did comedy and what killed each was likely beyond any single person's control but I think that it happens so regularly makes it worth approaching the "comedy community" as a thing that can be and is a support community.
