There are a frightening number of adults in the U.S. who have absolutely no idea that the National Guard and Active Duty military should never, ever, ever be used for "crowd control." It's not a task they train for, and it's not why the nation has uniforms and rifles for them

I’ve been wrong about important things before but I’ve never been this wrong. Russia attacked Ukraine in February of 2014, while Ukraine was — you guessed it — constitutionally neutral. They’d expressed a desire to work more economically with the EU, but NATO wasn’t on the table

Campuses instead have become battlegrounds for radicals who want free speech and a safe space and inclusivity and in short what has emerged is a chimerical and contradictory soup — no culture — in which powerful administrations and corporate culture protect powerful brands

Something like 66% of Austria's economy belongs to Russia, why are we listening to the people who teach in its economics school

@schwarz Behind every cop throwing an economics professor facefirst onto a grass lawn is a very angry and very wealthy donor threatening to yank back the $50 million they promised for the new immunology research center if the president doesn't get a handle on these "antisemitic protests"

Students and faculty can be treated like this by police who've been directed to crush protests and that's probably surprising to them, they probably thought the university was theirs. Nope! Universities are influence laundromats for wealthy donors. Administrators mind the shop

It is worth watching this CNN video from the moment Emory Econ Professor @CarolineFohlin came across the violent arrest of a protester on campus and asked the police, with shock, "What are you doing?" That's all that prompted an officer to hurl her to the ground and handcuff her.

Maybe they've reconstituted in the sense that Russia's military has low standards, limited or no combined-arms capability, and a high tolerance for thievery — if reconstitution means wrestling tens or hundreds of thousands of reluctant drunkards into shoddy uniforms, ok, maybe

3-“Crimea, Luhansk, and Donbas should be made semi-autonomous regions” Crimea already was a semi-autonomous region and had been for years when Putin seized and annexed it; Luhansk and Donbas weren’t even being discussed in those terms at the time

@HuntClancy Can think of 5 examples of this type from my time in the 173rd and 10th MTN, 1 got out, 3 made MSG, of whom 1 currently the CSM of the 173rd, 1 went Green to Gold and got out as a Major. All of them basically standup-comic-level genius at nicknames / working the crowd

Put Trump and Hunter Biden in the same cell. Satisfy the right and the left. Let them be friends. Let the country heal

Being part of Russia’s June offensive just went from “maybe we’ll take Kharkiv” to “I hope my wife’s boyfriend enjoys the free Lada”

@BeijingPalmer Somebody told me once that you can go hard-core religious once, and that it will absolve you of past sins; you sin again, it’s all on your head. Like taking the Hajj

@JonesGP1996 I’m gonna let historians figure that out — I will say that we weren’t the bad guys in that specific way, whatever our flaws. No natural resources were exploited or extracted by us from Afghanistan, the nation’s wealth is still there for its people

Xi - who seems more reasonable than Putin (not a high bar these days, my huskey, Freya, is more reasonable than Putin) - won’t take a coalition capable of defending Ukraine’s sovereignty into consideration when making plans to attack Taiwan? Such a Xi would be very, very stupid

My network — whatever that means on Twitter these days — or at least that part of it moved to vote on this poll — is overwhelmingly in favor of some form of regulation of short term rentals.

The idea I have in my head of how the nation ought to handle what amount to local protests by students against their universities is really far from how it's being handled

In response to a Fox News question about campus protests, the White House spokeswomen said the Department of Justice, Homeland Security and the Department of Education will be involved. This means the Biden administration may be pursuing federal charges against student protestors

@timothypmurphy Libertarian Party is so washed on the federal and local level — the brand is Putinists and pedophiles. Unrecoverable, at the very moment its economic ideas have never been more popular and widespread — mainstream, essentially
