I’ve talked to some orgs in the past about getting long term funding for @otterscan as a public good and the answer was “we don’t want to fund a block explorer, max we can do is small grant” although we found other ways to survive for now, it’s sad most people are ok with that

I upstreamed all @otterscan patches for @ErigonEth , that means: no need for installing a modified Erigon binary anymore! From the next Erigon release, all users should be able to use Otterscan API out-of-box!

🎯 that's not just dumb search for logs in receipts, it's contract introspection, i.e., if you deployed a revolutionary token that will make you millionaire but still didn't interacted with it, hence not generated any log, I'll find it. so, yeah, test tokens, dormant ones, etc.

BTW, I don’t think etherscan charging $1-2M/year for a VC chain is expensive given their product + market leader premium + operational costs. pretty sure everyone knows DAOs expending more than that and generating much less value (yes, it’s an oranges vs apples comparison…)

Really dislike how eth community neglect the importance of software licensing. I'm reviewing a batch of RPGF3 applications, saw some that have a github repo, but absolutely no license info (is it a public good?), some are BSL (NOT a public good). rejecting all of them.

@bantg after it's creation, query the contract for name/symbol/decimals. I found out that those small set of methods work well enough to identify an ERC20. It is the duck approach: if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, it may be a duck 🙂

the sad truth is that such ugly hack shouldn't exist, the only reason it does is because the json-rpc API has become totally stagnant, but no one wants to fix it because it means having to coordinate with clients, etc. and that alone is an incentive to do ugly hacks like that.

@bantg Actually, the approach is simpler (and more brute force like), but it doesn't depend on any code layout, but it's execution itself, making it work regardless of being proxy or not. For each address that had a deployed contract, I instantiate the EVM, load the state at the block

oh yeah, and all this info takes ~70MB of disk space (+3-4GB of general contract data which is prerequisite for this and other classifiers I'm testing). all of that research will be disclosed for initial peer reviewing once I'm sure there are not (many) false positives.

ALPHA DROP: if I did everything correctly, I was able to catalog +1.2M addresses that look like ERC20 contracts on mainnet. All of that in ~50min on my slow laptop. 👀

I need to inform my bank I'm traveling to Turkey so they don't block my credit cards. One bank requires me to choose between Europe OR Asia for a given period. The other one too, but it says Turkey is in Europe country list. The third one allows me to choose Europe AND Asia.

@TimBeiko Keep deprecating and bootstraping new goerli and sepolia in alternate years to educate people that testnets can be discarded and testnet eth is valueless, give initial allocation to known set of reputable community members, faucet admins, etc, for redistribution

TBH, most people don’t care (for now), I’m more interested in the next possible step which would be decreasing the 32 ETH requirement due to less increasing validator set, hence allowing less-rich people to stake directly. *that* would actually be an impactful change.

I always repeat to people from US/EU who ask me: the killer defi "application" for us Brazilians are stablecoins. Fuck everything else, even L2 fees are expensive for any actual usage by an average person. Yes, wallet UX is shit, but Ethereum roadmap should prioritize (cont.)

just realized Discord finally added support for yubikeys, just registered all of mine, removed authentication app and my phone number from it! if you admin any Discord server you should definitely switch to physical keys to avoid having your account stolen.
