Feels almost like a colonial mindset to have this tourism ad campaign for Turkey as locals are on lockdown and less than 13% of country is vaccinated
These campaign posters dot highways across Istanbul. It reads ‘Syrians will go’ alongside opposition candidate Kemal Kiliçdaroğlu. A Syrian, living here 7yrs, told me, “my children can read those signs it’s impossible for me to hide them.” She says her son is bullied at school.

Serious question: How could there be "10 million Syrians" in 🇹🇷?
🇹🇷 has taken *by far* the most Syrian refugees, which is admirable. But Syria's prewar population was only 22M; it's now estimated at 16-18M. Other countries have taken Syrians too.
Turkey simpy can't be hosting 10M
I love how almost all Turkish color adjectives have an intensive form:
* bembeyaz - snow white
* kıpkırmızı - red as blood/a rose
* sapsarı
* yemyeşil - forest green
* masmavi - true blue
* mosmor - deep purple
* pespembe
* simsiyah - black as night
* kapkara - pitch black
One reason everyone should learn Turkish is so that we can use adjectives like
yeşil 'green' -> yemyeşil 'completely green, totally green'
yalnız 'alone' -> yapayalnız 'completely alone'
temiz 'clean' -> tertemiz 'completely clean, spotless'
These adjectives are so fun to form.
