@guttersniper Another man, moves to sit opposite us. Starts saying exactly the same things to the creep. He just wants to be friends with him, why's he ignoring him, etc. Creep shuts up. And doesn't follow me. (I still alighted at a different stop from normal though)

@DailyMailUK Language matters. It socialises us. We hear 'had sex' and most unconsciously associate it with something that isn't harmful. The right language here is rape, sexual assault, sexual abuse. Please get this right for survivors.

@NaomiOhReally In my late teens, I had an actual injunction order against a man who had been harassing me. When he turned up at the house I was staying at, I called the police. They came, but said: he only wants to talk. Whereas I was described as "hysterical".

@CCriadoPerez It's vile. Also a double-standard as apparently it's fine to still name men. And it's dangerous. If we can't name a sex class, then we can't fight inequalities faced by them. And it seems to be women we can't name. There are better ways of being inclusive. Misogyny ain't it.

@DrJessTaylor It's literally (& I use the word with impunity) hardwired into language. Where male is the default, where female honorifics are tied to relationships with males. Mention it, and people look at you like you're crazy - raising trivialities when there's so much wrong in the world.

This. So much. In one of my teaching slides I note that there are over 200 euphemisms for death & dying. We have a responsibility to be clear. It's the compassionate thing to do. #EndOfLifeCare @DyingMatters

We use metaphors: ‘They’re gravely ill.’ ‘There’s a chance they might not make it.’ Unless you use specific words it doesn’t sink in. @Liz_ORiordan on the importance of open, honest conversations.

@HadleyFreeman @TheLancet This is one of the major issues I'm seeing with recent so-called inclusive language. It's exclusionary, but just to women. Healthline did exactly the same a few mths ago, a major news outlet as well, where they write articles on men, but daren't say women. Pure misogyny.

It took me back, to those classrooms, to those lockers, to those spaces where I wasn't laughing, but felt it was churlish to question why. I have a voice now. But it took a while. Always inspiring. @adave_NHS cites data on racism, harassment & asks us to read the writing in the wall. As @BlackCountryICS CMO she's building the ocean drop by drop. Care for patients should extend to our workforce. Domain 3 of GMP can help drive cultures we need to see.

Whilst the categories in the 2003 Act could do with updating, offences against 13-16 yo children are still classed as child sexual abuse and perpetrators are still paedophiles. Reporting could use such language rather than words which minimise survivors' experiences.
