If you’re asked to build a model on Omicron severity & do so in denial that 95% of the country who have antibodies also have other serious defences mechanisms such as T cell & memory cell resistance, and label your results with 95% certainty, you have no credibility whatsoever.

Lots of people in hospital 'WITH' a very transmissible virus that loves it indoors shock! Meanwhile, ICU use, almost a month into Omicron, flat as a pancake & weekly deaths (England) are in fact showing a decrease of 50% since 5/11 although I'm sure there's a Xmas reporting lag!

@drphilhammond Have you seriously never heard of Krugman’s Leprochaun Economics? Paul Krugman famously dubbed this phenomenon after Ireland’s GDP grew by more than 22% in 2015 due to tax shenanigans. Irish GDP was just a little over 500 billion euros in 2022. GNI is substantially lower.

She's at it again! Big statements not backed up by facts. She failed to mention that in the last 12 months (11/2/21-10/2/22) Germany has reported 55,450 covid deaths (Worldometers) v UK 42,951. Even with larger population that's more deaths per million🙄

So how are our mask wearing Italian pals getting on? An update shows they have 4 times the cases, infection growing more quickly & with twice the positivity rate (20% v 10%), all despite legally enforcing FFP2 masks in many settings. According to IndySage though masks work.🙄

So I see that the 'follow the science' brigade who largely blamed covid for increased child hepatitis were wrong. To compound this, it seems the true cause was largely down to suppression of adenoviruses due to the restrictions they were keen to extend? 🙄

The 'extra testing' post half term case bounce is simply failing to materialise. Cases by reporting date -22% v a fortnight ago, Over 80's still dropping and over 60's again in negative territory. Next to come is case data translating into lower admissions, a matter of time!

December UK Gas Futures price down to 243, the lowest level for 6 months, as futures market converges with today's spot price. That's a drop of 56% from the price before the mini budget & 27% of August peak. Even the OBR have to acknowledge this (as does the forthcoming budget).

@timspector In Havering there has been an 'emergency' list compiled of people on the front line (NHS staff and volunteers) who can get to the vax centre at short notice. They get a call and get the jab to avoid wastage. Not sure why Watford not doing same.

Just a word of caution re exponential growth. It only lasts for a short of time. To the peak it's not lasted more than a couple of weeks before it tails off, whether in England or elsewhere, seemingly South Africa now. It could go very high but will burn itself out very quickly

New cases - dashboard! DOWN! I know Zoe is reporting higher cases but find that difficult to believe! 1) still 1 mill+ tests being recorded on the system daily 2) recent hospital data still reducing. Await ONS for confirmation though! Biggest dashboard % drops in over 60's!

So happily, as predicted Covid Admissions now dropping on a weekly basis, covid hospital beds will follow suit in 2 or 3 days time. BA.4/5 wave admissions peaked at 12% less than BA.2 (13,049 week ending 13/7 v 14,809 week ending 31/3).

@ShaunLintern And if I hear one more time about the issues within the NHS being all Covid related, rather than due to underfunding for 30-40 years, I am also going to lose it. Beds are full up with respiratory sufferers every winter. There were 5 times more covid cases in hospital in January!

I'm confused. The big 2 items of the mini budget were 1) the reversal of the 1.25% hike in NIC's. This will put a bit of cash into working people's pockets. It will cost about £16 bill a year. 2) the energy cap to keep people warm this winter. What are people complaining about?

@EssexPR It's a throwaway comment but IF “ All guests returned negative antigen tests before the event but more than half are now isolating. The infected staff were all fully vaccinated & are showing no symptoms ” that throwaway comment were true, the pandemic IS statistically over.

So following on from my tweet last night, we did get that mortality catch up from NHS, the revised number was 365, a weekly DECREASE of 1.3% from previous week despite us well into Omicron wave now. Sounds harsh but I'll settle for a DECREASE of 29% from week ending 5th Nov

NHS England have reported 365 new Covid hospital deaths over the period 25-30th Dec.. These I think will be added to today's 4pm number so I expect lots of noise on here about the high death number.. This is how hospital Covid deaths look including this:

Word of warning re poss high mortality data tomorrow as a result of Christmas backlog. In the week ending Dec 23rd in England we had 684 deaths. To get to 685 deaths for the week ending Dec 30th we will need a daily no of 375 tomorrow. Anything less & weekly deaths reducing....

Below were Independent Sage's requirements from 17th September 2021, more than 18 months into the pandemic. All the elderly by this stage had the chance of 2 vaccinations & the offer of a winter booster. They were effectively demanding a dystopian society!

@IndependentSage I would ask @IndependentSage what they suggest doing about the long term educational, mental & physical health damage to children they have encouraged throughout the pandemic by requesting longer lockdowns and school closures? That 5% increase in child obesity is shocking!

@andrew_lilico I’m not sure what evidence is required when front line S Africa are saying that after 4 weeks they have no one on oxygen or dead. It’s clear from their CPR that they’re getting multiples of reported daily cases. We have 95% with antibodies, probably 99% with b/T-cell immunity.

I find it incomprehensible that @RachelReevesMP is pretty much nailed on to be our next Chancellor! BP made less than $2.8 bill North Sea profit (<10%) & will pay $2.2 bill in tax. That's around 79% tax on UK profits. Does she want to drive all business away from the UK?
