Awful news. Janice's amazing Radio 1 show was part of the blueprint for the Evening Session when
@jowhiley
and I presented it. We fleetingly had back to back shows at XFM and she was a regular
@bbc6music
Roundtable. Always warm, generous and a real fan.
24 days since I was last at a gig. The longest I’ve been without being in a venue since I was 17. Please God let there still be places open when we’re all let out again.

@IVW_UK
Afternoon all. So I’m not going to be on drivetime for a while. I’m fine (for people who’ve asked), but spoke to a local doctor last week who advised me, for various reasons, to stay at home for now.
Thank you for all the
@BBC6Music
birthday wishes today. You lovely people. It’s been - and still is - a brilliant, scary privilege doing the shows and being part of the station. Here’s to all the music still to come
Feeling oddly, slightly nervous about this, but back on air today from 4pm with the wonderful
@sprintsmusic
in session and first plays of tracks from Bodega and Fat Dog among others. Still, I’ve remembered to bring my headphones so that’s a good start.
Any new/new-ish artists who are live streaming a ‘gig’ from home in the next couple of weeks, if you want to drop me a line we’ll attempt to do a virtual gig guide on this week’s
#Recommends
show. Deadline end of play Tuesday. Ta very much
Thank you so much for all the ‘welcome back’ messages over the past two days. I’ve been genuinely touched - to the point where I’d like to reply to them all, but it turns out that after some time away, I’ve got a bit of post to get through x
Back tomorrow
@BBC6Music
from 4pm, with new stuff, old stuff, frankly indescribable stuff…AND a new three-song sweep Mind Body & Soul, three tracks chosen by a different listener each day
So embroiled in a game of cribbage last night with mates that I missed the news that we've just had record figures on
@6music
drivetime (Jan to March). Thank you dear listeners. Am missing you. And thanks producer
@PaulNut
. We'll be back on June 1. Take care
IDLES IDLES IDLES IDLES IDLES IDLES IDLES IDLES IDLES. Right, going to bed now just to make sure this past week hasn't been some hallucinogenic cheese-eating induced dream.
@idlesband
see you on tour in October
Thank you everybody for the birthday messages today. Very touching. Bless you all, including some old friends - not least my former R1 partner, the lovely
@jowhiley
. I’ll raise a glass to all tonight.
Happy Happy Birthday to one of the all time broadcasting greats, a walking musical encyclopedia and my original & much loved radio other half. Cider and peanuts all round!!

THREAD 1/11: Now here's a story. Back in the 90s, along with lots of teenagers in Cornwall, I started going to raves & listening to hardcore and drum & bass. Here's me and my mate Ollie after a long night (Helter Skelter, Milton Keynes, 97...). And yes that is a high viz jacket.
Today we have received some devastating news that in 1 year's time, our Landlord is evicting us and forcing us to close.
Please show your support by sharing this news & sending us your best memories that we can gather to help display all the reasons why

I seem to have a lot of these. Today’s

On today’s

show, my final Album Club selection, playing Kirsty MacColl’s LP ‘Kite’ in full plus a clip from this interview I did for NME around its release in ‘89.
I think I've stil got the promo cassette at home somewhere. I do remember the original headline, thought up two minutes before the page was signed off: 'Nevermind - The Bollocks'.
1978 Day
@BBC6Music
This is the front row at the first gig I ever went to. Sept 24 1978 The Lurkers at Chelmsford Chancellor Hall. Whoever took this, get in touch so I can give you a credit.
All going off

tonight in London. It’s odd. Cramped near the back, looking down to the stage, they look so shadowy and distanced - and yet they still convey such hope and warmth

Incredibly sad news about the closure of

I might be off the radio till January, but I have got one or two live dates coming up, starting this weekend

If you happen to be there, I'm doing my One Man Show at 2.30pm on Sat (lots of R&R anecdotes) and then DJing at 2am on Sun. Stay up. It'll be good for you.

Also we have to say thanks to, and spare a thought for, the redoubtable team at Moles who fought so valiantly to keep it open, before coming to this impossibly difficult decision. They'll be a lot of people who'll miss you terribly.
Lou Ottens, who led the invention of the first cassette tape, has died at age 94, according to media reports.
"Next time you make that perfect playlist on Spotify, or send a link to share a song, you can thank Lou Ottens," filmmaker Zack Taylor tells NPR.

gig back home at Colchester’s lovely
@ColchesterArts
. Still slightly lost for words tbh.
Bless you for the plug and the kind words but more importantly listen to Huw's last midweek show tonight on Radio 1. Not only is he the loveliest man, but he has done a brilliant job in this slot. Always approachable, always looking for The New. We salute you brother.
My view tonight
@thecluny
An almost effortlessly edgy and absorbing set from
@nadineshah
. She can be so spellbinding, without even realising how compelling she is. Roll on the new album
Just back home after seeing
@YardActBand
@BedfordEsquires
. Without wanting to be too gushy about this, the audience were great, the band were on terrific form and the one-liners were exemplary.
A decade of great bish bosh guitar pop and “sonic cathedrals of sound.” Oh, and DMs, baggy shirts, crowd surfing, shoegazing, chin scratching and pre-millennium angst. I mean, I’m biased but I’d have this for Silverfish and Arab Strap alone.
