In 1965 the Welsh village of Capel Celyn in Tryweryn valley was drowned to create a reservoir for Liverpool. A community destroyed, a village under water. Dad painted these words. And although he published 160 books, he said these might be his most important words.
A birthday cake so amazing I didn’t want to eat it. Not like me at all. 40 now, apparently. Went to Hay on Wye to celebrate! 💫 Teimlo’n ddiolchgar a falch fod y pedwardeg wedi cyredd.
Dignified and powerful statement from
@theresa_may
. I have seen at first hand throughout her time as PM her ongoing support and absolute commitment to a prosperous Wales - a true public servant.
I am, surprisingly, 2 years sober now. I did Dry Jan, then carried on. You just don’t drink. I still go out, go to gigs, festivals, the pub, I just don’t drink the booze.
the respect
@coldplay
showed Cardiff, Wales and the Welsh language was enormous.
@HanaLilimusic

It’s been a blast presenting Mon-Weds nights on
@BBCR1
. And I’m looking forward to starting the
@bbcintroducing
show on Sunday nights in September. End of an era, and beginning of another.
Met someone from Wrexham this week, who added ‘not proper Wales’. Which is nonsense, and I’ve heard it before. About Cardiff, Newport, Aberystwyth, Bangor, Anglesey. No such thing as Welsh Wales. Or proper Wales. Just Wales. Warts and all.
#o2down
so I've asked a man on the street to borrow his phone and paid him to let me log out of his twitter and log in to mine to tell you how pissed off I am.
No
@BBCR1
Christmas party this year. Weirdest thing that happened to me; my first one, 1999. Fell asleep in the stairs of the club it was in (I was 18). Woke up to find
@JamieTheakston
above me, with a glass milk, to help me feel better again. If you’re reading, thank you Jamie.
Cofiwch Dryweryn, a documentary we made on the phenomenon of the wall in Wales that my father painted in 1963, will be on
@S4C
on Thursday August 8th at 9.30pm.
#CofiwchDryweryn
We'll be saying goodbye to Huw Stephens, Phil Taggart and Dev at the end of 2020.
Each have been incredibly valuable members of the Radio 1 family over the years.
We wish you all the best for your next steps

It’s
@grimmers
last week on his 97-99FM BBC Radio 1 show. I’ve never met anyone who fills the room with their warmth, humour, observation and huge personality quite like Nick Grimshaw. The sweetest man; lots of love Nick x
Welcome to my last but one show on
@BBCR1
! Tonight it’s all about
@bbcintroducing
. Next weeks show is my last one on Radio 1. This is my last live one from the 8th floor of BBC’s New Broadcasting House in London!
Reminder; If you want to catch me doing an exclusive NYE dj set, you’ll have to come round my house and watch me scroll through my phone in my jim jams.
Thanks so much for your really nice messages about the show over the years. it really has been a blast, and an absolute pleasure. Doing Wednesday for a last time tonight from 11pm on
@BBCR1

We watched IT’S A SIN on
@Channel4
this weekend. Such a powerful, well made series. An incredibly important story.
@alexander_olly
a star. Colin. We cried. It’s beautiful. Exceptional writing from
@russelldavies63
.
Incredible really, as Wales really didn't want this. I've done presentations in my living room that look better than this. And that dragon is a shambles.
The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall begin their annual week of visits to Wales at a ceremony to mark the renaming of the Second Severn Crossing to the Prince of Wales Bridge.
Welcome to the show!
@BBC6Music
looking after Steve’s show this week. Today we hear from

’s Lindsay Melbourne, the community inspired by
@idlesband
’s All is Love.
As with all graffiti, it has been defaced many times. Recently it was painted over with the word ELVIS by someone who presumably didn’t understand its cultural importance. 48 hours later, it’s back to how it should be.

Here’s the poster for the
@Manics
gig in
@ClwbIforBach
that never happened. Nicky rang to cancel because they had to go and sign a record deal. Good excuse!
Fast forward 32 years (!), Manic Street Preachers play Clwb for the first time as part of the

@BBC6Music
Today outside the National Museum in Cardiff I met someone who was down from Birmingham to see the
@Manics
gig, and they were off to see the art because they’d enjoyed The Story of Welsh Art on telly! Chuffed!
In Wales, we don’t have enough train carriages. The trains are unfit for purpose. Old, cold, noisy trains that other parts of Europe left behind years ago. Late for work, appointments, life. It’s the pits.
@tfwrail
@WG_EconomyMin
His love of people, music, Wales and life was so contagious. His radio shows were pure magic to listen to; funny, warm, human and hilarious, and musically the most diverse I’ve ever heard. Disco, pop, Welsh Hymns, Spanish hits, opera! Rest in peace Chris, a diolch am bopeth.
We made a documentary about Wales, my Dad painting the Cofiwch Dryweryn wall, and the incredible reaction to its vandalising this year. It’s on
@S4C
toight. You can watch via
@BBCiPlayer
also.
I remember
@ColinMurray
playing
@superfurry
’s The Man Don’t Give a F*** as his last song. The uncensored version with 52 (correct me if I’m wrong) F***s in it.
From the beautiful landscape of Snowdonia to the incredible ironworks of Cyfarthfa, Huw Stephens explores the era that transformed Welsh art.

We’ve made a film called ANORAC. It documents the Welsh language music scene, and is filmed on location across 🏴. Its premiere is at
@Eisteddfod_eng
in Cardiff, then
@GreenManFest
. It’s stunning, directed and produced by Gruff Davies.
#anorac
The great thing about working in radio is, very rarely will you meet a knob. You kind of have to be interested in people and humanity and life to work in radio, because that’s what keeps it going. (There are exceptions, I am aware).
Wales : 100 Records
