Biggest mistake I see with camera beginners is a picture thatโ€™s either way too bright or way too dark. On a DSLR you need to properly โ€œexposeโ€ your subject. Capture more visual information with proper exposure-- this will make everything you shoot look more professional.

I love seeing those videos of camera beginners filming on a $30,000 RED and an expert filming on a $600 DSLR because it proves time and time again that the only real difference is experience and knowledge. If you have those two, you can make your situation work.

You can't just put something in front of a fancy camera and expect people to care. Cinematography derives from the Greek roots kinema (movement) and graphein (to write). Capture your idea, emotions, words, and tone nonverbally.
