Professional video allows you to:
- scale your brand
- establish authority
- differentiate from the crowd
I'm giving away a free crash course on professional video production to every who RT's this + FOLLOWs me.
Peace brah.
@SwannMarcus89
The meme is becoming circular where the people who propose the question short circuit if they donโt get the expected response. Its like hitting someone with the uno reverse card
@TetraspaceWest
What do we think the big change is? My guess is something to do with AI. Saw a video of someone who replicated a completely fabricated speech from just 30 seconds of footage of him talking. Maybe the native Americans were right about photographs stealing your soul.
@bpoppenheimer
This completely transformed the way I look at focus.
I used to think that sometimes I was in a focused mood, sometimes I was battling brain fog.
But to just go ahead and accept that brain fog is a natural precursor to action is in some sense a very liberating idea.
@ipsumkyle
Happened once with my friend group. 5-6 multi-year relationships ending rapid fire in the span of a month or so. Was crazy to watch. There definitely is a seasonal aspect to this sort of thing. Mimetic desire is crazy.
@coldhealing
This kinda reminds me of that study they did where they found baby-talking to your child stunts their language development vs if you just talk to them like another adult
Each of the 7 deadly sins has a corresponding virtue:
Pride โ> Humility
Lust โ> Chastity
Greed โ> Charity
Envy โ> Patience
Sloth โ> Diligence
Wrath โ> Kindness
Gluttony โ> Temperance
This means:
You need something to run FROM but more importantly something to run TOWARD.
If you can win the morning you can win the day.
If you can win Monday, you can win the week.
Never underestimate the value of a strong start.
Set the tone.
Pride is the most dangerous feeling in the world.
Itโs easy to think highly of yourself when things are going your wayโ
But if you can receive criticism with grace, you will avoid many pitfalls.
Never be above instruction.
Burnout is real.
You can push, push, push.
But ultimately if you donโt know how and when to utilize rest, youโre going to drive yourself in the ground.
Rest is necessary; the gym, creating, research.
Prioritize recovery and watch you productivity skyrocket.
People think happiness is
- MONEY - (lots of stuff)
- STATUS - (praise from others)
- SEX - (bodily pleasure)
What happiness really is
- CONTENTMENT - (having what you need)
- PURPOSE - (a why for your what)
- LOVE - (long-lasting relationships)
Would you add anything?
Someone tell me if this is stupidโ
Iโm in my twenties, graduated college a year ago.
Iโm spending ALL of my money and free time on
- books
- courses
- mentors
- supplements
- training programs
Iโve accepted that money isnโt what motivates me.
Learning and growth is.
Desiring to 'BE' ensures your success will always depend on other people's perception of you.
Desiring to 'DO' ensures you will succeed regardless of whether or not you're recognized.
Recently received negative feedback on my personality from close acquaintances.
Times like these are when reflection is most critical.
The danger of gaining a crowd is losing yourself to it.
@coldhealing
Have a coworker that regularly asks me if Iโve seen the new marvel/Disney/thing every few weeks. The answer is always no. He is always surprised. Heโs 36.
If youโre not careful youโll waste your life chasingโ
- hookups instead of relationships
- beauty instead of health
- $$$ instead of wealth
- success instead of peace
Donโt let other peopleโs empty flexing distract you from your purpose.
I was all wrong about content creation.
I was preoccupied with telling other people how to do things
instead of showing the process of how I achieved it myself.
The new process Iโll use from now on:
DO COOL STUFF โโ> DOCUMENT
Youโre far too casual.
Not every moment needs comedic relief.
Believe it or not, you can say something and actually mean it.
But a lot of people would rather hide behind a veil of ironic detachment.
It takes guts to be sincere.
The unfortunate truth...
For every prophet there is in the Bible, there are a dozen or so false ones.
Itโs easier to be admired when you flatter people with what they want to hear.
Do you have the fortitude to be truthful at the expense of your status?
Next time you think youโre busy
Leonardo Da Vinciโs to-do list included stuff like:
- [Obtain] a skull
- [Examine] the crossbow of Maestro Giannetto
- [Draw] Milan
- [Discover] the measurement of the Dukeโs palace
- [Find] a master of hydraulics to show you how to repair aโฆ
โCast not your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet.โ
Do not give what is valuable to those that cannot appreciate its value.
If you do, bitterness will overwhelm you and prevent you from sharing your gifts with those in need of them.
Progressive overload is a game changer in every pursuit.
Gym, nutrition, career, research.
You should be progressive overloading on everything.
Tracking your progress.
Transformations are the result of tiny improvements (as little as 2%) compounding over time.
Modern day online gurus are practicing sophistry.
Socrates never charged people $$$ when he dispensed wisdom.
Ask yourself, if what your selling is so valuable (for society), whatโs the harm in giving it away?
Dispense free information, sell the implementation.
People fail because they havenโt ordered their desires.
Is your current behavior in line with your short-, medium-, and long-term goals?
E.g.; Short term I crave this cookie, medium term Iโd like to lose weight, long term Iโd like to be healthy.
Not all desires can coexist.
Everyone, including you and I, have a capacity for evil.
Unwillingness to recognize this means youโre more likely to manifest evil unconsciously.
Donโt be so certain of your own moral superiority.
Question everything, including yourself.
I just watched two months worth of work vanish from my computer.
Irrecoverable.
Yes, it is depressing.
I only have two weeks to rebuild what was lost.
Any advice?
Be careful.
When you criticize, you say more about yourself than what youโre criticizing.
Example:
โCapitalism is evil.โ
What people hear: โI am not confident in my earning ability.โ
-
โThe gym is for meatheads.โ
What people hear: โI could never endure such training.โ
People donโt realize
All of the greatest works are performed in spite of great pain and struggle.
If you arenโt feeling some level of
- discomfort
- embarrassment
- confusion
Then youโre too comfortable.
Find your limit so you can surpass it.
The goal with spirituality shouldnโt be
- monetary gain
- self-satisfaction
- praise from others
- transcendent experience
The goal with spirituality should be
- truth-seeking
- embodying love
- existential gratitude
- learning so you may teach
Stop abusing stimulants for productivity. Instead, focus on
- Reducing work to essential tasks
- Optimizing your rest and leisure
- Say โnoโ more than you say โyesโ
This will allow you to
- Produce more
- Feel better
- Save time and $$$
The most beneficial thing for any creator is finding your tribeโ
People dedicated to the same vision.
People to push you and remind you why you started.
Humans are MIMETIC.
Form social groups that are in line with your goalsโ then watch as you grow exponentially.
Cold hard truth:
If youโre unwilling to invest in your own development, you shouldnโt expect others to invest in you either.
Iโll never regret spending money on
- Courses
- Coaching
- Nutritional food
Ruthlessly invest in your own growth.
How to achieve any goal:
If all your friends are rich, youโll want to be a rich.
If all of your friends are jacked, youโll want to be jacked.
If all of your friends are wise, youโll want to be wise.
The network you build has a direct influence on who you become.
Stuck in a rut?
Develop AT LEAST one of these areas every single day
- Faith
- Family
- Finance
- Fitness
Stagnation is a myth.
If you aren't actively IMPROVING in these areas, assume you are DETERIORATING and act accordingly.
Saturdays are for the extra reps.
40 hours a week spent building someoneโs elseโs visionโ
8 hours on the weekend building my own.
Today I spend my free time buildingโ
So in the future I can have a life of leisure.
Scammers donโt know the first thing about business.
The ultimate scam:
Creating a product so valuable people come back and pay for it again and again and again.
For art to stand the test of time, it has to contain more than the creator is conscious of during its conception.
Otherwise itโs hollow, obviousโ dated from the moment itโs born.
Transcendent art reveals more and more the deeper you go.
Thereโs a sense of boundless depth.
People frequently say to me
"You're so quiet, I wish you would talk more!"
People rarely say to me
"That was a foolish thing to say."
Your words sculpt your existence.
Always say less than necessary.
A perfect Sunday recharge:
- Early rise
- Espresso
- 1 hour reading
- Longgggg walk
- Focus journaling
- Strategize the week
- A little too much sun
- Reconnect with friends
- Tidying up my work space
- Make progress on pet projects
- Make a breakthrough on content
Did you know Marcus Aureliusโ wife cheated on him with a gladiator?
The gladiator was executed, and Marcusโ wife Faustina was forced to bathe in his blood.
Wild.
Don't be tricked into believing the ego is necessarily something that needs transcending. That might be true for a handful of humans throughout existence, but what the vast majority of us would benefit more from is ego ๐๐๐ซ๐๐ก๐ค๐ฅ๐ข๐๐ฃ๐ฉ.
Sam Sulek has 3M subscribers.
No fancy edits, no crazy thumbnails.
Just a dude with a hobby he turned into an income because he filmed something people wanted to watch.
Start making videos about the stuff you like to do and eventually your audience will find you.
If you hate so-called 'NPC's' it's because you fear your own lack of agency. Don't be so tense. Being an NPC is actually quite enlightened work most of the time.
I resist the idea that photography and video production are only an option for "creative" individuals.
In reality, these jobs are quite blue collar and accessible.
Being too high-minded about "muh creativity" prevents real work. You don't have to reinvent the wheel.
"When in doubt, reduce the number of elements in frame."
This is a concept for photographers and filmmakers, but really it applies to so much more than shooting.
Put simply, if you want to achieve your desired result, you need to be specific about your focus.
Esoteric filming hack:
If ever you want to film something handheld, the heavier your rig the better handling you'll have.
Also, carbing up before your shoot will prevent shakiness.
Was talking to a zoomer kid at the gym the other day and he told me he had started doing DSLR photography.
"Do you have any advice?"
It's the same for everyone. Maximize the gear and subject matter at your current disposal. Artfully capture something interesting. That's it.
You don't need to be a videographer to film something that looks professional.
- usable camera
- subject in focus
- clean audio
- some way to edit
- something worth watching
The only mistake is refusing to learn.
@libshipwreck
@catandobads
Which leaves the question of โwhat to do about it.โ And the only thing an individual can really ever do is choose to shoulder more personal responsibility.
@JoshWalkos
the real delta here is not between ways of thinking, but ways of articulating oneโs own thinking.
I highly doubt there are that big of differences in the way we think, but rather the difference is in our ability to hear and articulate this โdifferenceโ
One time at our company, my mentor wanted to see if he could make a better video than me. We were supposed to create a short in the style of Wes Anderson. He tried to get too fancy with it; it turned out weird. We were using the same footage, but everyone liked my edit more.
Are you motivated by a desire to live a life of leisure, or to solve increasingly complex and rewarding problems? The first is a dead end-- the second is your highest calling.
Media has never been more populist.
Everyone is creating their own little world for others to explore.
People spend hours consuming videos because they necessarily want something outside of their personal experience.
Build something worth watching.
The other day I watched "Snow on
Tha Bluff" and was reminded why found footage is one of my favorite mediums. Because the most enrapturing content is always that which blurs the line between fact and ficiton.
Any skill you do not routinely re-introduce into your routine starts to atrophy.
You must practice with intent:
Going through the motions does not constitute "practice."
"Why are videographers so expensive?!"
Because you're paying them to do something you could have easily learned yourself.
Anytime you skip learning, you tax yourself.
The constraint to your brands growth is your willingness to learn every aspect of creation.
Film yourself.
@kindlyone92
fitness space is rampant with this sort of narcissism; โonly MY talent is truly valuableโ
I think high self-esteem athletes donโt feel as threatened by differentiation, though.
They know it takes different body types to be good at different things.
Biggest mistake I see with camera beginners is a picture thatโs either way too bright or way too dark.
On a DSLR you need to properly โexposeโ your subject.
Capture more visual information with proper exposure-- this will make everything you shoot look more professional.
You don't need to know the end goal of what you're building to start building it.
You can't improve what doesn't exist.
Make your first video (it will be bad, but who cares)
Then when you have some perspective, improve what needs improvement.
@theistinthought
Leadership is one of the spiritual gifts, and giftedness is a rare and beautiful thing. Itโs far easier to be a bad boss than a good oneโ the same way itโs far easier to be a tyrant over others than to exude control over oneself.
Video is a lot like writing in that if you want to make something truly good, you have to run some sense be speaking to one person.
Speaking to everyone leaves your work with zero gravity.
Speaking to one person keeps it focused, personal, effective.
Why is it that you can make a 100 on a test and it will barely move your grade up, but you get a 0 on a worksheet and suddenly youโre failing with a 22 ????
Creating code and media are two of the greatest skill sets a person can have:
- high upfront cost (knowing how to build)
- low maintenance (passive gain once built)
A good video does the selling for you. Start filming what you do.
I love seeing those videos of camera beginners filming on a $30,000 RED and an expert filming on a $600 DSLR because it proves time and time again that the only real difference is experience and knowledge. If you have those two, you can make your situation work.
You can't just put something in front of a fancy camera and expect people to care.
Cinematography derives from the Greek roots kinema (movement) and graphein (to write).
Capture your idea, emotions, words, and tone nonverbally.
What do I attribute this to? Really simple: I knew the task (imitate Wes Anderson)
- quirky edits/movement
- stylized text
- vibrant color
- symmetrical composition
You need to get better at imitating the greats, anon.
