What I'm gathering here is that very few people in the thread knew someone gay while growing up. If they did, they would understand the importance of camps like this that help gay adolescents deal with complicated social pressures they're under, and how to love themselves.

There's an odd assumption that a 14-17 year old is mature, responsible, and intelligent enough to handle operating a machine that can easily kill people, or can manage being part of the adult workforce (complete with taxes) but is not able to make choices regarding sex.
