I am open to everything except:
rocks
troll's with sticks
All sorts of dragons
Mrs. Cake
Huje green things with teeth
Any kind of black dogs with orange eyebrows
Rains of spaniel's
fog.
Mrs. Cake
guy who objects to the little mermaid being black but only because mermaids live underwater and wouldn't have experienced any evolutionary pressure towards melanized skin to protect from the sun
I don't understand the replies
why would I ever vote red
"If everyone votes red, nobody dies" okay sure, now make everyone vote red. Go ahead, do it. I'll wait.
Poll question from my 12yo:
Everyone responding to this poll chooses between a blue pill or red pill.
- if > 50% of ppl choose blue pill, everyone lives
- if not, red pills live and blue pills die
Which do you choose?
@Thinkwert
it's actually pretty sad; they control their flight based on the evolutionary assumption that the brightest thing around is the sky, so when we invented artificial light, they get trapped spiraling around it
I've never really understood the "bad at cooking" trope.
Sure, cooking professional quality food is very complicated, but cooking passably well is easier than pie. It's literally following instructions.
Like, okay. Effective altruism isn't literally perfect and is maybe bad for some specific people but on the other hand if it didn't exist a significant number of people who are alive right now would be dead and I feel like that kind of beats most counterarguments.
you know, there's probably enough of a certain type of girl in this part of the internet that a flirting strategy of explicitly saying "I'm flirting with you" could get you pretty far
video technology actually hasn't changed much since the 1980s. reality was just lower resolution back then. we didn't actually go high definition until the early 00s
if your childhood memories are hazy, well, that's just an accurate recollection
people really will believe anything except that eliezer yudkowsky has really, actually, seriously tried to lose weight without skipping any stupidly obvious solutions it takes them 10 seconds to think of because he's not a moron
a great thing about Twitter is that you might come across an account with a really cogent, insightful take on a complex issue and when you go to their profile their next tweet could just be "haha blowjob"
"but if more than 50% of people vote redβ"
okay but they don't, you're wrong, update your model of the voters accordingly
I would simply choose to win
I think it's good to have useful terms with clear, unambiguous meanings that don't change based on the characteristics of the referent
Gyno- and androsexual are obviously better than hetero- and homosexual in that regard
@ScribblerSys
@rdabasar
@gfodor
@danyisill
no they mean that every printer on earth is backdoored by the government to add nearly invisible patterns of yellow dots to everything they print that will tell them what printer the paper came from and maybe other information and that nobody knows how to read them
prof just emailed about students not buying the homework subscription yet. how do I politely word an email that makes it clear that I a) am broke, chose to survive, b) don't regret that decision, and recognize the penalty
@adrusi
oh, because it shifts evidence towards complex life being a bit easier to arise than we'd thought, which means, given a great filter, it becomes more likely the filter is still ahead rather than past
@IgneousSigil
@EladNehorai
I didn't read any value judgement into that, just a statement that, since Christianity used to be more the default than it is now, basically everyone went to church more regularly, and thus experienced third places much more regularly than non-church goers.
one of the hardest things about adulthood is feeding yourself. like I have to come up with 3 meals? every single day?? I love food but I would eat a tasteless grey smoothie with all the nutrients needed 3X a day if it meant I didnβt have to come up with meals
you are trying to touch the wrong grass using the wrong hands based on a wrong model of plants derived from being a shut-in and unfortunately all of your mistakes have failed to cancel out
@dmvaldman
The thing to do with a testable hypothesis is test it. Last time somebody told me to "touch grass", I actually did go outside and touch grass to see if it had any effect on mood. It didn't so far as I can tell.
I don't know why brands have such an intense aversion to their advertising appearing anywhere near NSFW stuff
like, the people who deliberately seek out porn DO NOT CARE if an ad for chipotle or whatever appears next to it; this will not make them associate chipotle with porn
This image has done irreparable damage to revolutionary forms of discourse, the goal is to silence, to get all revolutionary discourse to cease, and instead make us all accept reformism. This is why only reformists use the image and will use it against any revolutionary sentiment

Anybody else get that thing where you're about to fall asleep and still kinda feel awake but then suddenly realize that the thoughts you're thinking make absolutely no sense? Like, not even coherent. Very trippy.
@soft_fox_lad
soft fox lad: I can easily think of situations where I'd choose a windowless bedroom
all the commenters: you're wrong actually, I wouldn't do that

"hey I wanna figure out the truth behind a thing" is like what an elementary schooler thinks that grad students are supposed to be doing. I hope this person grows up eventually.
the problem is that i just expect trans girls to be cracked engineers, so when they start talking about super cool smart shit iβm like βyeah this tracksβ
but if they were cis guys/girls iβd be like βoh my god youβre the smartest person i knowβ
the first night of vibecamp I moped in my tent and called my parents and cried for an hour and a half about being unliked and unwanted and I thought curzi's thread was fine, funny even, and that vivid void's qt wasn't
I understand why he wrote it and what he was going for
> spotted him at the bar
> fixed his collar
> said βoh youβve got no one to do this for you?β
> seven mins later he asked me out
itβs not hard friends
I've finally figured out the secret to cracking eggs properly. You just have to bang them way harder than I thought. I was always so delicate because I was afraid of them exploding everywhere
I know nothing about this stone but I'm always vaguely skeptical when archeologists say stuff like "we don't know what this pretty thing was used for but it was probably religious"
like... are you sure it wasn't just pretty and rare???
In the ruins of Hattusa, once capital city of the Hittite kingdom, located near BoΔazkale in TΓΌrkiye, you will find a beautiful green stone of serpentinite or nephrite (jade). No one knows what this stone was used for but it possibly had some religious significance, since it is
I wonder if the reason older people who are trying still often have so much trouble with using the right name/pronouns with transes is because they have no practice associating arbitrary usernames/pfps with people on the internet
Mindset during 90% of flirting: I am a talentless worm. A fraud. They know it and they can smell it on me.
Mindset during 15 minutes after receiving one (1) headpat: I am a world historic cutie pie. A titan of the cuddle puddle.
Mindset during 90% of job market: I am a talentless worm. A fraud. They know it and they can smell it on me.
Mindset during 15 minutes after receiving one (1) email inviting to screener interview: I am a world historic genius. A titan of the mind.
I don't get Baldur's Gate
sure it seems good but I have no idea why people think this is the best thing since sliced bread
am I stupid or blind? what's going on here?
@Aella_Girl
The thing you need to understand about learning programming is that programmers are even worse than mathematicians at imagining what it is like to not understand programming or computers.
people say this, but I don't see the basis for it
there are lots of real posts on r/AITA and probably there are a fair amount of false ones, but I feel like y'all are drastically underestimating the variety of human experience if you think you can tell them apart
"i don't get why everyone reacts to those r/AITA posts, they're obviously fake"
True, most of them didn't literally happen, but they're modern fables; you're meant to discuss them with your peers, to better understand how to navigate the labyrinth of norms in which you live.
