Blown away by the response. Think I replied to everyone but DM if not. There is brilliant thinking out there which has shaped this work.

to name a few. Would love to hear thoughts on how I’ve tried to support teacher thinking
Finishing this off this afternoon.. always a labour of love. Really hope our teachers approve of how I’ve tried to pull together where we are, where we want to get to and how we’re going to reframe some thinking so we can get moving! Next year’s priority - responsive teaching

There it is for real! Hugely grateful to
@CharteredColl
for publishing my submission in Impact 21. My Grandad was a magazine editor and part time author in the 60s and 70s. I think he’d be pretty proud to see my name in print ✍️
A personal career goal achieved today with an article published in IMPACT
@CharteredColl
. Hopefully it’s useful and interesting for people! Incredible company to be keeping and
@EduPulseCo
is all about being in the conversation.
@MrChrisPassey
so grateful for our partnership
Excellent article on assessment & feedback by
@mradamkohlbeck
in the latest
@CharteredColl
Impact journal.
Teachers using ‘assessment booklets’ to record students’ misconceptions is a great idea. As is use of small reteaching groups prior to resumption of whole-class teaching.
Absolute honour to be included in impact issue 21 alongside some real edu heroes.
@CharteredColl
is a genuine asset to our profession and so happy I’ve been able to contribute
Congratulations to all the contributors to issue 21 of
@CharteredColl
Impact - great work
@LucasLearn
and all the authors, reviewers, and publishing team. 👏👏👏 it wasn’t too long ago 20 issues were marked with a special event
Had a great time talking to educators and doctoral students at the St.Marys university Pedagogy conference this morning 💪 One of my absolute favourite venues
Simply loved reading desirable difficulties in action. You know it’s a good one when the review just flies off the fingertips and that was definitely the case.

This one was an absolute joy to read and review. The buzz around it is totally justified and it’s a worthy addition to the set. It’s an absolute must read.

A month ago, we paused our IC programme to spend 4 weeks providing PD on giving feedback. Sometimes to move things forward requires stopping, consulting teachers and taking time to think. Relaunching this morning with an improved shared understanding

Thinking, decision making, insight, agency. All need to be developed to fully understand why you’re choosing one action or strategy in that moment, driven by context
@Dazzalee127320
@Mr_Raichura
So refreshing to hear someone say that ITT should be about this kind of practice. We could transform the whole profession in a matter of years! Anyone who sees issues with this video is reacting with personal bias IMO. We need more sharing of practice in this profession
Really looking forward to getting into concept driven curriculum with
@MrChrisPassey
in my first show for
@TTRadioOfficial
on Monday evening. Please tune in if you around and dive into the conversation with us!
@Sam_LGibbs
I think you might be getting quite a few mentions!

Surely this ‘script’ is an attempt to helpfully codify a set of effective principles? So, once the code has been mastered, teachers can engage fully with the principles and begin adapting.. that’s what I would always assume these things are.
@C_Hendrick
Agree with this. But, I also think there is increasingly a push from some very intelligent people to break teaching into a set of principles to guide decision making. Then the strategies become tools to be skilfully selected. To make this shift consistently, we need more CPD time

I think it's great that people share their T&L policies on here (I've shared ours in the past) but please don't forget- you shouldn't be trying to figure out your priorities by looking at someone else's policy. Go observe some lessons in your school instead.

@NLad84
MARGE model of learning in action from
@JohnCattEd
is great. Particularly one of the most useful takes on motivation I have read 💪
We are incredibly excited and very much humbled to be able to share this news. Hoping we can do the role of Deputy Head and the education community proud with our contribution. Huge thanks to all who have encouraged and supported so far. Let the writing begin!
Really looking forward to speaking at what looks set to be a brilliant conference. Some of these names are genuinely my education heroes and so many are so generous with their time. Humbled and star struck at the same time! If you’re coming along, would be great to see you there!
If you have Monday evening spare, come and have a listen to
@PaulCline_psy

@TTRadioOfficial
I’m super excited for this one and if you have an interest or curiosity in PD, I can promise there’ll be loads to take away
Brilliant third session of our curriculum leaders course for
@ThePiXLNetwork
on Tuesday evening. Had me working hard to keep up with the chat on a couple of occasions! This cohort is full of some great people pushing evidence informed curriculum approaches in their schools 💪
On 10th June, we have the final session in the
@ThePiXLNetwork
curriculum leadership course. As part of the session, I’m joined for a panel session by Mick Waters and the PiXL Primary team. What are your top curriculum leadership questions? What should absolutely be discussed?
Whether you’re a fan of Mondays or not, I’m pretty sure

NEW PODCAST EPISODE
S1 E2: In Conversation with David Didau
A whistle-stop tour of things
@DavidDidau
thinks are important to our ITT and ECT colleagues and education today before delving into his latest book, Bringing the English Curriculum to Life.
Rounded off today with a 45 minute online session on curriculum coherence for Greenwich university. Thanks as always to Roger McDonald and to the students and partners who came along. Hopefully a bit of value added!

the pub next door knows how passionate I am about this one so they let me in before opening!
@MorgsEd
1. Pritesh Raichura’s example of turn + talk coupled with all hands up is a piece of art in this conversation.
2. Even if you dislike these strategies, this is a super valuable question. As an NQT, I thought participation was all about charisma. I could have done with this list.
Really looking forward to celebrating all that we’ve achieved alongside these wonderful people!
This week I have been finalising our events for 2024/25 - it’s going to be a belter - new locations with new voices (and some familiar ones)!
Don’t miss out & join us on 10th June!
@Sam_LGibbs
@MrChrisPassey
@BobCox_SFE
We’ve got pretty strong evidence that it can be applied right down to Year 1. Less evidence in terms of the words on the page for obvious reasons but in terms of how they talk about text and connect within and across, it’s pretty remarkable stuff
What is a concept driven curriculum and how can it support learning through schema building? This is our start point for my show on Monday evening on

@MrChrisPassey
Hope to hear you there!
This is just lovely. I love when people take an idea and then want to keep in contact while they figure out how to adapt, improve or change for their context. Thanks so much for the feedback
@niamhowens
@mradamkohlbeck
I just read your article…wow oh wow… such a simple step that has made a massive impact. I love the creation of the booklets and the resulting teacher professional conversations that have occurred. This is what I hope to achieve and you have inspired me to keep

This fits her style, her class really well and she is making that choice because she we have consciously moved the decision closer to the (contextual) knowledge to quote David Marquet. Yes, we have also given her the knowledge of the choices she has but the decision is hers
Who’d be a Headteacher?? Tune in tonight at 18:00 on
@TTRadioOfficial
to hear Swabra Lloyd (
@larbaws1

Two years of hard work, meeting inspiring people and pushing my thinking all culminated in a pretty stunning graduation ceremony on Monday.
@NITE_org
Alex Hawthorn, Mirjam Buehler, Nigel Pattinson and the whole team, thank you for all you did for me.
Flipping through the current (excellent) edition of
@CharteredColl
Impact on my commute and thinking how I should send on to one of my MA students looking at assessment and then I notice the author is only
@mradamkohlbeck
mentor to said student! Great article Adam 👏👏👏
I've spent the last few years working with hundreds of schools, enough to spot some patterns and (I hope) to write some useful threads over the coming months.
Here's the first one...
In my opinion, what do primary schools commonly get wrong with their reading lessons? 🪡
Jody is doing some really impactful thinking around curriculum and alongside
@Sam_LGibbs
is leading the curriculum think tank. His contribution here will 100% enrich the next session in
@ThePiXLNetwork
curriculum leadership course 💪
@mradamkohlbeck
@Sam_LGibbs
@jon_hutchinson_
So, for primary, how do we know secondary schools can have a firm grasp on what students should/ shouldn’t know and how well they know it? This is perhaps a mix of curriculum, assessment and communication… I’ve been thinking about this for post 16 in my context.
Spending some time this morning prepping for Monday evening’s
@TTRadioOfficial
show with
@matthewfoy25
on leading assessment in the foundation subjects. Majorly helpful having
@Emma_Turner75
work to hand!
Listening to TDAPE and loved that
@Kieran_M_Ed
and
@Suchmo83
talk about manipulatives and get to the fact that something having good evidence on average makes it more important to unpack the conditions that lead to the greatest gains. Always great, intelligent conversation
@Sam_LGibbs
@isaacmoore7
My new HT and I were having a very in depth discussion about this yesterday. Keen to be involved in anything either of you are doing to look into this area.
@Sam_LGibbs
@PaulCline_psy
@TTRadioOfficial
Great points. You can work so hard to get Instructional coaching going and then undermine the culture you’re going for with other things that contradict it as well
Having a fantastic morning at
@UniofGreenwich
delivering this workshop to third year students on their last day on campus. Some seriously intelligent thinkers about to hit the classrooms of south east London
@S_Oberle
@PaulCline_psy
@EduPulseCo
Love the importance of finding every little way to keep it front and centre. Keeping it ‘active’ is a good term to use IMO.
Very proud of all at Birkbeck Primary school. Number 1 in Bexley for % of children at combined Expected and hugely, for Progress of Low prior attainers. Number 107 in the UK for combined. It’s not the only measure of effectiveness but it is testament to the work taking place 🏆

What I would like to see is developing understanding of broader classroom problems and goals (like holding students accountable for thinking and increasing participation) and then seeing strategies (like cold calling) as a set of options for application that teachers have
Monday evening 18-19:30, join

@Sam_LGibbs
@MrZachG
A curriculum approach for each teacher is essential IMO. Otherwise we end up moving from one disjointed step to the next instead of building practice block upon block. We risk missing an opportunity to show the connections that exist between different strategies otherwise
@adamboxer1
@naomicfisher
Pre-reading lots and a background knowledge check are super useful for struggling readers to access whole class reading. At my place, pupils who read slower than 110 words per minute have already seen the text at least twice prior to each reading lesson and know the background
@IRIS_Founder
@Nikki__Sullivan
Also think that it’s important for SLT to be really conscious of ensuring the teacher has agency and actually that this feels like a central aim of the relationship to avoid any chance of the teacher sat there trying to work out what the SLT wants them to say
@olicav
@Sam_LGibbs

I think the concepts develop through concrete examples (which there would be a mental model of) and the variation in examples and applications develops the schema of the wider concept itself. That’s my interpretation so far in any case!
If you’re leading coaching in your school, pause where you are and give this book a read. Its a certainty to improve your IC development planning and thinking
I'm proud to announce that my new book Responsive Coaching is out now 💥
It's the product of 10+ years coaching, 3 years writing, and a year testing in school, and aims to help coaches to be as impactful and useful as possible 💪
Our website is now live… (and open for feedback, sharing, liking and comment!) a place where hopefully we can contribute something small but beneficial to this brilliant profession. As such, this brilliant post from

felt like the perfect place for us to start- enjoy
Co-director

wrote a piece inspired by

Our post looks, albeit fleetingly, at the links between being vulnerable and meaningful impact in school leadership, with a nod to

Privileged to spend part of this morning sharing some insights about Instructional coaching with the Empower trust.
@carlawhelan
thank you for having me!

I split from my son’s mum almost 10 years ago. I was always very close to her little sister (who was 9 when we split). She’s now 19 and wanting work ex. before going to uni (possibly teaching) and she’s asked me for advice. I’ve never been this kind of proud of anyone in my life
In case you missed my show with Swabra Lloyd on

Would love to hear any thoughts!

If it’s of any comfort to you, that post is incredibly reassuring for someone who is currently co-writing a book and feels imposter syndrome every time I open the laptop!
Fantastic way to spend early Friday evening, delivering a workshop to 120 committed students from Greenwich university on the path from phonics to fluency. Thanks
@UniofGreenwich
and Suzy Halis for the invite and I hope it was useful
Even if slightly biased, last night’s show is well worth a listen. Swabra Lloyd (
@larbaws1
) was brilliant in giving an open, honest and genuinely interesting insight into why anyone would want to be a Head! You won’t be disappointed!
@TTRadioOfficial
News just in! Time to Think 2 is out at the end of May and available for pre order now. Thanks to school colleagues for reviewing it and suggesting some of the issues we face in our teams - buy in, deep work, working with introverts and extroverts, galvanising teams and more!
