I am OBSESSED with our ‘How to Steal Christmas’ instructions based on The Grinch 🎄
The children loved it and I’m so proud of how much effort they put into their presentation ✨
Thank you
@chloef23
for the inspiration 🖤
I do find it incredibly unfair in teaching that I go on residential and get no extra pay or time in lieu AND taught online despite having Covid, but to miss two hours of work for a funeral I have to take it unpaid 😞
Inference lesson today: each group started with a pair of shoes and had to make inferences about the owner. Then, they were given a picture to develop their ideas. Finally, they had a section of a story to make further inferences about the character. Y6 were so engaged!
One thing I love about teaching primary is you can be the worst artist, but whenever you draw the kids will act like you’re Michelangelo unveiling the Sistine Chapel.
✨ Circle Books ✨
One of my favourite ways of presenting learning!
This time round, we did one circle per continent to make our ‘globe’. The class worked in groups of 3 to create one as a team, sharing facts and ideas to make it the best they could 🌍
I’ve had one of those Sundays where I’m sat wondering how much longer I want to teach or if I’m good enough, yet no idea what other job I’d go into. Anyone else have those?
One of my favourite lessons to teach sentences types is using Gary Provost’s model, which children then use as a starting point for their own creative write about how sentences can sound and feel ✨
This is full of my own book reviews for children to read and make decisions on what they would like to choose! Can’t wait to have this in the book corner in September.
Thanks
@_tarasteaching
for this amazing idea ✨📚
Just been on a course and was told about ‘’.
Type in or paste whatever text you like and it will tell you each word class in the sentence! Such a useful tool. 👀
The fact she’s turned off her comments says it all. If you’re going to be bold enough to give an opinion like this, you should at the very least be willing to enter a discussion….
I have a child in my class doing his first Ramadan in school. Today, I completed a day of fasting with him so I can understand more about how he might feel, but also why Ramadan is celebrated. Really glad I did, and I think he was, too!
Just heard a school does 2 days off a year for all staff, no questions asked, as long as it’s covered in house. I can’t imagine how valued staff feel and how good this might be for wellbeing! ✨
Started off the ‘Iron and Bronze Age’ section of our topic with VocAPPulary!
Each word needs a definition and an ‘app’ cover displaying what the meaning is. Useful to look back on throughout the term! 📱✨
I love being in the classroom and the actual teaching of the job. I’ve never wanted to do anything else…
But I have to admit, I’m getting so disillusioned with the profession 😔
Next term, we are having a ‘Secondary School’ week for Y6! They will each have the timetable, go to different classrooms and be taught their subjects by different teachers! I am so excited to see how it goes...and super grateful for all the other teachers & TAs for helping! ✨
✨ AUTHOR OF THE WEEK ✨
@CassHT
& I have created an author of the week resource either for class discussion or display. It has 46 authors (one for each school week + bonus authors!) - hope it’s useful! 📚🥰
To reduce the stress when SATs hit, I thought it might be really helpful to have a thread of useful resources for Year 6 teachers to share which help teach tricky concepts, revise or just good activities.
If you have something which you love using, pop it below! 👇🏼
The cat is finally out of the bag...🐱
I have a new job as KS3 Transition Teacher 🥰 ✨
I am SO sad to be leaving my current school as it’s been so incredibly supportive, but I am really excited to get stuck into a new challenge!
We had so much fun making these before that we had another go in our bubble! Each circle represents a continent - they filled them with any information they liked! I was so impressed with how they did 🌍
A child in my class brought in a card she’d made using this design earlier in the week, so today she taught the whole class how to make them! It was such a lovely last day activity🎄✨
This morning my class came in silently. I was at my laptop getting the register up. I turned round to find them all sat in different spaces in an April Fools they had ‘planned for days’ bless them 😂✨
Today is the launch of the
#TeacherSelfcareSunday
website! We are so excited to share this with you and hope it extends the community even further!
Today’s giveaway is a bundle of
#TSS
goodies. Just RT & like to win! ✨
After leaving a toxic work environment, this week has proved to me that a positive environment with supportive leadership is vital when working at a school. I am so glad I didn’t quit! ✨ Week one, done! 🙌🏼
Started putting
@CassHT
reading questions into a book each week once the new one goes up. Such a fab record of all the brilliant answers we’ve had! ✨
(Thank you to the person who started doing this first - please shout me so you have the credit!)
I’ve always had my work emails on my phone, ever since I started 7 years ago.
Today, I’ve made an active decision to delete the app so I can only see them when I’m on my work laptop.
I think I’ve made a good choice 🙌🏼
Had parent’s evening tonight and one parent told me how excited her child is to come to school every day because I’m her teacher and it was just what I needed to hear today 🖤
RIP to the woman who got me interested in baking & cooking; who taught me to shop and take shots; who showed me how to be kind and generous; who shared secrets with me and had a wicked sense of humour; who, most importantly, gave me a second home.
Love you Grandma 🖤
One of my favourite things I introduced this year (but have improved for next year by adding the inserts!) is DVD case whiteboards.
The inserts & squared paper - as well as lots of other designs - are all on
@twinklresources
👏🏻👏🏻
Upcycled DVD cases into mini whiteboards! Not only can they be used to show answers, but sheets can go into the inserts & become wipeable, & key info can be stored inside! 🤩
The kids loved them as much as me!
A fab idea from
@twinklresources
#TwinklAmbassador
I know classes tell every teacher they’re their favourite, but today a child said he thinks I’m his favourite teacher ever because ‘before Year 6 I was dumb but you’ve made me feel smart’ 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Yesterday on break duty, a child ran past me and knocked my Biscoff Brownie out of my hand and into a puddle.
I am honestly still devastated about it now.
Today in our history lesson we made circle books of the different colour poppies, Flanders Fields and what Armistice Day is. I think the class did such an amazing job 😍
If you want a fun activity to do with Year 6 (or Year 5!) next term, a Career’s Week is brilliant! I’ve started setting mine up ready; the idea is for the children to explore a wide range of jobs that they might not otherwise experience or consider.
Resources linked below 🧵☺️
VIRTUAL CAREERS WEEK ✨
I’ve developed an online careers week for Year 6 that includes over 30 different jobs 😊. Each job has a slide & matching activity to build a ‘portfolio’. All included in the Dropbox below!

Throwback to when I was in such a toxic work environment that I developed shingles through stress. Just thinking about going to work made me ill.
Find the right school for you. Nothing is worth your poor health - physical OR mental 🖤
Today I GOT A NEW JOB 🎉🥳
I’ve always been a big believer that everything happens for a reason; I am genuinely so excited about the next academic year and beyond ✨
This time last year, I didn’t return to school after the half term; I was signed off with anxiety after working in a place where I was always being told I was ‘poor’ at my job.
What a difference a year makes. 👏🏻
In
@Waterstones262
and hear the best exchange:
Boy: I don’t have enough money for both books
Dad: You don’t have to use your own money for books! I’ll buy you the ones you want
I wanted to start clapping 👏🏻🥺
The house isn’t tidy, the tree isn’t down and I’m sat on the sofa in my pyjamas. Please tell me I’m not the only one in this predicament the day before we go back 😂😅
Earlier in the year I went for a drink and lunch on my own in the sunshine which I was surprised I enjoyed. Now I’m being brave and going to Bath on Friday for a whole day on my own! ✌🏼
It’s Mr Men Inheritance time in Science 🤩
We discussed which features are inherited, before creating ‘children’ using our new knowledge.
I absolutely love how brilliantly they’ve turned out ✨
My first 4 years of teaching were in a school where we feared observations because the head used them as a chance to tear you down. 3 schools on, I’m still SO nervous for them.
I’ve got one tomorrow. Please wish me luck! 🖤
My attention span is SO short at the moment. I keep flitting between lots of things for short amounts of time because I’m struggling to focus on anything.
Anyone else still feeling this way?!
Thanks
@Y5missross
for introducing me to scribble spellings! The children really enjoyed doing it and could focus on their own individual spellings. ✏️
Last night I got told a girl who sticks up for herself isn’t attractive and comes across as aggressive.
So I stuck up for myself and told him, in many different ways, how he was wrong 🥰
This lockdown has been the worst for my productivity, MH & general wellbeing & I know it’s the same for others
BUT
I’d rather this lockdown was as long as it needs to be, than rush it’s end and being back to square one in a few months time. We need to beat this once & for all!
Today, I had an outside visitor observe me and her parting comment was that she wished her child could be in my class 🥺
Is there a better compliment as a teacher?! 🫶🏻
‘It has always been easy to hate and destroy. To build and to cherish is much more difficult.’ - Queen Elizabeth II
Words we can all live by, I think, as we spend time today to reflect on the life of an inspirational woman.

Don’t get me wrong, I feel lucky to have the summer holidays but I also find my anxiety hugely spikes in the last week to the point some days I find it completely unmanageable because it’s such a shift in routine🥺
Please tell me I’m not the only one 😅
This outfit is size 14, which, at the time, I resented buying. I’ve hated my body all summer, and hated most photos. I’ve even cried about it.
But
@_MissieBee
post made me realise I need to be more positive and stop criticising myself constantly!
All bodies are beautiful ✨
Ever since a child told me they dreaded the holidays as they had nothing to do a few years ago, I’ve made sure to make a holiday activity pack for each child in my class ever since. Sometimes, a small thing can make a big difference ✨
So there I was in my (for once) calm, quiet classroom. The children were really working hard to write their Ancient Egyptian myths.
When not one, but two, cats stroll into my classroom. 🐱🐱
Two children in my class struggle with presentation & doodling in their book. Now, they have a ‘doodle spot’ on their table to use instead. Because they have to switch pens to use it, it’s already having an impact on limiting this, & they love having them! 🙌🏼
The best thing about Twitter is making friends for life. Who would have known when we started talking that I’d be at your wedding?!
The biggest congratulations
@_MissieBee
- the most gorgeous bride 🖤
It’s so hard that one person can have such a hold on your career. You can be so ready to progress, but sometimes if your face doesn’t fit, you don’t get the opportunity to.
Last night I was gutted I got bleach on one of my jumpers (as well as smashing a wine glass. Adult life is hard).
Today I decided to embrace it and reverse tie-dye the whole thing! It’s probably not to everyone’s taste but I love it 😍😍😍
If it’s good for your MH & wellbeing to work in the holidays, then work.
If it’s good for your MH & wellbeing to switch off, then switch off.
If it’s good for your MH & wellbeing to do both, then do both.
Your summer, your choice 👌🏼✨
I am so excited to announce that
#TeacherSelfcareSunday
is being launched as a website, with a view to run a wellbeing conference later in the year!
To celebrate we have a giveaway each day until Sunday, starting with a
#TSS
mug & hot chocolate!
Just like & RT to enter!
Kindness Calendar 🎄
Each day, a child’s name will be picked from the kindness advent calendar. For that day, the class have to make an extra effort to make their day a bit brighter 🖤
I am OBSESSED with our ‘How to Steal Christmas’ instructions based on The Grinch 🎄
The children loved it and I’m so proud of how much effort they put into their presentation ✨
Thank you
@chloef23
for the inspiration 🖤
Loving the addition of our ‘currently reading’ boards to our display! Now, anyone who comes in our classroom, as well as other pupils in the class, can see what books we are enjoying! 📚✨
(I can’t remember who these were originally from so please shout me if it was you!)
We used Where’s Wally as our morning task to answer questions using skimming, scanning and inference. Each table had a different picture & questions and were really engaged in discussion & sharing answers! 👍🏻
I don’t know about anyone else but my MH is suffering much more in this lockdown and we’re not even a week in.
Finding it quite hard to be positive about anything today.
Every year on 23rd December, my Grandma and I would spend it baking and getting lots of festive treats ready.
Today is the first year I’ll be doing it on my own 💔 I miss her always but today is just a little bit harder.
