Nobody disputes a Jewish presence in the region - they dispute that fact justifies removing other residents at gun point.

They have never bee offered a peace deal that is remotely reasonable or involved either meaningful sovereignty or a land that even looks like a state.
@mishtal
Israel is responsible for its behaviour - having atrocities committed against you does not allow you to commit atrocities - the laws around War Crimes is quite clear on this issue.
@danielgoyal
Gas prices are set by the markets and the regulatory oversight is weak at best - Labour has no plan to change this or nationalise gas so this poor lady would freeze under Labour too. We need need new options that are meaningfully different.

The occupied territories is more than just Gaza - the never ending expansion of settlements, massive territory losses since 1948.
@Pudseycat67
@Spriter99880
Isn't that exactly the point? If he needs a card then perhaps should be retired rather than stumbling about shaking hands with absent figures, wandering off stage, launching nuclear weapons, ...
@Spriter99880
A silly withdrawal - when Venice was the end of the Silk Roads into Europe they boomed and the beauty we see today is from that period. Once the roads were bypassed Venice went into decline.

@upholdreality
Perhaps, but it also seems an easy way to keep up the claim that socialism doesn't work by simply claiming its not socialism when it is shown to work in China - at least in terms of economic progress.
@RachelMoiselle
Palestinians have a right to self determination - which means Israel should not evict them from their ancestral lands and pretend they are behaving morally.
@davidschor
@caitoz
Not really here is a book well worth reading on this failure, or you can stick to a discourse that paints Palestinians as unreasonable etc
@ARLinklater
@theiaincameron
*Sigh* - they are literally selling an experience - this is commodity fetishism and commodification of human endeavour and the exploitation of the Sherpas labour for ego-tourism. Clearly capitalism at work.
@McFaul
@NBCNews
The USA sanctioned members of the ICC and The US state department has also restricted the issuance of visas for ICC staff involved in "efforts to investigate US personnel". Hypocrites of the worst kind. SO a rules based international system only for some?
@caitoz
The discourse around this and other conflicts leaves no room for rational discussion or nuance. One is expected to pick a side, forget history and shy away from inconvenient facts that complicate the issues beyond a daft binary of good versus bad.
@Peterinexile
Calling Xi a dictator strips the word of meaning and reveals that you do not understand anything about Chinese politics or how their system functions.

MPs votes are literally part of the public record. Democracy demands their votes be known by the public they are supposed to serve.
@ClareDalyMEP
The right to self-determination means that people have the right to determine their political status, economic, social and cultural development, the right to choose one's own government, and the right to control natural resources and economic activities within one's territory.

No - Munich to Paris can be done in less than 6 hours usually longer with a change but not so bad around 8 hours. A flight is more expensive and once you add in journey to the airport, 3 hours prior, the flight, delays etc 8 hours is lost anyway.
@KevOmnipotent
@Culture_Crit
They have mummies of people who were listed as stone cutters etc - they also know how old they are etc - mot as mysterious as people think.
@TMasudin
A child lashed out due to a lifetime of oppression - so yes a child here is a victim - this is the same reason a 14 year old is sentenced as a child not as an adult.
@Brad_Setser
The savings are also not under pillows but deposited in banks that invest the money so again not a sound argument. Blowing the money would fuel consumption in the short term but lead to a crash in the future.
@ElbridgeColby
As stated already the USA is creating a security dilemma in the South Pacific and one that makes the whole world less secure but perhaps hastens a new word order that is fairer than the current one.

@macastel3
The America Competes Act of 2022, authorising US$52 billion to subsidise semiconductor manufacturing, US$45 billion to strengthen supply chains of critical goods and US$160 billion for scientific research and innovation. EU also does this massively.
@ElbridgeColby
Threatening to blow up the semi-conductor factories (and the scientists working there presumably) seems rather aggressive - maybe you have a skewed view of the world?
@guardian
The fact that he claims he is moving strongly suggests he is domiciled in the UK - so his claim of non-dom status is clearly untrue. He pays almost nothing to the treasury so who cares if he leaves. There should be a wealth tax which would apply to all his properties in the UK.

They are literally not allowed tor return to Palestine - no right of return for Palestinians and their land is still being stolen today in the West Bank - the occupied territories.

That is a child and a propane tank. Even if true she was making a bomb she is allowed to resist against military occupation.

As a young man...oh sorry it's 1/2/1 - butter/flour/sugar - so for a pie plate size crumble 50g butter/100g flour/50g sugar can use brown or normal sugar - don't forget to add sugar to the apples/etc

The West Bank is a brutal Apartheid system where Palestinians live in Bantustans deprived of basic freedoms and the settlers are backed by military might with freedom of movement.
@shi_huang5
Leaving Africa long ago had nothing to do with progress or advanced society - it was just hunter-gatherers wandering where they could. The successive waves of groups of people melded and changed. What we see as progress is incidental to the last 200 years.
@NowTheEndBegins

The destruction of civilians and mass bombing of cities in WW2 was wrong then too so it is not a great comparison to try and make.

If they are proposing a three term year then arrange teaching for each staff in two only to avoid issues of burnout and overwork - not ideal but a fix for an untenable situation.
@anderscorr
The USA maintains its embargo on Cuba despite overwhelming global condemnation - the UK still holds the Chagos Islands as a colony that they lease to the USA - again with UN condemnation. So both too are rogue states by many measures.
@Mr_Andrew_Fox
They have a right to self determination and they have rights not to be kicked off their land and out of their homes. How many years of land loss and continued oppression must they endure? Israelis have no more right to a state then they do.
@JamesKneale
If the University of Manchester capped student numbers in programmes such as Politics and reduced their first year intake by 100 other universities in the North West would thrive - they currently take about 600 in first year.
@SamRamani2
My research is with communities that experienced a real genocide and I constantly have to add in that it was a real genocide. The term is being watered down to mean any bad event as they hope it triggers a response.
@Mr_Andrew_Fox
The deals were never fair or just. Britain had no right to give away any land in 1948 and the continued land theft in the West Bank is also against International law and basic human decency. A one state solution is the only one that will bring peace.
@Brad_Setser
The Chinese culture of savings leads to consumption smoothing during rough times in economic speak - the notion that they should blow all their money to keep the economy hot is inflationary and not well thought out.
@ElbridgeColby
Jesus said, “Blessed are the peacemakers, because they will be called sons of God” (Matt. 5:9). You keep beating the drums of war and seem rather keen on being a peace breaker.

International laws and state behaviour in war was updated since 1945 due to the awful brutality so it was not to be repeated. What is happening in Gaza is clearly war crimes even by 1945 standards.

In 2006 Israel bombed the power station in Gaza, there is not enough land to grow enough food, and desalination plants are energy intensive. Israel runs a blockade so your claims don't fit the actual context.

JFK never stopped the Vietnam war. He pulled some troops out but then approved of the coup in South Vietnam and was sending in more advisors and was going to send troops.

This seems like a strong moral stance - can we give back the Chagos islands so we are consistent in our moral stances and not acting as colonial terrorists in that case?

Socialism would see state schools brought up so that all can succeed according to their ability. This labour policy is cheap politics and offers no solution to inequality and will only hurt families who scrape by to afford the fees at decent schools.

American and European companies offshore all the time for often the same reasons. The American tariffs are anti-free trade and expose their base hypocrisy.

But your solution is simply a classic Security dilemma - more bases, more arms, in an endless spiral of a new Cold War. Maybe try de-escalation and less bases, less arms.

The West Bank is clearly a series of Bantustans where the Palestinians are living in isolated 'homelands' while illegal settlers (over700,00 now) steal their land while Palestinians are subject to closed security fences, not allowed to travel freely, no rights, - Apartheid.
