@AlottaMalotta That really sucks. I’m sorry. You work very hard to build bridges while others are trying to divide. Its awful to see people take that as an opportunity to make personal attacks.

How do you send your 11yo to a place where this is the school culture for middle school? Take a peek at the pages in the google drive. It looks like a wholesome kids book, doesn’t it? Maybe it will be about gay penguins. Who doesn’t love gay penguins?

I am equally interested to see who is benefiting from the status quo. Have you spoken WITH the parents of dyslexic kids, former teachers, or even primary teachers? Are you interested in a twitter space where people can discuss these issues in real time?

Embarrassing and interesting who is against this and who persists in misrepresenting it (probably selling something)

Open Schools parents may have been on the losing side; I’m not convinced it was the wrong one. Right, @DrJBhattacharya ? “It's time for America to grapple with the damage we've done to our nation's children in an effort to reduce the risk to ourselves.”

@mandylorianM @Mrs_Wld_History @Debra_Tisler Open School parents didn’t accomplish a thing. Schools in Virginia were ALWAYS scheduled to open when they did.

@bethanyshondark My biggest regret is believing in the public schools and not believing in myself. Almost anyone can homeschool. There are great academic programs if desired, social co-ops, & that small group or one-on-one attention is so beneficial. If I could redo it, I’d have kept them home.

@Moms4Liberty @rweingarten @4TiffanyJustice I’d love to see this as a panel discussion, @rweingarten . Do it for the parents, teachers, &/or adults who care about education and are sick of the politics. Please. Thanks.

@ehanford It’s a terrible feeling. I found out when my child was diagnosed with dyslexia. I learned that the things I’d been doing to help him at home, and as a teacher with my own students, weren’t effective for the majority of kids. I even have master’s degree in reading. Thanks, BL. :(

@WalkerBragman School-aged kids and families got screwed over. We were told schools would open, but they didn’t- and opening was pushed back two weeks at a time, making it difficult to plan for childcare or instruction. The wealthier parents paid for open private schools (sometimes in other

The last three years have been f-ing hard. School refusal, bullying, exclusion, dyslexia & the ridiculous lengths you have to go to get them help. I think I’ve aged 50 years and it’s embarrassing, alienating, and sad when you just want your kids to be well adjusted and included.

It's not just traumatising for children. Parents suffer too. They tell me they have flashbacks of what they did when they thought that they couldn't listen to the child's distress, for fear of everything getting worse and being seen as a bad parent. 11/

@JenniferSey I opposed school choice when I was a public school teacher for all the common reasons. Now that I know only 1/3 of kids graduate with proficiency in language arts and most politicians send their kids to private schools, I’m 100% pro choice. Most can’t afford 10-20k tuition.

@Nicoletta0602 Standing up and speaking is hard, but it’s so much harder when you’re one of the only ones doing it. I wish there were less saying “thank you” and more saying public comments.

What do we think of the Waldorf school philosophy? Montessori? We have a child who scores high on academic testing, loves to learn, naturally curious, very verbal, loves the outdoors, needs to be social- cannot do the school structure.

I don’t post about our eldest much now- he’s at the age where he doesn’t want me to, but a quick update! He has grown from a struggling, shy child to a confident, brave kid who knows what he is about. He is doing well in school, has the kindest group of friends, is trying new

Today should be my mom’s 68th birthday, but it’s our second without her here. She was an incredible mother and grandmother who is remembered and missed so much. Life is incredibly unfair. Hug &/or call your mom today if you can.
