This really upsets me. A 90yo shouldn’t have to manage the shock & stress of the loss of routine & relationships, along with the shame of being kicked out. Worse still is how this org has undermined its cause by prioritizing a culture war. Edu does the same.

They also don’t always/often notify parents when the kids can’t read, write, spell, or numerate- but they don’t want you to have school choice, either. Wild.
I live in Illinois. I think it’s acceptable to question where the budget is going when the kids aren’t learning to read, write, & numerate.
Why aren’t we all asking?
This is a perfect example of how the right wing weaponizes concerns about reading proficiency to make a political point, and suggest that because reading proficiency is low, school budgets are too big? 🤷♀️
My kids have been back in school, full time, for a week. I swear our kinder took a six month leap in academics/maturity just by starting hybrid in January.
The improvement for both of them now, full time, is immeasurable.
We can’t ever let schools close like this again.
We talk about how schools aren’t teaching reading, spelling, writing, civics… and now math. We talk about how awful behavior is & how it impacts kids there to learn..

What are parents for if they don't make their kids do homework and they are out there pushing their false claims instead of spending time with their kids? How did a 4th grader get to the 4th grade without being able to read and write before the parents noticed? REALLY?!?!
The boys are doing well in school. There's no bullying.. no coming home and crying.. no refusing to go. They're doing homework willingly. I'm not cringing whenever there's a call because it's probably bad news. I'm actually getting things done!

Why?
What is the point of painting parents as far right extremists?
What is the point of saying they’re trying to erase people?
Who does this division help?
“Mom groups” are a direct response to years of families feeling unheard, unwelcome, untaught, & unwanted.
Of feeling
There is no "divisiveness" in our community.
There's far-right extremism attempting to rewrite history and erase marginalized groups.
There are astroturfed groups, funded by those who aim to destroy public education.
There's an effort to weaponize parenthood.

My biggest regret is believing in the public schools and not believing in myself. Almost anyone can homeschool. There are great academic programs if desired, social co-ops, & that small group or one-on-one attention is so beneficial.
If I could redo it, I’d have kept them home.
The last three years have been f-ing hard.
School refusal, bullying, exclusion, dyslexia & the ridiculous lengths you have to go to get them help.
I think I’ve aged 50 years and it’s embarrassing, alienating, and sad when you just want your kids to be well adjusted and included.
It's not just traumatising for children. Parents suffer too. They tell me they have flashbacks of what they did when they thought that they couldn't listen to the child's distress, for fear of everything getting worse and being seen as a bad parent. 11/
