This is tiring. No, visa bans based on nationality are bad not because someone will "use them as propaganda". They are bad because they are discriminatory, go against basic human rights and basic human decency. And, yes, people suggesting those for Russians *are* Russophobes.

@Volod_Ishchenko I could never understand this. :-( There are literally thousands and thousands of Soviet UKR heroes from WWII. Not even generals, "ordinary" people. Why are they never celebrated in the modern UKR? :-( Why would it hurt?

I doubt anyone expects them to. ~42% are ready for some sort of compromise (~51% are not). And 61% of those who come from the East where most of the fighting is (~36% are not).

@aaron_schwa No. "отъебаться" is to FO. E.g. "Трамп, отъебись от России!" "съебаться" is to run away. E.g. "Ручка Скрипаля намазана, съебываемся." BTW (since you are bound to ask) "доебаться" is to harass someone. E.g. "Трамп доебался до Хуайвей"

It's amazing how a narrative created by Western pundits and media clouds the minds of even the most balanced researchers. The 2008 conflict timing was picked by Saakashvili. So the only question here is whether Zelensky follows that path. I highly doubt anyone thinks so, though.

An interesting consideration is whether Russia wants to start a significant escalation while China is hosting the Olympics. The last time China hosted an Olympics, the Russia-Georgia War occurred. Not sure if that is a factor or not.

@ArtyomLukin US politics has lots of inertia and is not at all about any coherent strategy. Winning the next election in the next couple of years is the horizon. Russia is much more convenient as a scapegoat. No racist overtones, no "Russian American" lobby. Expect little change.

@bneeditor We should really get away from the "pro-Ukraine" label. Ukrainians who are friendly to Russia are as much Ukrainians as those who are not. All of the them are "pro-Ukraine" even if their views on the world differ. The rest is AC propaganda, which we should avoid.

Framing Russo-Ukrainian relations as "colonial" is mostly used for the purposes of current political discourse. Actual history is much different (although not without pain & injustice).

While I am tempted to agree with @McFaul on emotional grounds, I would take an exception on academic grounds, for two reasons. First, Western colonial enterprise in Africa and Asia was based on economic exploitation underpinned by a racist ideology.
