Just re-upping this. Psychopath Night. Autumn 2024. A show based on my book The Psychopath Test but with lots of new material and mystery guests. There are shows in the UK, Ireland, Australia, NZ, and now NEW YORK CITY. Tix:
Big NYC news. I’ve never done a Psychopath Test US show before, but I’m bringing Psychopath Night (well, Psychopath Afternoon) to Symphony Space, Sept 22. Mystery guests! PLUS new Psychopath shows in Aus and NZ and tix for the UK and Ireland HERE
I worked with Matthew Perry nine years ago and got to know him a little. He was extremely thoughtful and generous, even letting us stay in his home, for no reason other than kindness. Anyway, when someone is that kind, you should let people know, hence this tweet.
These reports about a rise in anxiety: I wonder if some other fellow long-term sufferers also feel weirdly calm. My theory is that we rehearse catastrophic what-if situations in our heads so often when a real crisis happens we're quite good at it.
I'm going to tell you my Concorde story. Many years ago the UK radio presenter Chris Evans was supposed to go on a private plane to Minneapolis to meet Prince. They had a spare seat and asked me if I wanted it. I said, "YES I DO."
It's a weird prison that people like Piers Morgan and Katie Hopkins have trapped themselves in - fucked-up pantomime villains needing to be yelled at daily.
This pandemic is bringing out the best in the best people and the worst in the worst. Helpful, considerate people are being more so than ever, but impulsive, irresponsible people are too. It's like a wild amplification of our character traits.
This is Macaroni. She has a question. Wondering if because she had an early breakfast she could maybe also have an early dinner. 12/10 seems reasonable
For a person my age Monty Python was like punk and the Beatles and Peter Cook all rolled into one. I never stopped listening to the albums. And on the few occasions I met Terry Jones he was incredibly nice. What's better than being funny and kind?
Earlier today a man WRONGLY accused me of jumping the line at breakfast. I told him I actually was ahead of him. He then repeated what I said back to me in a slightly mocking voice. So I said “apology accepted” and walked away. I believe I won.
The man who designed the Brooklyn Bridge sat in a nearby house the whole time watching the construction through binoculars, and if he had any comments he'd get his wife to tell them, which is how I'm going to do everything from now on for the rest of my life.
Piers Morgan blocked me for basically (and I confess repeatedly) telling him I couldn't understand why he didn't see Trump as a danger. Since the Capitol incursion has he admitted that those of us with Trump Derangement Syndrome maybe weren't so deranged after all?
Hey, would it help anyone if I did a series of daily writing tips? Advice for people wanting to write during the lockdown? I'll try not to disincentivize.
Christian Cooper says he doesn't want Amy Cooper charged— says he won't cooperate with the Manhattan DA.
"She’s already paid a steep price— that’s not enough of a deterrent to others? Bringing her more misery just seems like piling on.”
Here's a brand new trailer for TraumaZone - Adam Curtis's show about Russia 1985 - 1999, though I'm noticing echoes of other societies. It'll be out on BBC iPlayer Oct 13.
trying to stop pregnant turtles from getting hit by cars between the pond and our house, by jumping into the road and yelling, and also by wheelbarrowing them to safety, has become an unexpected full time job.
1/3 Hello, I have news! I’ve spent all year working on a new podcast for
@BBCRadio4
. THINGS FELL APART. It’s eight strange, human, unexpected stories from the history of the culture wars. It starts Nov 9.

When my son was a child, I found it impossible to watch children in peril movies. Now he's 21 I have no problem at all watching children in peril movies, but I find it impossible to watch dogs in peril movies.
Late to this, and I know about the fairytale ending, but when The Men Who Stare At Goats was published, I did a reading in Birmingham where four people turned up. During the Q&A one of them said, "I don't know why you seem annoyed with us. We're the ones who came."
I've just watched rough cuts of my friend Adam Curtis's imminent new series 'Can't Get You Out of My Head - An Emotional History of the Modern World'. It is brilliant and the range of stories are amazing. Mao's wife Jiang Qing and Afeni Shakur are especially great. Also...
Katie Hopkins goes on Israeli show to talk about her "documentary" about Jews leaving France "because of Muslims" - clearly expecting an easy ride - and gets absolutely ripped to shreds by host and guest
@ktHopkins
Normal People is really impressive! I'm three episodes in. I'm always super-impressed by writers who can take regular people with regular issues and have their psychologies unfold in such riveting, slow-burn ways. It's a hard thing to do!
The man at the pharmacy just asked me if I was older or younger than 65. I said “significantly younger.” He quickly said, “I’d say.” But the damage was done.
I keep thinking about

’s So You’ve Been Publicly Shamed which illustrates perfectly the dangers of internet shaming. We need to avoid the narrative where the tabloids are solely to blame for this tragedy. We all of us need to be more compassionate.
British TV and radio is consumed by this kind of oppositional nonsense. Whatever the topic, get two people who oppose each other to yell at one another. It's elitist, private school bollocks - seeing how a person deals with being shouted and sneered at.
I’ve sparked a bit of a debate from people who aren’t aware of what monica has been doing these past few years about why I think she’s heroic. I wrote this about her. If you read it you’ll probably agree
Prince's house: It was very nice if a little like a large shopping mall. I did not meet Prince but he did do a private concert for about 30 of us, where he played the hits. That was amazing.
I think we should try hard to not give other people little slaps on Twitter for a while. Connection is SO important when you're forced to isolate, especially people not used to it, and this really should be a nice place to visit. It'll help a lot.
Not often you see Anderson Cooper shed a tear on air. Leave it to Cornell West to eloquently and emotionally get to the heart of what's happening. This was powerful!
As I entered the lobby to get coffee they were taking the coffee away, so I yelled “Stop! Can I get some coffee?” And I ran towards him. I tell you, if anything more exciting than that has ever happened at this hotel I’d like to know.
NEW: Alexi McCammond has parted ways with Teen Vogue just two weeks after being appointed the new editor in chief, amid a wave of internal and external concerns over past racist and homophobic tweets
There's zero evidence that food is going to run out. Panic buying is totally selfish. This change in society has to lead to a move from the Self to the Common Good!
The Goodies were such a magical distant land for children of my age, so surreal and funny it was hard to believe they actually existed. My son's generation had The Mighty Boosh, we had The Goodies. They were like imaginary friends.
Sunday’s Observer Magazine! It’s 20 years this week since my first book Them was published, and
@evawiseman
asked me to write about how it feels to have been there at the very start of something that would - 20 years later - consume the world.
BTW I'm basically off twitter for lots of reasons but one of them is kidney stones. The only upside is I have to strain my urine through a sieve. I feel like a gold prospector.
Here’s two pages from So You’ve Been Publicly Shamed about Max Mosley. I’m posting because people are wondering why I’m not joining in with the ‘good riddance’ sentiments. The first (missed out) line is: “max felt like he’d been fighting not only for himself but…”
Only an hour in so far, but I can say for pretty certain that
@FernBrady
's audiobook about autism is the best I've listened to on the subject. Strong recommend!
My book was never advocating for people to say whatever they want with no consequences. It's about humans being complicated, and that empathy and patience and curiosity is better than instant judgment.
In a way it’s been three goals - two on the pitch and the third when I convinced my wife that they wear long socks because they’re worried about ticks.
The paper the next day said, 'I was TERRIFIED' said passenger Ronson. 'But not Keith. He just knocked back another Jack Daniels...' Or something. Anyway, it's lucky we didn't die because the headlines would've all been 'Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Liam Neeson and 97 others..."
I'm quite curious about this. Any extroverts out there who are finding self-isolation less horrific than they thought, and can suddenly understand why introverts enjoy this lifestyle? (My guess is not many, as the two personality types see the world so differently.)
RIP Randi. I'd never have written Goats or half the stories in Lost At Sea if if wasn't for the community he created. Sometimes skeptics can pick on the wrong targets, but Randi REALLY helped people escape from bad beliefs and pseudosciences, and God we need that more than ever.
This gives me a horror memory of a time in a Barnes & Noble when I saw my book Them on display. I pointed at the table and told the guy, "I wrote Them. Would you like me to sign any?" He thought I was claiming to have written every book on the table and shook his head fearfully.
Event Horizon. Halfway through someone walked out and as he reached the door he shouted at the auditorium, "If you had any dignity you'd walk out too!"
Tweeted that I was on my way to Washington State, have barely tweeted since, and none of you fuckers have asked me if I’ve gone quiet because I have the Coronavirus. Well I haven’t, no thanks to you.
So many amateur sleuths on this site, convinced they’re discerning people’s secret inner evil on the tiniest slivers of evidence. It’s like a never ending episode of Miss Marple if Miss Marple was shit at it.
RIP Pete Shelley! When I was 19 we occupied our college building on Regent Street in London for some reason I forget and someone told Pete Shelley and he turned up in the middle of his night with his guitar and did an impromptu solo show for us.
I just watched Adam Curtis's new series about Russia, 1985 - 1999. What it felt like to live through the fall of communism and democracy. And how Putin emerged. It's different to Adam's films: no voice, no pasted-on music. Just the most amazing footage and sounds. It's wonderful
I haven't watched

and I don't know anything about Roxanne, so I'm not the BEST person to comment. But if someone falls apart on reality TV there's a good chance they were booked in the hope that would happen. As with Twitter, we love making damaged people our playthings.
One more thing! When you equate something as serious as this to the minor transgressions in my book, you're doing a disservice to people who commit minor transgressions.
You know me: I basically can't stand Twitter (and think Twitter feels the same about me after my book). But I've got a feeling it's going to be more helpful and psychologically good during the next couple of weeks than it's been in years.

The religious sect leader whose members were each donating a kidney to a stranger. When I suggested that one boy had a cooling off period before donating, the leader told me that to punish me he was going to let a potential recipient die and her death would be on my conscience.
The only time I ever blacked out drunk was when Alex from Blur briefly befriended me and I tried to keep up. I passed out in the toilet. The others kept drinking. All I remember is Alex standing over me looking fine and saying “Do you want to come to Stringfellows?” I didn’t go.
"Cancel culture" is something that does not exist but is a very popular concept among people who do terrible things and don't like being held accountable
Finished Ep2 of Tiger King last night: Jesus Christ. Not to label anyone from afar (I mean it) but when I was writing The Psychopath Test I learned that psychopaths often have an unusual love for predatory animals.
'I came to America because I heard the streets were paved with gold. When I got here I found out three things: first, the streets weren’t paved with gold; second, they weren’t paved at all; and third, I was expected to pave them.' Just came across this, from an Italian immigrant
