Anything 5-10 years old that is out of step with the current cultural moment: “well that didn’t age well!” Anything 15+ years old that is out of step with the current cultural moment: “ah, what a relic of a bygone era. They don’t make ‘em like they used to, do they?”

WB decided to be petty against Nolan by scheduling their event movie of the summer against his R-rated three-hour biopic, and as a direct result they have inadvertently given him the biggest non-Batman opening of his career. The man just keeps finding crazy new ways to win.

In an attempt to get Americans to see why Japan finds Barbenheimer offensive, Japanese twitter has taken to making 9/11 jokes - completely misunderstanding that Americans love 9/11 jokes.

Shoutout to GKIDS, an indie distributor that's never had a movie make over $9M, for putting more effort into releasing Boy and the Heron in America than Disney ever bothered with any of their Miyazaki releases and triumphing beyond everyone's wildest expectations.

This awards season has been a weird one for Barbie where seemingly everyone got mad at it or on its behalf, so it's nice that it was able to conclude the season by completely stealing Oscar night with a joyful performance that reminded everyone why it broke the culture last year

There was a Blank Check episode where Griffin pointed out how many animated movies will now open with their main character as a baby/little kid in order to sell extra cute merchandise and now I can’t unsee the trend.

When The Irishman got its pitiful Oscar-mandated theatrical release in 2019 I remember thinking "well, I guess it would be impossible for an R-rated drama over 200 minutes long to make any money in theaters anyhow" and then four years later Apple came along and went "lol bet."

@eventualforever The Ratatouille to TS3 run is so full of insane artistic choices (for $150M+ budgeted family animated films) that all somehow paid off spectacularly and Pixar's response to that was "cool let us just phone it in for several years now and waste that goodwill"

As you can see none of the top openers made it above $100M. Here are the only movies to ever open above $20M the same weekend as a $100M opener. Oppenheimer more than DOUBLED that record!
